In 2020, we are offering a series of research grants to stimulate innovative research in challenging areas of future importance. Grants of 100,000 EUR - 500,000 EUR per year for up to 3 years are availabe in the areas of  - Drug discovery  - Bioreactor design for cultured meat - Next generation machine learning - Pandemic preparedness / fighting new emerging viral infectious disease The research grants program is open to scientists in all career stages who are affiliated with any research-based institution, university or company. Applicants submit their application for the focus topics containing non-confidential information only. You may apply for more than one focus topic. If your application is successful, you will be invited to submit a full proposal and join a deep-dive workshop with the other finalists in 2020.   Submissions are accepted from scientists in all countries all over the world. 

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites exploratory/developmental applications that propose transformative engineering solutions to technical challenges associated with meaningful development, substantial optimization of existing technologies and clinical translation of intraoral biodevices. Proposed technologies are expected to advance development of oral biodevices to clinical use, including but not limited to: precision medicine-based detection, diagnosis and treatment of oral and overall health conditions, and measurement of patient functional status and clinical outcome assessment. Areas of interest in this FOA include engineering approaches that allow integration of electronic, physical, and biological systems essential to the development of functional biodevices that are safe and effective for detection, diagnosis and treatment of oral and systemic disease. Products of this research will be proof-of-concept prototype biodevices, dedicated biosensors and associated core technologies that enable development of safe and effective intra-oral biodevices intended for specific clinical applications. To streamline the development of oral biodevices that advance precision medicine-based approaches in clinical practice, this FOA encourages interdisciplinary collaborations across engineering, multifunctional sensors, pharmacology, chemistry, medicine, and dentistry, as well as between academia and industry.

The Children's Heart Foundation's 2020 Call for Research Proposals is now open! The Children's Heart Foundation funds life-saving, life-changing congenital heart defect (CHD) research in clinical cardiology, translational research, population science, and advancement, prevention, detection of surgical and interventional techniques including, but not limited to the following areas:  Genetics Biochemistry Pharmacology Devices and procedural research (cardiac catheterization and surgery) Neurodevelopmental and functional outcomes Quality and policy regarding delivery of care, coverage, and access Maternal environment and modifiable disease impact on fetuses with CHD Fetal diagnosis and intervention Long-term care of adults with CHDs Technological development and advancements

This NOFO will build on previous PEPFAR support under the HHS/CDC HIV treatment program in Côte d'Ivoire (CI) to ensure continuity of comprehensive HIV/AIDS services to an existing pool of clients receiving HIV/AIDS care, support, and/or treatment. The program will also continue expanding access to HIV/AIDS services while building the capacity of national structures and contributing to sustainable service delivery within the health sector in CI. Specifically, it serves to increase capacity and sustainability of the response toward controlling the HIV/AIDS epidemic by initially providing support for HIV service delivery aligning with PEPFAR geographic and programmatic pivots by local indigenous organizations and ultimately providing technical assistance to the national Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene (MSHP) to sustain and expand comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and antiretroviral therapy (ART) programs. The recipient(s) will combine a facility and community-based strategy to support HIV/AIDS services. At the end of the 5-year project period, the recipient(s) should be able to collect and evaluate program data that demonstrates improved quality of HIV prevention, care, and treatment services in CI and to transition activities to MSHP and/or local organizations to sustain a basic HIV service package.

Chemical modifications of proteins, DNA and RNA nucleoside moieties play critical roles in regulating gene expression. Emerging evidence suggests these RNA modifications (epitranscriptomics) have substantive roles in basic biological processes. Recent studies in yeast, Drosophila and rodent models demonstrate stressors can induce RNA modifications, with specific epitranscriptomic reprogramming of some regulatory RNAs. The purpose of the eFRAMED FOA is to solicit and support R21 applications that propose conducting innovative, high risk, high reward research to enhance our understanding of how environmental exposures impact this layer of cellular regulation.
