The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support observational or intervention research focused on reducing cancer health disparities in tobacco use in the United States. Specifically, this FOA is intended to stimulate scientific inquiry focused on innovative tobacco control policies. Applicants may propose projects in which the primary outcome of interest is on reducing tobacco use cancer health disparities in vulnerable populations by utilizing tobacco prevention and control strategies. The long-term goal of this FOA is to reduce cancer health disparities in health outcomes thereby reducing the excess disease burden of tobacco use within these groups. Applicants submitting applications related to health economics are encouraged to consult NOT-OD-16-025 to ensure that the research projects align with NIH mission priorities in health economics research.

The American Cancer Society is accepting proposals for research projects with the potential to generate new knowledge of the effects of the United States healthcare system structure and the role of insurance in both access to and the outcomes of cancer screening, early detection, and treatment services. ACS is keenly interested in supporting rapid learning research on the effects of health policy changes on patients, providers, and health systems. This includes but is not limited to facilitators and barriers to care; unintended consequences; differential experiences and outcomes of patients seeking or receiving care; best practice models for quality care; and economic impact. Awards will not exceed $200,000 per year (direct costs) for up to four years. To be eligible, applicants must be affiliated with a nonprofit institution in the United States, one of its territories, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or permanent resident of the United States. Independent investigators at all stages of their career are encouraged to apply.

Research projects must represent a highly innovative approach to a major contemporary challenge in cancer research. The research, which can be in any area of basic, translational or clinical science, must have the potential to lead to groundbreaking discoveries in the field and transform our understanding of the tumorigenesis process and/or ability to treat, detect, or prevent cancer.

Despite improved therapies and a deeper molecular understanding of lung and HN cancers, these tumors remain a major health problem in the United States and globally. While molecular markers of early injury to the aerodigestive epithelial field have been found, relatively little is known about the molecular mechanisms that initiate these preneoplasias and drive their progression to invasive cancer. A functional understanding of the key molecular changes involved in the formation and progression of lung and HN preneoplasias will enhance our knowledge of oncogenic progression and accelerate development of effective preventive and therapeutic strategies.

LUNGevity's Career Development Awards for Translational Research program was created to support future research leaders who will keep the field of lung cancer research vibrant with new ideas. Applicants must be within the first five years of their faculty appointment. The Career Development Awards are mentored awards; a mentoring plan is part of the required submission. Projects that will be funded in 2018 are expected to have a direct impact on the early detection of lung cancer or on the outcomes of lung cancer, or to provide a clear conceptual or experimental foundation for the future development of methods for early detection and/or individualized treatment, including through targeted therapy and immunotherapy. Career Development Awards may be for a maximum of $300,000: $100,000 per year for 3 years

The foundation encourages grant applications for short-term (one year) support of new cancer researchers or new approaches by established cancer researchers. It is anticipated that this early stage funding may lead to subsequent and expanded support from government agencies.

The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research funds groundbreaking research that integrates discoveries in biology with innovative technology to deliver breakthroughs to patients. To advance this mission, the foundation is inviting proposals for its Emerging Leaders Awards program, which provides support to early-career investigators engaged in high-impact, high-risk cancer research. Through the annual program, the foundation will award three-year grants of $750,000. The award is intended to support projects for which other sources of funding are not readily available from traditional funding mechanisms or for a separate innovative endeavor that will enhance the PI's current research portfolio. Eligible applicants must hold an MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or the equivalent at a U.S. nonprofit academic institution and be within three to eight years of their initial independent appointment. In addition, applicants must have a demonstrated ability to obtain independent funding for their lab (e.g., one or two grants such as NIH/R01, NSF/CAREER, or equivalent multi-year awards).

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) supports the development of new exploratory research in cancer diagnosis, treatment, imaging, symptom/toxicity, and prevention clinical trials; correlative studies associated with clinical trials; novel cancer therapeutic, symptom/toxicity, and preventive agent development, radiotherapy development activities, and mechanism-driven combinations; and innovative preclinical studies--including the use of new clinically-relevant models and imaging technologies--which could lead to first-in-human clinical trials. The R21 mechanism is intended to encourage exploratory and developmental research projects by providing support for the early and conceptual stages of these projects. The V Scholar Cancer Research Grant supports tenure track faculty early in their cancer research by funding a variety of projects, from laboratory based fundamental to bench to bedside research. This award will specifically fund adult cancer research. OHSU can submit two nominees to this competition if at least one of them identifies as belonging to an underrepresented in science minority ethnic group, which the V Foundation defines as African American, Hispanic American (non-European), Native American or Alaskan Native.

The purpose of this Notice is to inform potential applicants of the special interest of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in encouraging the submission of applications to either PAR-20-089 Biomedical Data Repository ( U24-Clinical Trial Not Allowed) or PAR-20-097 Biomedical Knowledgebase ( U24-Clinical Trial Not Allowed) FOAs, focused on the establishment of new, or continued development of established cancer data resources that use state-of-the-art and cost-effective technologies and approaches, and that are of high value to the broad cancer research community. A single grant of up  to $100,000 over two years will be awarded to an established investigator working on novel approaches in gastric cancer research, including the fields of gastric mucosal cell biology, regeneration and regulation of cell growth (not as it relates to peptic ulcer disease or repair), inflammation (including Helicobacter pylori) as precancerous lesions, genetics of gastric carcinoma, oncogenes in gastric epithelial malignancies, epidemiology of gastric cancer, etiology of gastric epithelial malignancies, or clinical research with respect to the diagnosis or treatment of gastric carcinoma.

The award will facilitate the transition of talented graduate students into successful cancer research postdoctoral appointments, and provide opportunities for career development activities relevant to their long-term career goals of becoming independent cancer researchers.

The fund has taken a broad approach to the study of cell growth and development, emphasizing the study of the basic biology and chemistry of the underlying processes, and increasingly has focused its resources on the funding of three-year postdoctoral fellowships, supporting fellows selected by its board of scientific advisers from among the best young scientists at what is often a critical stage in their careers. As a result, there have been more than sixteen hundred Jane Coffin Childs fellows doing basic cancer-related research in laboratories in North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia. To advance its mission, the JCC Fund is accepting applications for its fellowship program. The fund supports between twenty-five and thirty new three-year cancer research fellowships every year. The current fellowship stipend levels are $52,000 for year one; $52,500 for year two; and $53,000 for year three.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is associated with the Beau Biden Cancer MoonshotSM Initiative that is intended to accelerate cancer research. The purpose of this FOA is to promote research that results in a comprehensive view of the dynamic, multidimensional tumor ecosystem. Specifically, this FOA targets the following area designated as a scientific priority by the Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP): Generation of Human Tumor Atlases. For the purposes of this FOA, a human pre-cancer atlas is defined as a multidimensional cellular, morphological and molecular mapping of human pre-malignant tumors, complemented with critical spatial information (at cellular and/or molecular level) that facilitate visualization of the structure, composition, and multiscale interactions within the tumor ecosystem over time resulting in progression or regression of the tumors.

Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded over twelve months to support clinical and translational research projects directly related to the field of brain cancer. Projects for adult and pediatric brain cancer research will be considered.

Elsa Uhinck Pardee was born on a farm south of Cleveland, Ohio, on November 7, 1884, and received her elementary education in a one-room school. She married James T. Pardee in 1914. A college classmate of Herbert H. Dow, Mr. Pardee was a founder and board member of the Dow Chemical Company. Before her death from breast cancer in 1944 at the age of 59, Elsa directed that $1 million in Dow stock be devoted to the "control and cure of cancer." The Elsa U. Pardee Foundation was formed in memory of Elsa by the family she left behind.
