SPIE is an international society that works to advance an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light. As part of its educational outreach mission, SPIE awards grants in support of optics- and photonics-related educational outreach activities. The society offers two kinds of grants: SPIE Education Outreach grants and Sustaining grants. 1) SPIE Education Outreach grants: Recipients of these grants are required to submit an annual outreach grant report to the society on how the grant was used within ninety days of completing the funded activity. grant applications should include activities that have not been funded by a previous award. 2) Sustaining grants: If a program has received an Education Outreach grant twice in a period of five years, it can only apply for further support, up to a maximum of $2,000, through a Sustaining grant. There is no limit to the number of times a program can apply for a Sustaining grant, but it will be competing with all other proposals every time it applies. To eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization or education institution (e.g., university, optics center, science center, primary or secondary school, youth club, industry association, or international optical societies).

The Science of Science & Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program supports research designed to advance the scientific basis of science and innovation policy. Research funded by the program thus develops, improves and expands models, analytical tools, data and metrics that can be applied in the science policy decision making process. For example, research proposals may develop behavioral and analytical conceptualizations, frameworks or models that have applications across a broad array of SciSIP challenges, including the relationship between broader participation and innovation or creativity. Proposals may also develop methodologies to analyze science and technology data, and to convey the information to a variety of audiences. Researchers are also encouraged to create or improve science and engineering data, metrics and indicators reflecting current discovery, particularly proposals that demonstrate the viability of collecting and analyzing data on knowledge generation and innovation in organizations. Among the many research topics supported are:examinations of the ways in which the contexts, structures and processes of science and engineering research are affected by policy decision, the evaluation of the tangible and intangible returns from investments in science and from investments in research and development, the study of structures and processes that facilitate the development of usable knowledge, theories of creative processes and their transformation into social and economic outcomes, the collection, analysis and visualization of new data describing the scientific and engineering enterprise. The SciSIP program invites the participation of researchers from all of the social, behavioral and economic sciences as well as those working in domain-specific applications such as chemistry, biology, physics, or nanotechnology. Research Grants: Research Grants are available to established scientists of all ages working at accredited institutions in the United States. Applications will be judged on the scientific merit and the innovative aspects of the proposal as well as on the competence of the applicant. Grants-in-Aid: The Grants-in-Aid program is designed for researchers at the assistant professor level who experience difficulty in competing for research funds because they have not yet become firmly established. Grants-in-Aid can also be made to senior scientists. All applications will be judged on the scientific merit and innovative aspects of the proposal, as well as on past performance and evidence of the applicant's continued productivity. Grants-in-Aid are awarded for a one-year period and do not exceed $30,000.

EPA's Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics, Chemistry, Economic and Sustainable Strategies Division oversees the Pollution Prevention (P2) Grant Program to support State and Tribal P2 Programs administer P2 projects that will help businesses identify better environmental strategies and solutions for reducing or eliminating waste at the source. EPA anticipates it will award approximately $7.94 million in federal P2 Grant funding ($3.97 million in FY 2016 and $3.97 million in FY 2017) to support two-year Grant agreements. Grants will be awarded and managed by EPA's ten Regional P2 Program Offices. P2 Grants are dependent on Congressional appropriation and the quality of proposals received.

Applicants for the funds may be students or faculty. The project, program, or entrepreneurial idea must be created by, led by or benefit women. Grants are awarded in values of $2500 to $20,000. While we prefer the base Grant to be $5,000, we are considering a limited number of $2500 which will be required to show high impact. These applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Grants must be submitted online via the link below and must include a 2-minute video. Applicants will be narrowed to a pool of 10-15 finalists by our M.I.A.M.I. WOMEN Grants Committee. This committee will review applications; contact applicants if additional information is required, and present the finalists to the M.I.A.M.I. WOMEN Steering Committee and Development Staff. Grant deadline for this year is Feb. 9, 2018. These finalists will perform in a fast-pitch style Hawk Tank event on April 11, 2018. Finalists will be offered fast-pitch training courtesy of the Farmers School of Business - school of Entrepreneurship, and will receive coaching and support. They will then pitch their idea in 5 minutes or less on April 11, 2018 at the event. Giving Circle members are the voters who will determine winners. Absentee voters will be given the option to vote online. Winners will be announced that night or the next day at the Symposium, to be determined.

Sigma Xi, a society of research scientists and engineers that rewards excellence in research and cooperation among scientists in all fields, has been providing undergraduate and graduate students with valuable educational experiences and financial support for more than eighty years. By encouraging close working relationships between students and faculty, the society promotes scientific achievement through hands-on learning. Through the Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research program, the society awards Grants of up to $1,000 to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering. Designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for Grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision-related research. Funding can support travel expenses or nonstandard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project. While membership in Sigma Xi is not a requirement for applying for funding, approximately 75 percent of Grants-in-Aid of Research funds are restricted for use by dues-paying student members or students whose project advisor is a dues-paying member. The American Association for Cancer Research is accepting applications for its AACR NextGen Grants for Transformative Cancer Research program. The annual program is designed to stimulate highly innovative research from young investigators. Three-year Grants of up to $450,000 will be awarded in support of creative, paradigm-shifting cancer research that might not be funded through conventional channels. The funds are intended to support expenses related to the research project, which may include salary and benefits of the Grant recipient, postdoctoral or clinical research fellows, graduate students (including tuition costs), and research assistants; research/laboratory supplies and equipment; travel applicable to the research project; publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project; and other research expenses and indirect costs. Research projects must represent a highly innovative approach to a major contemporary challenge in cancer research. The research, which can be in any area of basic, translational or clinical science, must have the potential to lead to groundbreaking discoveries in the field and transform our understanding of the tumorigenesis process and/or ability to treat, detect, or prevent cancer. To be eligible, applicants must have a doctoral degree in a related field and not currently be a candidate for a further doctoral degree. In addition, at the start of the Grant term on July 1, 2018, applicants must hold a tenure-eligible appointment at the level of assistant professor; have held this appointment for no more than three years; and work at an academic, medical, or research institution anywhere in the world. AACR membership is required.

CRDF Global, on behalf of the U. S. Department of State's Chemical Security Engagement Program (CSP) is pleased to offer grants to improve the physical and procedural security of chemical laboratories and facilities. These Chemical Security Improvement grants (CSIG) contribute to the safety and security of industrial and academic chemical facilities, including their employees and their communities, and aim to prevent the accidental or intentional misuse of chemicals. CSIGs are one-time awards ranging from $2,000 to $30,000 in value with applications reviewed on a quarterly basis.

The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is pleased to offer a limited number of conference grants. These grants will be used to subsidize the cost of attendance for individuals to attend either CUR Dialogues 2015: Climbing the Ladder to Funding Success: Diverse Sources, Diverse Pathways or Undergraduate Research Programs: Building, Enhancing, Sustaining. Nominees are asked to provide contact and demographic information, a statement of expenses, a statement describing financial need, and a statement on expected outcomes from attending the conference. Historically under-represented groups and first-time attendees will be given priority. The review committee will work to ensure awardees represent a diverse subset of the applicants, specifically across discipline/CUR Division and geographic location. Awardees will receive the conference grant as a rebate after their confirmed participation in the conference, and the submission of reimbursement paperwork.

The focus of this grant is to assist the Roundtable's green chemistry initiative to develop strategies to enhance the greenness of peptide, oligonucleotide and antibody drug conjugate synthesis. One grant is planned to be awarded and the total award is limited to $50,000 for a grant period of 12 months with a possible renewal option available for a second year.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites applications for P50 Research Center Grants for Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPOREs). The program will fund P50 SPORE Grants to support state-of-the-art investigator-initiated translational research that will contribute to improved prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of an organ-specific cancer or a related group of cancers. For the purpose of this FOA, cancers derived from the same organ system (i.e., a group of organs that perform a common function) are considered related. Examples of such organ systems include gastrointestinal, endocrine and other biological systems. Other programmatically appropriate groups of cancers may include those centered around a common biological mechanism critical for promoting tumorigenesis and/or cancer progression in organ sites that belong to different organ systems. For example, a SPORE may focus on cancers caused by the same infectious agent or cancers sustained and promoted by dysregulation of a common signaling pathway. In addition, a SPORE may focus on cross-cutting themes such as pediatric cancers or cancer health disparities. The research supported through this program must be translational and must stem from research on human biology using cellular, molecular, structural, biochemical, and/or genetic experimental approaches. SPORE projects must have the goal of reaching a translational human endpoint within the project period of the Grant.

If your application is successful, you will be invited to submit a full proposal and join a deep-dive workshop with the other finalists in 2020.   Submissions are accepted from scientists in all countries all over the world. 

This Notice supersedes NOT-OD-15-024 about the NIH and AHRQ requirement for use of a new biosketch format and provides some latitude in the transition for those who have already been compiling biosketches for their large grant applications with deadlines in early in 2015. NIH and AHRQ encourages applicants to use the newly published biosketch format for all grant and cooperative agreement applications submitted for due dates on or after January 25, 2015, and will require use of the new format for applications submitted for due dates on or after May 25, 2015. Applicants may submit using the new biosketch format for due dates before January 25, 2015, if they wish.

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) announces the availability of funds for Administrative Supplements to NIGMS-funded R01, R37, P01, and U01 grants.  These funds are intended for the purchase of single pieces of equipment whose requested direct costs are between $50,000 and $250,000. Equipment in this price range is often difficult to purchase under the parent grant.  Two or more NIGMS grantees at the same institution with similar equipment needs are encouraged to submit separate requests (each between $50,000 and $250,000) that cross-reference each other.  It is expected that the amount of funds requested for such joint purchases will reflect the actual proportion of the time that the shared equipment would be used by each PI.  NIGMS encourages requests that reflect institutional commitment.

The purpose of this Notice is to inform new NIH applicants, their mentors, and grant administrators at their institution about two upcoming webinars the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR) is hosting in November 2015.  These webinars are designed to give participants useful insights into our application submission and peer review processes.  CSR is the portal for NIH grant applications and their review for scientific and technical merit.

The PCC has supported world-class research since 2008, spending more than $18.0 M to support novel science around the world. Research and grant-making are the foundation of the PCC and are the focus of everyday business activity. PCC-supported research contributes to a movement in addressing doping's root causes and ultimately decreasing the use of performance-enhancing drugs by all participants in all sports at all levels of play. grant Cycle Deadlines: Pre-Applications are due March 1st, July 1st, and November 1st of each year. Applicants invited to submit full applications must do so by April 1st, August 1st, or December 1st, depending on the cycle (30 days after the pre-application due date). With an emphasis on original work that focuses on improving existing analytical methods for detecting particular drugs, developing new analytical methods to test for substances not currently detectable, and discovering cost-effective approaches for testing widely abused substances across all levels of sport, the following areas of investigation reflect the PCC's current research priorities: Developing methods of cost-effective testing to detect and deter the use of banned and illegal substances. Developing testing protocols to detect designer substances used for doping purposes. Improving existing analytical methods to detect particular drugs, ex. GH, IGF-1, EPO, hCG. Developing analytical methods to detect performance enhancing drugs not currently detectable. Longitudinal urinary excretion patterns, metabolism and dose-concentration. Critical reviews to support interpretation of laboratory data. Alternative specimens, (ex. oral fluid, dried blood/plasma spots) for testing. There is no maximum amount for PCC funding, though the average funding amount is $225,000. To date, over 80 projects have been funded in over 14 countries world-wide. Approximately 33% of applicants are awarded PCC funding.

The New York City-based Camille & Henry Dreyfus Foundation is accepting nominations from academic institutions for its Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program. The annual program supports research and the teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides a $75,000 grant to faculty at an early stage in their career. Criteria for selection include an independent body of scholarship attained in the early years of their appointment and a demonstrated commitment to education signaling the promise of continuing outstanding contributions to both research and teaching. The program is open to academic institutions in the United States and its territories that grant a bachelor's or higher degree in the chemical sciences, including biochemistry, materials chemistry, and chemical engineering. Nominees must hold a full-time tenure-track academic appointment and are expected to have been appointed no earlier than mid-year 2012. Awardees must be from PhD-granting departments in which scholarly research.
