Early Career Psychologists Investigating Serious Emotional Disturbance in Children | RF... - 0 views

    The American Psychological Foundation is accepting applications from early-career psychologists conducting research in the area of early intervention for and treatment of serious emotional disturbance in children. Through its John and Polly Sparks Early Career grant program, the foundation will award a single grant of $18,000 to an early-career psychologist in support of scientifically based research and programs that could provide models for broad-based applications across the country. The grant is meant to encourage the researcher to devote his/her career to methods of intervention for and treatment of serious emotional disturbance in children. Although APF does not consider institutional indirect costs or overhead costs, the recipiens may use the grant to cover the direct administrative costs of their proposed project. To be eligible, applicants must be a psychologist with an EdD, PsyD, or PhD from an accredited university and be no more than seven years postdoctoral.

In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

Our programmatic focus is music education for children, defined as follows: Music: We recognize broad and basic needs within conventional instruction, though are particularly interested in projects that foster creative expression (whether in instrumentation, vocalization, composition, or improvisation) and encourage applications associated with diverse or unusual musical styles, genres, forms, and philosophies. Education: Education may include the provision of instruments, texts, office materials, or equipment; the support of learning, practice, and/or performance spaces; and the provision of instructors or instruction. We appreciate the fostering of self-esteem and free expression, but have never funded music therapy separate from education nor music appreciation which does not include participation. Children: We primarily fund programs serving children eighteen years of age or younger, but will consider projects which benefit college students, teachers, instructors, or adult students. We are particularly (though not exclusively) interested in programs which benefit disenfranchised groups, including those with low skill levels, income, or education; with disabilities or terminal illnesses; and in foster homes, shelters, hospitals, prisons, or other remote or isolated situations.

    Society for Research in Child Development Victoria S. Levin Grant The grant serves the promising pre-tenured, junior investigator by: 1. Supporting release time from duties during which time the grantee writes and submits an application in the area of early childhood mental health to the NIH. This support compensates the grantee's unit/department for the work from which the grantee is released. Having adequate time to develop and submit a grant application is essential for early career success. 2. Providing travel funds for a trip to NIH to meet program staff. This support helps the grantee develop meaningful contacts with NIH program staff who can guide the application preparation and revision (funding usually requires two application submissions). 3.Providing a pre-review of the candidate's NIH application. This support allows the mentor and grantee to benefit from an external critique of the NIH application prior to its submission. In our experience, this pre-review heightens the chances of early success in the first round of review and the mentor is able to guide the grantee in responding to reviews. Aiming to heighten the chances of early success in achieving federal funding for developmentally-informed research that addresses the early foundations of children's mental health and well-being, the Victoria S. Levin Grant for Early Career Success in Young Children's Mental Health Research was created to honor and carry forward this focus of Victoria S. Levin's life work.
