Through this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites R01 applications for research projects designed to solve specific problems and paradoxes in multiple myeloma (MM) and disparities research identified as the NCI Multiple Myeloma Disparities Provocative Questions (MMD PQs). These problems and paradoxes phrased as questions are not intended to represent the full range of NCI's priorities in multiple myeloma research. Rather, they are meant to challenge cancer researchers to think about and elucidate specific problems in key areas of multiple myeloma and disparities research that are deemed important but have not received sufficient attention. The FOA includes six Multiple Myeloma PQs that represent diverse fields relevant to multiple myeloma disparities research, but all are framed to inspire interested scientists to conceive new approaches and/or feasible solutions. Each research project (application) proposed in response to this FOA must be focused on addressing one particular research problem defined by one specific MMD PQ selected from the list. Projects proposed to address specific MMD PQs may use strategies that incorporate ideas and approaches from multiple disciplines, as appropriate. Transdisciplinary projects are encouraged as long as they serve the scientific focus of the specific PQ chosen.

The research that we fund is vital to our mission of understanding the role of diet, nutrition, body composition and physical activity in reducing cancer risk and improving outcomes for cancer patients and survivors. Our Research Grant Program builds on and is informed by the scientific findings from our Continuous Update Project and Third Expert Report.

The Mark Foundation Endeavor Awards support collaborative research projects that bring together investigators with diverse areas of expertise to tackle challenges in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. These grants are awarded to teams of three or more investigators to generate and integrate data from diverse lines of research and transform those insights into advances for cancer patients that could not be achieved by individual efforts.

The American Cancer Society and Pfizer Global Medical Grants are collaborating to offer a new competitive grant opportunity focused on addressing systemic race-related barriers that contribute to disparities in outcomes among Black men and women with cancer.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is accepting Letters of Intent from researchers for projects to identify and develop safer, more effective treatments for patients with blood cancers. Through the Quest for Cures initiative, LLS, in partnership with biopharmaceutical company Celgene, will award two-year grants of between $200,000 and $400,000 a year for research projects that have a measurable impact over the next five to ten years on the diagnosis or treatment of patients with hematologic malignancies. Additional funding may be available for projects that have demonstrated exceptional progress in the initial two years. Specifically, the initiative will award grants in the following priority areas: Tumor cell clonal heterogeneity: This grant will support researchers seeking novel approaches for measuring and monitoring clonal heterogeneity and assessing its contribution to the response or resistance to therapy. New molecular stratification mechanisms: Recipients of this grant will work to identify key subsets of patients with B-cell malignancies to help predict which patients will have poor outcomes from current standard therapies so they may be directed to alternative therapies. Bone marrow and lymph node microenvironments: Researchers will seek to enhance the understanding of the role that the bone marrow and lymph node microenvironments play in either responding to or resisting therapy.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation introduces a new funding opportunity for researchers whose projects are in jeopardy due to the decreased funding available from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). ALSF's Bridge Grants are intended to keep scientist's projects on track while they reapply for NIH funding to ensure novel childhood cancer research projects are not compromised. ALSF's Bridge Grant awards will provide $100,000 for 12 months to be used for supplies, personnel or the Principal Investigator's salary.

BCAN's Young Investigator Awards seek to fund those researchers who may be working in basic, translational, clinical, epidemiologic, bioengineering or any other scientific or research field, but are also working in a research environment capable of supporting transformational bladder cancer research.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages basic research into the role of RNA chemical modifications and their corresponding writers, readers and erasers in the initiation and progression of cancer. Chemical modifications of RNA bases have been reported to regulate the fate and function of both coding and noncoding RNAs and are emerging as a critical element of post-transcriptional gene regulation. This FOA will utilize the Exploratory/Developmental (R21) mechanism which supports investigation of novel scientific ideas or new model systems, tools or technologies that have the potential for significant impact on biomedical or biobehavioral research.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages transdisciplinary research that will leverage cognitive neuroscience to improve traditional measurement of cognitive impairment following cancer treatment, often referred to as chemobrain. A better understanding of the acute- and late-term cognitive changes following exposure to adjuvant chemotherapy and molecularly-targeted treatments, including hormonal therapy, for non-central nervous system tumors can inform clinical assessment protocols with downstream implications for survivorship care plans.

We are requesting applications for pilot projects that focus on new methods to improve detection of early breast cancer and are especially interested in the development of new techniques in the areas of biological or immunologic methods of early detection. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites U01 applications for the establishment of a clinical consortium, composed of one Coordination and Data Management Center (CDMC) and up to 9 Clinical Centers (CC), to conduct studies on chronic pancreatitis (CP) and factors that increase the risk of pancreatic cancer in patients (children and adults) with CP, pancreatogenic (type 3c) diabetes (T3cDM) and in patients with newly diagnosed diabetes.

The specific purpose is to provide a more rational basis for prioritizing those NCI-supported investigational new drugs or agents (INDs) most likely to have clinical activity with chemo-radiotherapy. The overall goal is to accelerate the pace at which combined modality treatments with greater efficacy are identified and incorporated into standard practices for treatments of patients with solid tumors.

In an effort to confront the crisis arising from a growing dearth of physician-scientists, Damon Runyon wishes to encourage more physicians to pursue research careers. To do so, the Foundation is establishing a pilot program designed to recruit outstanding U.S. Specialty Board-eligible physicians into cancer research careers by providing them with the opportunity for a protected research training experience under the mentorship of a highly qualified and gifted mentor after they have completed all of their clinical training.

As part of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program (Kids First), the NIH invites applications to use whole genome sequencing at a Kids First-supported sequencing center to elucidate the genetic contribution to childhood cancers, and to investigate the genetic etiology of structural birth defects.These data will become part of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Data Resource (Kids First Data Resource) for the pediatric research community.
