    REISSUE of PAR-18-733 The NIH Common Fund has established the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program (Kids First) to develop a pediatric research data resource populated by genome sequence and phenotype data that will be of high value for the communities of investigators who study the genetics of childhood cancers and/or structural birth defects. The overall goal of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Data Resource is to help researchers understand the underlying mechanisms of these conditions, leading to more refined diagnostic capabilities and ultimately more targeted therapies, as well as to develop an integrated pediatric research data resource by obtaining and aggregating genome sequence and phenotype data for as many relevant structural birth defects and pediatric cancer cohorts as possible and to advance research in this area through the broad sharing of these data with the research community. This FOA is intended to promote meritorious small research projects focused on the development and analyses of childhood cancer and/or structural birth defects datasets that are part of the Kids First Data Resource or could be included in the Kids First Data Resource. Development of statistical methodology appropriate for analyzing genome-wide data relevant to childhood cancer and/or structural birth defects may also be proposed.

    The FY20 LCRP Investigator-Initiated Translational Research Award mechanism supports translational research that will develop promising ideas in lung cancer into clinical applications. Translational research may be defined as an integration of basic science and clinical observations. Observations that drive a research idea may originate from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, or a clinician's firsthand knowledge of patient care.     The Era of Hope Scholar Award supports individuals early in their careers who have demonstrated significant potential to effect meaningful change in breast cancer. These individuals should be exceptionally talented scientists who have shown that they are the "best and brightest" in their field(s) through extraordinary creativity, vision, leadership, innovation, and productivity. They should have demonstrated experience in forming effective partnerships and collaborations and should exhibit strong potential for future leadership in the breast cancer research community. As the intent of the Era of Hope Scholar Award is to recognize creative and innovative individuals rather than projects, the central features of the award are the applicant's demonstrated ability to go beyond conventional thinking in their field and the innovative contribution that the Principal Investigator (PI) can make toward ending breast cancer. The PI should articulate a vision that challenges current dogma and demonstrates an ability to look beyond tradition and convention. Experience in breast cancer research is not required; however, the application must focus on breast cancer, and the PI must maintain a 50% dedication of his/her full-time professional effort during the award period to breast cancer research. This professional effort in breast cancer research can be through a combination of this award and other current support. Individuals from other disciplines who will apply novel concepts to breast cancer are encouraged to submit. The PI is expected to assemble a research team that will provide the necessary expertise and collaborative efforts toward accomplishing the research goals. The PI's research team must include two or more breast cancer consumer advocates. As lay representatives, the consumer advocates must be individuals who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are actively involved in a breast cancer advocacy organization.

Melanoma Research Foundation Accepting Applications for Research Awards | RFPs | PND - 0 views

    The Melanoma Research Foundation was originally founded in 1996 by Diana Ashby, who through the course of her own melanoma cancer treatment became disheartened at the lack of effective medical treatment options. Driven by her empathy for fellow sufferers and determined to change the trajectory of those impacted by the disease, the Melanoma Research Foundation was born. Though Diana tragically died within a year of its founding, the foundation continues to honor her memory by championing research and disseminating education around the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease. In 2019, a number of research awards will be offered:   CURE Ocular Melanoma Team Award (CURE OM Team) - Grants of up to $250,000 over two years will awarded in support of research on ocular melanoma. Teams should consist of a principle investigator and at least one co-PI (ideally from different institutions). Teams consisting of both basic scientists and clinicians are encouraged, as is the inclusion of a junior scientist.

    The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement is to invite U54 cooperative agreement applications for Cooperative Centers of Excellence in Hematology (CCEH). The NIDDK Hematology Centers Program is designed to increase access to critical research resources and collaboration in the national multidisciplinary research effort to combat nonmalignant hematologic diseases and to study normal hematopoiesis. In addition, it aims to improve cost-effectiveness of preparing critical reagents, maintaining state-of-the-art resources, and running multi-step molecular biologic assays. Each CCEH will support a minimum of three Biomedical Research Cores, an Administrative Core, and an Enrichment Program. The CCEH are expected to work collaboratively with the NIDDK Hematology Central Coordinating Center -- together comprising the NIDDK Hematology Centers Program. By providing state-of-the-art equipment, resources, and expertise to the greater nonmalignant hematology research community, the program will serve as a national hub for nonmalignant hematology research, supporting career development of scientists just beginning their careers in the field and attracting established investigators from other domains. The impact may be near-term or long-term, but must move beyond a minor advancement and have the potential to lead to a new approach that is fundamentally better than interventions already approved or in clinical development.
