Chronic Brain Injury is accepting seed grant proposals from cross-college teams of faculty studying topics related to traumatic brain injury, concussion and dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. Five awards of $25,000 are available, and all Ohio State faculty are eligible.
The NIH Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub (REACH) program is envisioned as a partnership program between NIH and the qualifying research institutions to accelerate the creation of small businesses and the transition of discoveries originating from academic research into products that improve health. REACH Hubs will foster the advancement of therapeutics, preventatives, diagnostics, devices, and tools in a manner consistent with business case development, that address the needs of patients and public health.
This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) seeks to develop and nurture a national innovation ecosystem that builds upon biomedical research to develop technologies, products and services that benefit society. Toward meeting this objective, the I- Corps™ program is being offered. The I-Corps™ at NIH program is focused on educating researchers and technologists on how to translate technologies from the lab into the marketplace. Under this FOA, participating NIH and CDC Institutes and Centers will provide administrative supplement awards to two cohorts of currently-funded SBIR and STTR Phase I grantees to support entrepreneurial training under the I-Corps™ at NIH Program. The program is designed to provide three-member project teams with access to instruction and mentoring in order to accelerate the translation of technologies currently being developed with NIH and CDC SBIR and STTR funding. It is anticipated that outcomes for the I-Corps™ teams participating in this program will include significantly refined commercialization plans and well-informed pivots in their overall commercialization strategies. The purpose of the NIH Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) is to provide support and protected time (three to five years) for an intensive, supervised career development experience in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences leading to research independence. Although all of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) use this support mechanism to support career development experiences that lead to research independence, some ICs use the K01 award for individuals who propose to train in a new field or for individuals who have had a hiatus in their research career because of illness or pressing family circumstances. Other ICs offer separate K01 FOAs intended to increase research workforce diversity.
The SBIR program, as established by law, is intended to meet the following goals: stimulate technological innovation in the private sector; strengthen the role of small business in meeting Federal research or research and development (R/R&D) needs; increase the commercial application of Federally-supported research results; foster and encourage participation by socially and economically disadvantaged small business concerns and women-owned business concerns in the SBIR program; and improve the return on investment from Federally-funded research for economic and social benefits to the Nation.
The McGovern Institute for Brain Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was established in 2000 by Patrick J. McGovern and Lore Harp McGovern, with the goal of improving human welfare, communication, and understanding through their support for neuroscience research.
The institute has announced a call for nominations for its twelfth annual Edward M. Scolnick Prize in Neuroscience.
Now in its fifteenth year, the Scolnick Prize is designed to recognize outstanding advances in the field of neuroscience. The prize, which is endowed through a gift from Merck to the McGovern Institute, consists of a $150,000 award, plus an inscribed gift. In addition, the recipient will present a public lecture at the McGovern Institute in spring 2018. A gala dinner for the recipient and invited guests follows the prize lecture.
Candidates for the award must be nominated by individuals affiliated with universities, hospitals, medicals schools, or research institutes, with a background in neuroscience. Self-nomination is not permitted.
The primary purpose of the NIH Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Awards (K08) program is to prepare qualified individuals for careers that have a significant impact on the health-related research needs of the Nation. This program represents the continuation of a long-standing NIH program that provides support and "protected time" to individuals with a clinical doctoral degree for an intensive, supervised research career development experience in the fields of biomedical and behavioral research, including translational research.
