The Fusion Energy Sciences (FES) Program of the Office of Science (SC), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), hereby announces its interest in receiving grant applications for collaborative research in fusion energy science as part of the DIII-D national research program. The mission of the DIII-D program is to establish the scientific basis for the optimization of the tokamak approach to fusion energy production. The primary means to accomplish this mission is research utilizing the DIII-D tokamak to develop the ultimate potential of the tokamak concept as a magnetic confinement system.

This FOA seeks applications on research to develop techniques, tools, and methodologies that improve detection and assessment of CO2 stored in the target reservoir. Research products developed under this FOA are expected to include monitoring tools and techniques, as well as validation of models and modeling techniques. Successful technologies developed under this FOA will decrease the operator's financial burden associated with long-term monitoring by providing them the capability to assess the position of the CO2 plume in the target reservoir with greater certainty throughout the life cycle of the project (i.e., active- and post-injection).

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) supports the optimization of potential therapeutic Biotechnology Products and Biologics (e.g., peptides, proteins, oligonucleotides, gene and cell therapies) for disorders identified under the NINDS mission. This track supports the further characterization and optimization of therapeutic lead(s) that showed promise as a potential therapeutic agent as evidenced by convincing animal proof-of-concept studies. Therefore, at the end of this funding period, successful projects will have delivered and optimized therapeutic candidate with demonstrated bioactivity, stability, manufacturability, bioavailability, in vivo efficacy and should be eligible for entry into the CREATE Bio Development track. The CREATE Bio Development track is a later stage program focused on the development of optimized therapeutic candidates through Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling studies and submission of an IND package to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages research grant applications from investigators who propose to study research topics in blood banking and transfusion medicine aimed at improving the safety and availability of the blood supply and the practice of transfusion medicine. Research focused on improving blood donor health, the safety and availability of blood products, and improving the practice of transfusion medicine is critical to public health. Research designed to better understand the determinants of transfusion-associated adverse events and how best to minimize transfusion risks is also important. Research is also needed to maintain an adequate blood supply by minimizing the risks associated with the donation process and developing enhanced recruitment and retention programs.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) supports efforts to disseminate resources and to integrate them into neuroscience research practice. Projects should be highly relevant to specific goals of the BRAIN Initiative, goals that are described in the planning document "BRAIN 2025: A Scientific Vision." They should engage in one or more of the following activities: distribution of tools and reagents; user training on the usage of new technologies or techniques; providing access to existing technology platforms and specialized facilities; minor improvements to increase the scale/efficiency of resource production and delivery; minor adaptations to meet the needs of a user community. Applications strictly focused on technology or software development, rather than dissemination of an existing resource, are not responsive to this FOA. Refinements to microscopes or tools necessary to customize them to the experimental needs of the end users are allowed. Projects should address compelling needs of neuroscience researchers working toward the goals of the BRAIN 2025 report that are otherwise unavailable or impractical in their current form.

1. Lithium-ion Battery Safety. Safety concerns continue to hamper full adoption of lithium-ion batteries for defense systems, despite significant research investments by the government and the private sector. This Defense initiative will advance promising lithium-ion battery safety technologies at university research laboratories into early laboratory prototypes and potentially minimum viable products for adoption by the defense and commercial sectors via early startups, small businesses and non-traditional defense contractors. Specific technical areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: improved electrolytes; stable high-energy anodes and cathodes; cell components and structures that enhance safety and reliability (e.g. use of electrode coatings and electrolyte additives); safety optimization through battery and battery module design and packaging; and battery management and state of health techniques that prevent and/or mitigate catastrophic failure. 2. Electrical Grid Reliability, Resiliency and Security. Both the defense and commercial sectors recognize the ever-growing criticality to enhance electrical grid reliability, resiliency and security through innovation at the component and system levels.

The objective of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support the development of new and innovative multipurpose prevention technologies (MPT) with rheological/biophysical properties and product user perceptions compatible with current long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) strategies (look, feel, effectiveness, safety and duration of action) for the dual purpose of preventing pregnancy and HIV infection in women. MPTs proposed for development must be dual indication and prevent pregnancy and HIV infection and have drug delivery systems (DDS) capable with sustained/extended release of both drugs. MPTs proposed for development must use a licensed contraceptive. This FOA requires an industry partner, milestones linked to Go/No Go decisions and year 5 funding requires submission of a pre-IND application to the FDA.

The purpose of this individual postdoctoral research training fellowship is to enhance the research training of promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive, independent investigators in health services research, with a research interest in areas and priorities relevant to the mission of AHRQ.

This could include, but is not limited to: (a) alternative and clean energy sources; (b) environmental and social issues as related to specific or broader energy and resource management issues; (c) economic, environmental, and social costs/benefits of energy development (alternative and fossil fuel); (d) hazard and risk assessment of different methods of energy production on various endpoints/receptors; (e) development of frameworks for managing energy development; and (f) restoration/reclamation of lands damaged by energy extraction

To that end, grants of up to $5 million will be awarded in support of research on innovative pharmacologic interventions for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, including clinical trials, regulatory studies for novel drugs (small molecules and biologics, including antibodies, peptides, gene therapies), repurposed drugs (existing drugs that are approved for other diseases and conditions), repositioned drugs (existing drugs that have entered clinical trials for other indications and have not yet been approved), and natural products.

Our goal is to connect businesses and organizations that are best-positioned to address critical needs during this public health crisis, often in innovative or unexpected ways. Then we support those businesses to do what they do best: scale products and services that can help the American public. In the immediate term, we are keenly focused on working with companies-large and small-to spur development of personal protective equipment for medical and non-medical use, novel testing solutions, widely-accessible therapeutics and health services to address the needs of underserved communities. Novel products, technology advancements, or other approaches that can demonstrate efficacy to improve the overall cleanliness, health, and safety of commercial environments are of immediate interest.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites exploratory/developmental applications that propose transformative engineering solutions to technical challenges associated with meaningful development, substantial optimization of existing technologies and clinical translation of intraoral biodevices. Proposed technologies are expected to advance development of oral biodevices to clinical use, including but not limited to: precision medicine-based detection, diagnosis and treatment of oral and overall health conditions, and measurement of patient functional status and clinical outcome assessment. Areas of interest in this FOA include engineering approaches that allow integration of electronic, physical, and biological systems essential to the development of functional biodevices that are safe and effective for detection, diagnosis and treatment of oral and systemic disease. Products of this research will be proof-of-concept prototype biodevices, dedicated biosensors and associated core technologies that enable development of safe and effective intra-oral biodevices intended for specific clinical applications. To streamline the development of oral biodevices that advance precision medicine-based approaches in clinical practice, this FOA encourages interdisciplinary collaborations across engineering, multifunctional sensors, pharmacology, chemistry, medicine, and dentistry, as well as between academia and industry.

The NSF ADVANCE program provides grants to enhance the systemic factors that support equity and inclusion and to mitigate the systemic factors that create inequities in the academic profession and workplaces. Systemic (or organizational) inequities may exist in areas such as policy and practice as well as in organizational culture and climate. For example, practices in academic departments that result in the inequitable allocation of service or teaching assignments may impede research productivity, delay advancement, and create a culture of differential treatment and rewards. Similarly, policies and procedures that do not mitigate implicit bias in hiring, tenure, and promotion decisions could lead to women and racial and ethnic minorities being evaluated less favorably, perpetuating historical under-participation in STEM academic careers and contributing to an academic climate that is not inclusive. All NSF ADVANCE proposals are expected to use intersectional approaches in the design of systemic change strategies in recognition that gender, race and ethnicity do not exist in isolation from each other and from other categories of social identity. The solicitation includes four funding tracks: Institutional Transformation (IT), Adaptation, Partnership, and Catalyst, in support of the NSF ADVANCE program goal to broaden the implementation of systemic strategies that promote equity for STEM faculty in academic workplaces and the academic profession.

Our goal is to bend the Keeling Curve. To that end, our team is looking for projects with a proven track record of taking greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere. We've developed five categories, each one addressing a specific sector of climate innovation. We award $25,000 to two projects in each category annually. Capture & Utilization -- Projects in this category are advancing technological and nature-based strategies for capturing and/or utilizing heat-trapping gases from the air or oceans. Energy -- Projects in this category decarbonize energy, support zero-carbon energy innovations, and lead the way in improving the supply, distribution, and access of low or zero-emissions energy systems worldwide. Finance -- Projects in this category are making financial mechanisms and economics work for greenhouse gas reduction and/or reversal ventures. Social & Cultural Pathways -- Projects in this category are changing the way people consider, understand, and act concerning human impacts on planet Earth. They are trying to answer the question: what does it take, socially and culturally, to develop beyond fossil fuels? Transport & Mobility -- Projects that apply in this category are reimagining and reinventing all types of vehicles, fuels, and mobility options for both people and products. These projects will confront the carbon footprint of the vehicles themselves and the routes traveled.

 The methods proposed for validation must be used to identify and quantify chemical constituents (active or marker chemical compounds, adulterants, contaminants, or metabolites thereof) in experimental reagents, raw materials, and/or clinical specimens (for example urine or plasma samples). Methods must have been developed or utilized in fulfillment of the active parent grants specific aims. Candidate constituents for quantitative method validation studies may include (but are not limited to):phytochemicals; nutrients; and potentially deleterious substances such as pesticides and mycotoxins.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) intends to solicit proposals from offerors having the capability to perform the following tasks: (1) cultivate and harvest, process, analyze, store, and distribute cannabis (marijuana) for research, (2) extract cannabis to produce pure and standardized (current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)-grade) cannabis extracts containing varying concentrations of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), (3) isolate cGMP and research grade THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids, (4) periodically analyze cannabis extracts, and isolated cannabinoids for authenticity, purity and stability, (5) develop new methods for growing cannabis plants containing high THC, low CBD; high CBD, low THC; and equal strength of CBD and THC, (6) manufacture, analyze, determine stability, store, and supply marijuana cigarettes, and (7) supply cannabis, cannabis extract, other phyto-cannabinoids, and marijuana cigarettes to research investigators and/or to the NIDA Drug Supply program upon NIDA authorization.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is soliciting innovative research proposals in the area of processes and technology for assembly of systems, components, and materials at millimeter scale or larger from nanometer scale constituents. Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, or systems. Specifically excluded is research that primarily results in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice.

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support the research and development necessary to advance spectroscopic imaging technologies, methods, study designs, and analyses to non-invasively measure the rate and extent to which a topically applied compound becomes available in the epidermis, at or near a site of action within the skin. The expectation is that the funded work will produce an accurate, sensitive and reproducible approach that measures the amount of drug present in the epidermis at each of a series of depths below the skin surface, which can be utilized to monitor epidermal pharmacokinetics by repeated measurements over time.
