This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages the submission of investigator-initiated research grant applications to support research investigating the epidemiology of alcohol use, alcohol-related harms, and alcohol use disorders and the prevention of underage drinking, alcohol-related harms, and alcohol use disorders.

The Autism Science Foundation is inviting applications for its Pre- and Postdoctoral Training Awards from graduate students, medical students, and postdoctoral fellows interested in pursuing careers in basic and clinical research relevant to autism spectrum disorders. The proposed training must be scientifically linked to autism and may be broadened to include training in a closely related area of scientific research, including but not limited to human behavior across the lifespan (language, learning, behavior, communication, social function, motor skills & planning, epilepsy, sleep, repetitive disorders), neurobiology (anatomy, development, neuroimaging), pharmacology, neuropathology, genetics, epigenetics, genomics, epigenomics, immunology, molecular and cellular mechanisms, studies employing model organisms and systems, and studies of treatment and service delivery. Special consideration will be given to projects focused on gender issues in autism. This includes studies examining the female protective effect, neurobiological and neuroanatomical examination of the female autism brain, diagnostic differences and challenges in females, the female phenotype, and health and lifespan issues, including vocational services and employment. ASF also invites studies focused on unaffected siblings and recurrence risk in the offspring of unaffected siblings. ASF is also interested in supporting research on the neurobiology and molecular biology of autism using post-mortem brain tissue. The one-year awards include $25,000 for predoctoral and medical students and $35,000 for postdoctoral students.

The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications to examine the impact of behavioral and social interventions designed to improve adherence to Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for persons with Opioid Use Disorders (OUD). Applications may address MAT initiation, implementation, and/or persistence by OUD patients. Descriptive and intervention research that address adherence determinants at more than one level levels of ecologic influence (including the patient, caregiver/family, providers and/or healthcare system, and community levels) are of higher priority. Attention to scientific rigor in all applications is paramount, with emphasis on appropriate sample sizes and valid outcome measures.

This notice announces the opportunity to apply for funding under the Innovations in Care Coordination for Children and Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Other Developmental Disabilities (DD) Program. The purpose of this program is to build on past HRSA programs (HRSA-16-048 and HRSA-13-207) to improve access to coordinated and integrated care for children with, or at risk for, ASD/DD and their families in medically underserved areas and populations.[1],[2] The purpose and objectives of this program will be accomplished by implementing the following two strategies: Family Navigation - Increasing family navigation services to improve communication between families and primary and specialty providers; link children with/at risk for ASD/DD to diagnostic evaluations, ASD/DD services, and community resources; and provide education to families of children with/at risk for ASD/DD to improve self-efficacy in navigating the system of care for children with/at risk for ASD/DD; and Provider Education - Providing education, training, and technical assistance to providers, and community based-organizations providing services to ASD/DD on improving care for children with/at risk for ASD/DD through a learning community. CDC plans to fund one organization to raise awareness about the risks of prenatal alcohol exposure and improve understanding about individuals affected by fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) as well as to promote the prevention of FASDs and care of affected individuals. The work will focus on five major activities: (1) maintaining a national resource directory, (2) developing and disseminating information and resources to various audiences, (3) building capacity for state and local affiliates dedicated to services for FASD prevention as well as identification, care, and support for individuals with FASDs and their families, (4) conducting media outreach and media training, and (5) supporting a speakers bureau for enhanced FASD awareness and prevention efforts. The short-term outcomes to be achieved by the end of the project period focus on increased access to local and state-based resources across the country; increased access to accurate information on FASD prevention as well as identification, support, and care for individuals with FASDs and their families; improved linkages between healthcare champions and local affiliates; and increased awareness of the risks of prenatal alcohol use through use of presenters with lived experience.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages applications for institutional research career development (K12) programs that propose to support intensive supervised research training and career development experiences for clinician scientists (Scholars) leading to research independence in the area of substance use and substance use disorder research. This FOA allows appointment of scholars proposing to serve as the lead investigator of an independent clinical trial; or proposing a separate ancillary study to an existing trial; or proposing to gain research experience in a clinical trial led by another investigator, as part of their research and career development. For this FOA, clinician scientists may include (but are not limited to) physicians, clinical psychologists, epidemiologists, doctoral level social workers, pharmacists, and behavioral scientists. Scholars are expected to be supported for 3­5 years on consecutive 12­month appointments. Candidates selected for support as scholars must hold a doctorate and commit a minimum of 9 person­months (equivalent to 75% of full-time professional effort) to conducting clinical research and career development activities associated with the proposed program.

This initiative will support projects that exploit Omics assays to address outstanding questions regarding molecular regulation of persistent HIV (e.g. latency or reservoirs) in the context of chronic substance use or substance use disorder (SUD).

Applications high in innovation and significance are highly encouraged that address the following potential topics: 1) defining recovery; 2) Examining new and innovative methods to examine precipitants of relapse; 3) Understanding mechanisms of mutual help and recovery; 4) Evaluating recovery systems of care; and 5) Examining processes of extended treatment for AUD.

A single grant of up to $8,000 grant will be awarded to support novel basic and clinical research on anxiety and anxiety related disorders conducted by graduate students and early career researchers. To be eligible, applicants must be a graduate student or early-career researcher (no more than ten years postdoctoral); be affiliated with a nonprofit charitable, educational, or scientific institution, or a governmental entity operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes; have a demonstrated knowledge of anxiety and anxiety research, either basic or clinical; and have demonstrated competence and the capacity to execute the proposed work.

In this funding opportunity announcement (FOA), we invite prospective applicants to propose research addressing treatment of pregnant women with opioid use disorder and pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies of medications used for maternal treatment.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support research that advances compounds towards FDA approval by leveraging NIDA funds with the strengths and resources of outside organizations, such as for-profit and not-for-profit entities, including academic institutions, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, private and public foundations, and small businesses. Applications from single entities that possess considerable resources for medications development will also be considered, provided the entity demonstrates a significant resource commitment to the proposed project. A resource commitment from a single entity could, for example, consist of salary support for key personnel or production and formulation of clinical trial material. It is anticipated that in comparison with traditional grant-funded research, strategic alliances will increase the pace at which medications to treat Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) move through the drug development process. Both the project period and budget of the grant are consistent with the objective of accelerating the pace of medications development compared to traditional research project grant funding. Project aims can range from the development of a new molecular entity to the expansion of an existing medication's clinical indication(s). Each project should have a defined entry and exit point in the medications development pathway, with the objective of advancement in the FDA approval process. It is hoped that support for these collaborations will accelerate the rate of medications development for SUDs.

The purpose of this FOA is to provide support for applications that focus on data replication and the scalability of novel, targeted addiction treatments. Consistent with an experimental therapeutics approach, studies that would fall under the R33 (Phase II) would include studies with theory-derived targets (based on putative mechanisms of ATOD) and clearly defined hypotheses about how the proposed treatment directed at changing the target relates to clinical outcomes. In addition, studies that include preliminary efficacy with respect to target engagement and validation (i.e., data to establish the relation between target and symptom reduction and functional outcomes) are essential to the Phase II arm (R33). Studies of novel treatments include, but are not limited to behavioral, pharmacological, biologics-based, cognitive, device-based, interpersonal, physiological, or combined approaches. This FOA provides support for replication studies of addiction treatment across 2 or more settings. Specifically, this phase will focus on clinical trials that apply the target in a treatment setting (testing, refinement, and/or adaptation) to evaluate the efficacy and replicability of larger trials. Ultimately, the goal of this FOA is to replicate findings of mechanisms and processes underlying treatments or replication of strategies into novel intervention approaches that can be efficiently tested and replicated for their promise to address substance use disorder outcomes. Furthermore, these studies build on data that have been demonstrated with sufficient signal of target engagement from an analogous R21-like study to justify the proposed R33 trials.
