This notice solicits applications for the R40 Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Field-Initiated Innovative Research Studies (FIRST) Program. The purpose of the MCH FIRST Program grant is to advance the health and wellbeing of MCH populations by supporting innovative, applied, and translational intervention[1] research studies on critical issues affecting MCH populations. [1] For the purpose of this NOFO, an "intervention" is defined to include behavioral, social, or structural / health systems approaches, as well as combination applied clinico-medical and behavioral, social, or structural / health system approaches that contribute to the prevention of diseases or improvement of health (including clinical) outcomes for mothers, children and families at a population level.

DLS supports fundamental research that increases our understanding of cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural, and biological processes related to children's and adolescents' development and learning.  Research supported by this program will add to our basic knowledge of how people learn and the underlying developmental processes that support learning, with the objective of leading to better educated children and adolescents who grow up to take productive roles as workers and as citizens. Among the many research topics supported by DLS are: developmental cognitive neuroscience; development of higher-order cognitive processes; transfer of knowledge from one domain or situation to another; use of molecular genetics to study continuities and discontinuities in development; development of peer relations and family interactions; multiple influences on development, including the impact of family, school, community, social institutions, and the media; adolescents' preparation for entry into the workforce; cross-cultural research on development and learning; and the role of cultural influences and demographic characteristics on development. Additional priorities include research that: incorporates multidisciplinary, multi-method, microgenetic, and longitudinal approaches; develops new methods, models, and theories for studying learning and development; and integrates different processes (e.g., learning, memory, emotion), levels of analysis (e.g., behavioral, social, neural), and time scales (e.g. infancy, middle childhood, adolescence).

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications from institutions/organizations which propose to characterize or identify factors in early childhood (birth-24 months) that may increase or mitigate risk for obesity and/or excessive weight gain and/or to fill methodological research gaps relevant to the understanding of risk for development of obesity in children. Studies should propose research in children from birth to 24 months, although any proposed follow-up assessments, if applicable, may continue past this period. Studies may also assess factors relevant to families and/or caregivers of children from birth to 24 months. Applications should seek to fill unique research needs and involve expertise across disciplines as appropriate for the proposed research question.

The NIEHS and partnering Institutes and Centers are establishing an infrastructure, the Human Health Exposure Analysis Resource (HHEAR) as a continuation of the Children's Health Exposure Analysis Resource (CHEAR). The goal of this consortium is to provide the research community access to laboratory and statistical analyses to add or expand the inclusion of environmental exposures in their research and to make that data publicly available as a means to improve our knowledge of the comprehensive effects of environmental exposures on human health throughout the life course. This FOA solicits the Data Center. The Data Center will provide intellectual and logistical support for the maintenance, integration, analysis, interpretation, curation, and reuse of data generated by HHEAR in support of extramural research projects. The Data Center will build and manage an exposure data repository and associated data science resources, including a public access Data Portal, a Data Submission and Review Portal, and an ontology and associated standardized data structure. In addition, the Data Center will provide statistical, analytical, and informatic support for HHEAR components and studies using the HHEAR infrastructure. The ultimate goal is maximizing potential use and impact of exposure data in human health studies.

The New York City-based William T. Grant Foundation is accepting applications for its Research Grants on Improving the Use of Research Evidence program. Through the program, the foundation seeks high-quality field-initiated studies that identify, build, and test strategies to ensure that research evidence is used in ways that benefit youth. The foundation welcomes ideas initiated by social scientists across a range of disciplines and diverse methodologies with the potential to advance researchers' own disciplinary work and scholarship and reveal insights about ways to improve the use of research evidence. The foundation is particularly interested in research on improving the use of research evidence by state and local decision makers, mid-level managers, and intermediaries, and in research dedicated to the following lines of inquiry: identifying or testing strategies to improve the use of existing research; identifying or testing strategies for producing more useful research evidence; and testing the assumption that using high-quality research improves decision making and youth outcomes. 

Through this funding opportunity announcement (FOA), the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) solicits grant research applications to study minor cannabinoids and terpenes in the cannabis plant as it relates to pain and nociception. Minor cannabinoids are defined as any and all cannabinoids from the cannabis plant other than Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC). Cannabinoids and terpenes of particular interest include the following: Cannabidiol (CBD), Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabinol (CBN), Cannabichromene (CBC), Myrcene, β-caryophyllene, Limonene, α-terpineol, Linalool, α-phellandrene, α-pinene, β-pinene, γ-terpinene, and α-humulene. This initiative intends to support highly innovative basic and/or mechanistic studies in appropriate model organisms and/or human subjects aiming to identify, describe and determine whether minor cannabinoids and/or terpenes can help treat pain.

The NICHD has a state-of-the art Biological Testing Facility for advancing male and/or female non-hormonal contraception development with the capabilities and capacity for preclinical and Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) or Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling studies (e.g., fertility studies, pharmacology, toxicology, reproductive tract histopathology, sperm morphology). The purpose of this FOA is to provide investigators with a mechanism to request services from this facility that would advance their contraceptive development program.

The purpose of this program, which is consistent with language contained in the Joint Explanatory Statement to the Consolidated Appropriations Act of FY 2017, is to fund a study focused on improving child health through a statewide system of early childhood developmental screenings and interventions. This includes improving population level early childhood developmental health outcomes in a state with significant risk factors for poor child health status such as high rates of poverty among children under age 5, high rates of low birthweight infants, and low rates of early childhood developmental screenings. This goal will be achieved through the implementation of a high quality statewide early childhood developmental health system, an evaluative study on best practices, polices and innovations that can serve as a model for other states with high needs, and the development and utilization of an early childhood cross-systems workforce program.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to stimulate research to understand the biological basis by which environmental exposures alter brain and behavioral functioning to increase risk for psychiatric disorders with onset in late-childhood, adolescence or early adulthood. A range of approaches are encouraged, from mechanistic experiments using whole organism models or in vitro and in vivo systems to human studies that add new data collection activities and/or make use of extant data or biospecimens. Investigations that further advance our understanding of the joint contribution of genes and environment in the risk for psychiatric disorders are welcomed. Applications should address either categorically defined psychiatric diagnoses and/or continuous traits expressed in the general population. Applicants are encouraged to propose studies that consider co-occurring psychiatric conditions and potential shared etiologies. It is anticipated that knowledge gained from the research supported by this FOA will inform the development of improved intervention, prevention and/or therapeutic strategies. This FOA will use the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism and runs in parallel with another FOA, PAR-20-NNN, which encourages applications under the R21 mechanism. The Organization for Autism Research is inviting applications for its Graduate Research Grant program. Established in 2004, the grant program is intended to encourage and support students conducting research pursuant to graduate and post-graduate studies in disciplines related to assessment, intervention, and support of learners with autism spectrum disorders and their families. Grants of up to $2,000 will be awarded for projects related to the analysis, evaluation, or comparison of assessment models, treatment models, or service systems; applied aspects of early and/or school-based education, behavioral, or communication intervention; adult issues such as containing education, employment, housing models and later intervention; and/or issues related to family support, social and community integration, and assessment and intervention with challenging behavior. Priority will be given to studies that will likely produce practical and clearly objective results that may aid parents, families, professionals, and people with autism to make more fully informed choices that will lead to healthier and happier lives. International students are eligible to apply.

NIDA and the following NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs), NIAAA, NICHD, NIMH, NIMHD, NINDS, OBSSR, and NCI intend to publish a Collaborative Research on Addiction at NIH (CRAN) funding opportunity announcement to solicit applications for research project sites in service of a nationwide, multisite, multi-modal, longitudinal cohort study to prospectively examine brain and behavioral development from late childhood (approximately age 9-10) through adolescence into early adulthood. Current primary awardees will be eligible to apply and this new award period will be extended to 7 years in duration.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits an application for a single central Data Analysis, Informatics, and Resource Center (DAIRC). This is one part of a consortium to be renewed in service of a nationwide, multisite, multi-modal, longitudinal cohort study to prospectively examine brain and behavioral development from late childhood (approximately age 9-10) through adolescence into early adulthood. Current primary awardees will be eligible to apply and this new award period will be 7 years in duration.  The structure of the consortium shall consist of three highly integrated components: (1) a set of linked Research Project Sites, (2) a single central Data Analysis, Informatics, and Resource Center, and (3) a single overall Coordinating Center.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites exploratory pilot/feasibility study and small clinical trial (R21) applications from institutions/organizations that propose to test novel home or family based interventions for the prevention or management of overweight in infancy and early childhood. Tested interventions can use behavioral (including dietary and physical activity), environmental, or other relevant approaches.

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) plans to award a cooperative agreement to operate Research Connections. Research Connections is a web-based, interactive database of research documents and public use data sets for conducting secondary analyses on topics related to early care and education. Research Connections houses an increasingly comprehensive collection of research reports, syntheses, and other critical information related to child care and early education, and in particular, children in low-income families; provides researchers access to data from major child care, Head Start, and early education research and evaluation studies; provides technical assistance to researchers and policy makers; provides collaboration and outreach that can strengthen dissemination and use of research by both the research and the policy maker communities, and provides support to the Child Care Policy Research Consortium.

The purpose of this cooperative agreement opportunity is to support the creation and/or maintenance of a transdisciplinary, multisite Research Network that will accelerate the translation of developmental science into MCH practice, promote scientific collaboration, and develop additional research capacity in the fields of adolescent and young adult (ages 10-25) health. A Research Network is a collaboration designed to conduct research across multiple sites, resulting in a greater collective impact. One institution serves as the primary awardee, and oversees and facilitates all Network activities. The Network must include researchers who study adolescence and young adulthood from a range of disciplines, including developmental neuroscience, behavioral and social sciences, and the medical and/or allied health fields, reflecting attention to the health and development of the whole person as well as to health care services for members of these two age groups.

Specifically, the foundation funds studies that enhance the understanding of how youth settings work, how they affect youth development, and how they can be improved; and when, how, and under what conditions research evidence is used in policy and practices that affect youth, and how its use can be improved.

Proposed fellowships must fit the Grant Foundation's research interests. The foundation currently supports research to understand and improve the everyday settings of youth between the ages of 8 and 25 in the United States. For the purposes of this program, a mid-career professional is defined as having eight to twenty years of cumulative experience in his/her current role as a researcher, policy maker, or practitioner.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Investigator-Initiated Small Research Grant (R03) funding opportunity supports small research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources. The R03 activity code supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology.
