The Simons Foundation's Mathematics and Physical Sciences division invites applications for Collaboration Grants for Mathematicians to stimulate collaboration in the field primarily through the funding of travel and related expenditures. The goal of the program is to support the "mathematical marketplace" by substantially increasing collaborative contacts between mathematicians. The foundation will make a large number of collaboration grants to accomplished, active researchers in the United States who do not otherwise have access to funding that supports travel and visitors.

The U.S. Mission to UNESCO (USUNESCO) announces the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for a new program to design and administer a three-year grants program aimed at identifying, developing, and expanding the most promising grassroots-led initiatives in Africa to help address the persistent gender gap in science, technology, engineering, arts/design, and math (STEAM) fields. The targeted African countries for the proposed grants program would be: Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. This program aims to make progress toward eventually achieving gender parity in STEAM-related fields so that more African women and girls are empowered by the socioeconomic benefits derived from acquiring expertise in these fields and so that more women and girls contribute to innovation by creating, rather than just using, technology.

Mark your calendar for the 2015 NIH Regional Seminar on Program Funding and Grants Administration in Baltimore, Maryland - May 6-8, 2015. This two-day seminar, with an optional third day of pre-seminar workshops, is ideal for anyone in the extramural research community who is new to working with NIH grants, including administrators, new and early stage investigators, and grant writers. The Shared Instrument Grant (SIG) program encourages applications from groups of NIH-supported investigators to purchase or upgrade a single item of expensive, specialized, commercially available instruments or integrated systems that cost at least $50,000. The maximum award is $600,000. Types of instruments supported include, but are not limited to: X-ray diffraction systems, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometers, DNA and protein sequencers, biosensors, electron and confocal microscopes, cell-sorters, and biomedical imagers.

The HMIT Grants Program is open to a nonprofit organization that demonstrates (1) expertise in conducting a training program for hazmat employees; and (2) the ability to reach and involve in a training program a target population of hazmat employees. A nonprofit organization means any corporation, trust, association, cooperative, or other organization that: (a) Is operated primarily for scientific, educational, service, charitable, or similar purposes in the public interest; (b) Is not organized primarily for profit; and (c) Uses net proceeds to maintain, improve, or expand the operations of the organization. (see 2 CFR Section 200.70.)

Students enrolled in any PhD program are eligible to apply, as are those who earned a PhD in 2016 or 2017. Given candidates with comparative skills and preparation, preference will be given to European-based scholars. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages grant applications from institutions or organizations that propose multidisciplinary, investigator-initiated basic translational and clinical research in developmental pharmacodynamics This FOA seek grant applications that propose studies to increase and establish data on developmental pharmacodynamics in the pediatric age groups and allows the determination of pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic relationship of drugs used in this population.

To that end, the two organizations have issued a Request for Applications for projects that test feasibility and generate preliminary data. MRA and ACS have each committed $1 million for the awards. The combined $2 million will be used to fund Multidisciplinary Team Awards and Pilot Awards. 1) Multidisciplinary Team Awards: At least one grant of up to $1 million will be awarded in this category are designed to foster interdisciplinary collaborative research to promote transformational advances with the potential for rapid clinical benefit. Letters of Intent must be received no later than August. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit full applications by October 31, 2017. 2) Pilot Awards: Up to five grants of up to $200,000 each will be awarded over two years to help seed the ground in this relatively young area of checkpoint irAE research. Under this announcement, the Institute of Education Sciences (Institute) intends to award one grant under this program to fund the Lead of a CTE Network, which is to carry out the requirements under section 114(d)(4) of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act to establish a national research center to carry out scientifically based research on career and technical education programs.

ACS PRF research grant programs support fundamental research in the petroleum field, and development of the next generation of engineers and scientists through advanced scientific education. Research areas supported include chemistry, the earth sciences, chemical and petroleum engineering, and related fields such as polymers and materials science. Membership in the American Chemical Society is not a requirement or a factor in awarding ACS PRF grants.

To that end, the fund is inviting applications for its Doctoral New Investigator grants program. Though the program, grants of up to $110,000 over two years will be awarded in support of original research conducted in accordance with the PRF Transfer Agreement, which stipulates that the recipient (ACS) shall use all funds exclusively for advanced scientific education and fundamental research in the "petroleum field," including any field of pure science which in the judgment of the recipient (ACS) may afford a basis for subsequent research directly connected with the petroleum field.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) released its annual omnibus Research Announcement (NRA), Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) - 2020 (OMB Approval Number 2700-0092, CFDA Number 43.001) on February 14, 2020. In this case "omnibus" means that this NRA has many individual program elements, each with its own due dates and topics. All together these cover the wide range of basic and applied supporting research and technology in space and Earth sciences supported by SMD. Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, depending on the nature of the work proposed, the proposing organization, and/or program requirements. However, most extramural research awards deriving from ROSES will be grants, and many program elements of ROSES specifically exclude contracts, because contracts would not be appropriate for the nature of the work solicited. The typical period of performance for an award is three years, but some programs may allow up to five years and others specify shorter periods. In most cases, organizations of every type, Government and private, for profit and not-for-profit, domestic and foreign (with some caveats), may submit proposals without restriction on teaming arrangements. The total amount of funding available for scholarship, fellowship, faculty development, and trade school and community college awards will depend on the agency's final FY 2018 appropriation of funds. The number of awards for FY 2018 depends on the number, quality, duration and costs of the applications received. Awards and award amounts pursuant to this funding opportunity and future years are contingent upon the availability of appropriated funds.

The Fusion Energy Sciences (FES) program of the Office of Science (SC) and the Defense Program (DP) of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), both of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), jointly announce their interests in receiving grant applications for new awards and grant renewals for research in the SC-NNSA Joint Program in High-Energy-Density (HED) laboratory plasmas. Through this EPA program, college students can benefit people, promote prosperity and protect the planet by designing environmental solutions that move us towards a sustainable future. EPA considers projects that address challenges from a wide range of categories including water, energy, agriculture, built environment, and materials and chemicals. These can be challenges found in the developed or developing world. The P3 Award competition is a two-phase team contest. For the first phase, interdisciplinary student teams compete for $15,000 grants. Recipients use the money to research and develop their design projects during the academic year. The final projects include a Phase I project report and a Phase II proposal. In the spring, all teams submit their reports and proposals. Scores from the reports, proposals and the design presentations are combined into a final overall score for each P3 team. Based on these scores, a panel of expert judges recommend to EPA which teams should receive the EPA P3 Award and the opportunity for Phase II funding. Given to the best student designs, this is an award and opportunity for grant funding up to $75,000 to further the project design, implement it in the field, and move it to the marketplace.

Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) embodies an important forward-looking response by the Foundation to these profound challenges. NNA seeks innovations in fundamental convergence research across the social, natural, environmental, computing and information sciences, and engineering that address the interactions or connections among natural and built environments and social systems, and how these connections inform our understanding of Arctic change and its local and global effects. This solicitation requests proposals that fall within one of three tracks: NNA Planning Grants, dedicated to developing convergence research questions and teams to tackle projects of larger scope in the future; NNA Research Grants, aimed to support creative projects on fundamental research that address convergent scientific and engineering challenges related to the rapidly changing Arctic; and NNA Collaboratory Grants, designed to support collaborative teams undertaking research and training initiatives on critical themes of a broad scope related to the New Arctic.
