This initiative supports research to test the effectiveness of combined strategies to both detect and intervene to reduce the risk of suicide behavior, suicide ideation, and non-suicidal self-harm (NSSI) by youth in contact with the juvenile justice system. Opportunities for detection and prevention start at early points of contact (e.g., police interaction, the intake interview) and continue through many juvenile justice settings (e.g., pre-trial detention, juvenile or family court activities, court disposition, placement and on-going care in either residential or multiple community settings.) This FOA invites intervention strategies that are designed to be delivered in typical service settings using typically available personnel and resources, to enhance the implementation of interventions that prove effective, enhance their future uptake in diverse settings, and thereby reduce risk of suicide and self-harm in this population.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage research applications to develop and pilot test the effectiveness and implementation of family navigator models designed to promote early access, engagement and coordination of mental health treatment and services for children and adolescents who are experiencing early symptoms of mental health problems. For the purposes of this FOA, NIMH defines a family navigator model as a health care professional or paraprofessional whose role is to deploy a set of strategies designed to rapidly engage youth and families in needed treatment and services, work closely with the family and other involved treatment and service providers to optimize care and monitor the trajectory of mental health symptoms and outcomes over time. Applicants are encouraged to develop and pilot test the navigator model's ability to promote early access, engagement and coordination of mental health treatment and services for children and adolescents as soon as symptoms are detected. Of interest are navigator models that coordinate needed care strategies, determine the "personalized match" to the level of needed service amount, frequency and intensity, and harness novel technologies to track and monitor the trajectory of clinical, functional and behavioral progress toward achieving intended services outcomes.

The award, which carries a grant of $4,000, is awarded annually to assist an IRA member in the investigation of reading-related problems and to encourage international professional development activities carried out in countries outside North America. The award represents a specific means for working toward as many as three articulated goals of the association, including advocacy, professional development, and emerging global issues. 1) Advocacy: Through the Constance McCullough Award the association seeks to promote universal access to literacy and to provide leadership in support of adequate funding for literacy programs on an international basis. 2) Professional Development: Through the award the association seeks to enhance and improve professional development of literacy educators on an international basis - professional development that supports programs and processes in response to expressed needs and that responds quickly to identify professional needs. 3) Emerging Global Issues: The association seeks to identify and provide leadership on emerging globally significant literacy issues such as access to primary education for all, access to current materials, and assessment of literacy levels.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to stimulate research on a wide range of topics related to neonatal and pediatric resuscitation. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to: fetal-neonatal transitional cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology, optimizing steps of resuscitation, management of third stage of labor and its effect on the fetus, resuscitation of children with malformations, effect of resuscitation on long-term outcomes and post-resuscitation practices. Applications can include epidemiological studies, studies utilizing fetal-neonatal animal models, computer or other information-technology-based simulations or study designs, clinical observational studies, analyses of pre-existing national or regional datasets, opportunistic studies, prospective randomized controlled trials, or any combinations thereof. The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to repurpose already FDA approved drugs for new neonatal and obstetric indications, in order to overcome the difficulties associated with the traditional development of drugs appropriate for use in neonates and pregnant women and facilitate treatment of these vulnerable populations.

The American Psychological Association is accepting applications for its Elizabeth Munsterberg Koppitz Fellowship program, which is designed to nurture excellent young scholars for careers in areas of psychology, such as child-clinical, pediatric, school, educational and developmental psychopathology. Through the program, one-year grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded to support graduate research projects and scholarships in child psychology. To be eligible, applicants must have completed doctoral candidacy at the time of application (documentation required) and demonstrated research competence and area commitment. In addition, IRB approval must be received from their host institution before funding can be awarded if human participants are involved.

CDC has previously implemented population based case control studies of birth defects known as the National Birth Defects Prevention Study (NBDPS) for births from 1997-2011 and the Birth Defects Study To Evaluate Pregnancy exposureS (BD-STEPS I) which started with births in 2014 and is ongoing. The purpose of BD-STEPS II is to identify causes of birth defects and stillbirths using epidemiologic and genetic research methods and provide information that could be translated into public health prevention messages. The activities under this NOFO will be supported by two separate but related funding components: Component A. BD-STEPS II Core. To support the continuation of the epidemiological and genetic research capability of the Centers for Birth Defects Research and Prevention (CBDRP) through BD-STEPS. The intent of this BD-STEPS II is to carry out BD-STEPS using the same basic study design currently used by grantees with a focus on the key areas of: (1) maternal chronic disease and their treatments; (2) infectious disease in pregnancy; and (3) medications. In BD-STEPS II we will add focus on infectious causes of birth defects, and pilots will be conducted to determine feasibility of medication use validation. Both new sites and current BD-STEPS sites are encouraged to apply for this component. Component B. BD-STEPS stillbirth. To support the continued exploration of modifiable risk factors for stillbirths. The intent of this component is to conduct the BD-STEPS II Core interview and a follow-up interview with mothers affected by stillbirths and mothers of livebirths to conduct a case-control study of stillbirth risk factors. To be funded for Component B, applicants must have a responsive application for Component A and receive Component A funding. Both new sites and current BD-STEPS sites are encouraged to apply for this component.

 The purpose of this FOA is to support investigator-initiated R01 applications that will inform our understanding of the typical and atypical patterns of language and literacy development of dual language learners (DLLs) in the United States. Applicants are encouraged to take advantage of advances in the language sciences and related fields to identify and clarify specific cognitive, linguistic, neurobiological, and sociocultural factors associated with normal and impaired language and literacy acquisition in young DLL populations.     

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Administration for Native Americans (ANA) announces the availability of Fiscal Year 2018 funds for the Native Youth Initiative for Leadership, Empowerment, and Development (I-LEAD).I-LEAD is a special initiative established under ANA’s Social and Economic Development Strategies (SEDS) program. I-LEAD provides support for community-based initiatives that empower Native youth to address priorities identified by such youth and include youth-focused leadership. As well projects are funded to develop models, approaches and strategies to foster resiliency and build upon Native youth's inherent capacities to thrive. Native youth will contribute to the accomplishment of objectives that promote economic and social self-sufficiency for Native Americans, contribute to community well-being, increase the capacity of tribal governments, strengthen families, and implement culturally appropriate strategies to meet the social service needs of Native Americans.As an agency within the ACF, ANA is providing this unique funding opportunity as a special initiative of the SEDS program. The I-LEAD program will ensure project funding is provided to support youth-driven and youth-focused services and activities related to social and economic development, in order to promote the self-sufficiency of tomorrow’s leaders in Native American communities.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), is intended to support novel research on how prenatal alcohol exposure may contribute to the etiology of chronic diseases and health conditions later in life. Central to this theme is the developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD) concept which suggests that fetal adaptations in response to adverse intrauterine conditions may increase the risk for childhood and adulthood disease. The goal of this FOA is to stimulate a broad range of research to: 1) leverage existing prospective birth cohorts to define the role of maternal alcohol consumption in the DOHaD process; 2) investigate the biological, cellular, and molecular mechanisms by which prenatal alcohol exposure may impact disease outcomes later in life; and 3) identify biomarkers associated with gestational alcohol exposure that may predict adult disease susceptibility in exposed offspring. Studies supported by this FOA will provide fundamental insights into a possible fetal-basis to adult disease that is influenced by maternal alcohol use.

In response to The Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act ( https://www.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/2019/text), NIH, through the Common Fund, has established the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program (Kids First). The Kids First program is expected to be a ten-year effort (2015 - 2024) that will build the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Data Resource (Kids First Data Resource). The Kids First Data Resource will be populated by genomic and phenotypic data and will be of high value to the pediatric research community by facilitating data mining across diverse conditions. During the first five years of this Program, data were generated and made publicly available following sequencing of DNA, and some RNA, samples from pediatric cancer and structural birth defects cohorts as outlined on the Kids First Common Fund website at https://commonfund.nih.gov/kidsfirst. In addition to increased understanding of individual pediatric conditions, a goal of establishing the Data Resource is to enable discovery of shared pathways whose disruption may lead to structural birth defects and/or susceptibility to childhood cancer. Therefore, representation of a wide variety of pediatric cancers and structural birth defects within the Data Resource is essential. The overall goal is to help researchers understand the underlying mechanisms of disease, leading to more refined diagnostic capabilities and ultimately more targeted therapies or interventions.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to stimulate research to understand the biological basis by which environmental exposures alter brain and behavioral functioning to increase risk for psychiatric disorders with onset in late-childhood, adolescence or early adulthood. A range of approaches are encouraged, from mechanistic experiments using whole organism models or in vitro and in vivo systems to human studies that add new data collection activities and/or make use of extant data or biospecimens. Investigations that further advance our understanding of the joint contribution of genes and environment in the risk for psychiatric disorders are welcomed. Applications should address either categorically defined psychiatric diagnoses and/or continuous traits expressed in the general population. Applicants are encouraged to propose studies that consider co-occurring psychiatric conditions and potential shared etiologies. The Saucony Run For Good Foundation is committed to improving the lives of children by helping to prevent and reduce childhood obesity. According to the foundation, today's American youth are considered the most inactive in history and as a result the rate of obesity among U.S. children and teenagers has more than tripled over the past three decades. To that end, Saucony is inviting proposals aimed at helping run down the childhood obesity epidemic. Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to community-based nonprofit organizations that initiate and support running programs for kids. Program participants must be 18 years of age or younger, and the foundation will prioritize programs that serve populations not traditionally exposed to running programs.

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity Announcement (NOFO) is to conduct surveillance to assess the incidence and prevalence of diabetes among children, adolescents and young adults in the United States and provide estimates by diabetes type, age, sex, race/ethnicity and geographic area. This NOFO has three (3) components to achieve the purpose of the program * Component A focuses on surveillance of incidence and prevalence of diabetes among children and adolescents (<45 years). * Component C serves as a Coordinating Center to provide an infrastructure for standardized approaches, analytical methods, and surveillance measures. It also serves as a repository for the Component A and B data and provides consolidated estimates by diabetes type, age, race/ethnicity and geographic area.
