Through its fellowship programs, the Starr Center supports innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to the American past - especially by fostering the art of written history. Visiting fellows find a place where they can retreat from daily responsibilities and focus on their writing projects - but also one where they are stimulated by interactions with students, faculty, and distinguished visitors. The Center's Patrick Henry Writing Fellowship supports outstanding writing on American history and culture by both scholars and nonacademic authors; it offers a $45,000 stipend for the academic year, plus living arrangements and other benefits. The Hodson Trust-John Carter Brown Fellowship is open to applicants from a wide range of disciplines who are pursuing projects on the literature, history, culture, or art of the Americas before 1830. The award supports two months of research and two months of writing. The stipend is $5,000 per month for a total of $20,000, plus housing and university privileges. Click here for more information. Creative placemaking animates public and private spaces, rejuvenates structures and streetscapes, improves local business viability and public safety, and brings diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired

ArtPlace America invites Letters of Inquiry for our Innovation Grants program from initiatives involving arts organizations, artists and designers working in partnership with local and national partners on place-based strategies that can transform communities. The Innovation Grants program is designed to invest in creative placemaking projects that reach for new possibilities and involve a variety of partners who together are committed to increasing the vibrancy and diversity of their communities. ArtPlace America sees its role as providing venture funding in the form of grants-seeding entrepreneurial projects that lead through the arts, already enjoy strong local buy-in, integrate with a community's economic development and community revitalization strategies, and have the potential to attract additional private and public support to the community. We want to learn alongside those doing this groundbreaking work and spread the lessons they are learning to other communities across the U.S.

With the goal of promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in Arts and Humanities education, the Arts and Humanities Division will offer financial support for faculty to present  on the process and/or results of undergraduate research at regional or national Arts and/or Humanities conferences. The awards will be from $500 to $800 and up to three will be awarded for presentations that  have been accepted and presented no earlier than Sept. 1, 2013, and no later than June 30, 2014.

Funding research in the manufacturing space in focus areas identified as major challenges is one way Walmart can facilitate and accelerate U.S. manufacturing. The Fund will achieve this goal through grants that directly support applied research projects advancing innovative solutions to key challenges that, once addressed, can lower the cost of making consumer products in the U.S. The Fund looks primarily at the following criteria: (1) impact on consumer product manufacturing, (2) stage of development and commercial viability, (3) degree of innovation, and (4) ability of the organization and team to successfully carry out the proposed project. Specific eligibility requirements are as follows: 1.      Only U.S. 501(c)(3) organizations and public universities that are instrumentalities of a state government are eligible for funding at this time* 2.     At least 50% of project teams must be based in the U.S. 3.     Project teams should seek sponsorship from the mayor of a USCM mayor when submitting full project proposals 4.     Proposed projects should address a technological innovation that can advance U.S. manufacturing. For the current RFP, we are seeking to support projects reducing the cost of producing textiles and apparel in the U.S. More specifically, we are seeking projects that address: Weaving Fabric dyeing Cut and sew 5.     Projects must have a budget exceeding $100,000 per year 6.     Overhead costs must not exceed 10% of total project budget 7.     Prospective grantees should demonstrate an ability to conduct the proposed product via expertise and/or past experience The Fund is currently not awarding grants for building or capital projects, supplier agreements, or other non-research projects.

The Association of Historians of American Art (AHAA) offers two grants of $500 each to defray College Art Association conference expenses, including transportation, housing, and registration fees, for presenting members. The first grant is for an ABD graduate student in American art history who is currently enrolled in a graduate program and will travel to CAA's annual conference to appear on the meeting program. The second grant is to support a contingent faculty member or museum staff person whose work engages with the art of the United States, does not have access to travel funds from their institution of employment, and will travel to CAA's annual conference to appear on the meeting program. Applications for Travel Grants are due by December 1 and must include a short cv and letter of interest. The letter should indicate which award is being applied for - Professional or Graduate Student - and must include the applicant's paper and session title as they appear on the CAA program. For the Professional award, applicants should also address their institutional affiliation. The two winners of the AHAA Travel Grant must be members of AHAA at the time of their application. All qualified candidates will be entered into a lottery and the winners selected at random. Applicants will be notified via email by December 15. The Prairie Ronde Artist Residency is located in historic Vicksburg, Michigan, near Kalamazoo. The residency offers access to the 420,000-square foot former Lee Paper Company paper mill and its adjacent 80 acres of property to use as inspiration. From the French meaning "round meadow," the residency is named for the swaths of grasses and wildflowers that once dotted the landscape of southwest Michigan. First settled in 1831, Vicksburg is a quaint, rural village surrounded by lush agricultural land dotted with lakes, stands of hardwood forests, and gently flowing streams. Through the program, visual artists, writers, and musicians will receive a $2,000 stipend, a $500 travel grant, and the private use of a car for a residency of between four and seven weeks. Artists are encouraged to use Prairie Ronde's close ties to members of the village community and the area's creative community and ask that artists propose a community "give back" such as a workshop, final show, or open studio days, as well as donate a piece of work to the Prairie Ronde collection.

Staley to encourage and facilitate use of the center's collections for scholarly inquiry. The program enables scholars from around the world to visit the center and conduct on-site research in its extensive collections of manuscripts, rare books, photographs, artworks, and other materials documenting America's cultural history and the creative process In 2020-21, the center will award ten dissertation fellowships and up to fifty postdoctoral fellowships for projects that require substantial on-site use of the center's collections. The collections support research in all areas of the humanities, including literature, photography, film, art, the performing arts, music, and cultural history. Through the program, recipients receive $3,500 per month for one to three months. Travel stipends and dissertation fellowships provide stipends of $2,000. International fellows will receive an additional $500 to offset visa and travel costs.

In 2013, Joan K. Davidson, president of Furthermore, established the Alice award to honor her mother, Alice Manheim Kaplan.  Alice loved and collected the illustrated book as a work of art in itself and an essential document of a civilized society. The $25,000 Alice award is given annually to a richly illustrated book that makes a valuable contribution to its field and demonstrates high standards of production. Books selected by the award jury for the Alice Short List each receive $5,000. The award is intended to buttress the kind of slow reading movement that recognizes and cherishes the lasting values of the well-made illustrated book, and the special sense of intimacy it affords. Fields considered include the fine arts and the natural and built environments and related public issues.

Priority will be given to applications that show capacity to design and implement quasi-experimental or experimental studies (using primary and/or secondary data sources) with theory-driven research questions and methodologies that will yield important information about the impact of the arts within the selected topic area. Competitive applications will take into account any extant research that serves as a basis for a theoretical framework and helps to motivate the proposed project. We also welcome novel and promising research approaches, such as rigorous analyses of organizational or social networks and/or social media data. In addition, we are interested in translational research that moves scientific evidence toward the development, testing, and standardization of new arts-related programs, practices, models, or tools that can be used easily by other practitioners and researchers.

An organization may submit only one proposal under this program solicitation. This Cooperative Agreement will begin no earlier than January 1, 2020, and extend for up to 24 months. Program Description The National Endowment for the Arts ("Arts Endowment") assists organizations in effectivity incorporating the arts into community development efforts by funding creative placemaking projects across the country. These projects advance local economic, physical, and/or social outcomes by placing the arts at the table with other sectors, such as agriculture and food, economic development, education and youth, environment and energy, health, housing, public safety, transportation, and workforce development. For the last decade, these activities have primarily been supported through the agency's Our Town grant program. In the course of this work, it became clear that many Our Town grantees would benefit from direct, hands-on technical assistance while executing their projects at the local level. In 2016, the Arts Endowment began the Our Town Technical Assistance Pilot Program to provide select Our Town grantees with targeted technical assistance. To build upon the pilot program's success and to further strengthen the field of creative placemaking, the Arts Endowment now plans to develop a more expansive technical assistance program. The Creative Placemaking Technical Assistance Program will serve a wider audience of both prospective applicants to and grantees of the Our Town program, as well other communities interested in undertaking creative placemaking activities. Short-term technical assistance institutes will be convened to gather experts with teams of local leaders

Pillars Fund is dedicated to amplifying the leadership, narrative, and talents of American Muslims. Pillars aspires to put an end to bigotry, xenophobia, and other divisive tactics that keep our nation apart. Support is provided to nonprofit organizations throughout the United States that address the following issues: Rights, with a focus on social and policy change efforts that protect and expand the human and civil rights of us all; Wellness, with a focus on the growth and nurturing of whole, healthy American Muslim communities; and Understanding, with a focus on amplifying American Muslim voices and creating a deeper understanding of American Muslims.

The Fender Music Foundation is currently awarding acoustic guitars, electric guitars, acoustic-electric guitars, bass guitars and the equipment necessary to play these instruments. However, other traditional music instruments are sometimes available. Traditional instruments include string instruments, woodwind instruments, brass instruments, percussion instruments, keyboards and voice. These items are lightly used, blemished or otherwise imperfect and have been collected from manufacturers and retailers. DJ equipment and computers are not available through The Fender Music Foundation. Grant Eligibility Criteria The Fender Music Foundation awards traditional instruments only to music instruction programs that are part of 501c3 organizations or public schools in the United States. To qualify as a music instruction program, participants must be learning how to make music. Participants can be of any age. However, music appreciation or entertainment programs do not qualify, and the participants cannot be professional or career musicians. A qualified program must fit into one of these four categories: In-school music classes, in which the students make music After-school music programs that are not run by the school Community music programs, which offer music instruction to community members Music therapy programs, in which the participants make the music In addition, the program must meet the following five criteria: Individuals are not denied participation based on their musical abilities. If the participants pay to participate, the fee is considerably less than the fair market value. The program has been functioning smoothly for at least one year. Each program participant receives music instruction at least once a week for at least eight months per year. (Camps and workshops are not eligible.) With or without a grant from The Fender Music Foundation, the organization is confident that the program will exist for the foreseeable future.

As part of this mission, CCCD has issued a Request for Proposals for a new pilot grant initiative that aims to support the expanding definition of craft-based research and promote collaboration between the fields of craft, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.   Through the Materials-Based Research Grant program, grants of up to $15,000 over eighteen months will be awarded to interdisciplinary teams of researchers to encourage mutually beneficial innovation in craft and STEM fields, with a focus on materials and process-based research. The teams should include one maker and one professional working in a STEM-based field (e.g., material science, manufacturing, environmental studies, medicine, structural engineering, etc.). This can include academics, researchers, scientists, full-time makers, or other skilled specialists.

The School of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Huddersfield is offering competitive PhD scholarships for 2015. Part of the call represents our aspiration to extend existing, and build future research relationships within the Yorkshire Sculpture triangle.  Art Research and Sculptural Thinking - PhD Scholarships Drawing from expertise in sculpture studies, photography, art history, philosophy, theory, public engagement and cultural analysis, staff working in this area have made significant contributions to understanding the changing role of art, its distribution and reception in local and global environments. Building on a longstanding formal relationship with Yorkshire Sculpture Park, new research exchanges are being established both regionally, in the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle and worldwide.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the Embassy of the United States in Islamabad, Pakistan is pleased to announce an open competition for assistance awards through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore announce an open competition for a cooperative agreement to establish a University Partnership between a four-year college or university in the United States and National College of Arts (NCA)-Lahore in Film & Television Arts. Accredited U.S. four-year colleges and universities meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to pursue institutional or departmental objectives in partnership with National College of Arts (NCA)-Lahore. Objectives detailed as priorities for this partnership include: curriculum development, collaborative research, long distance teaching (via Internet/DVC), sharing of resources, professional development for faculty, and faculty and student exchanges. Faculty and student exchange programs of a full semester are preferred. The means of achieving these objectives is purposefully left broad to encourage the submission of innovative proposals tailored to the international education and research goals of both institutions. Applicants should consult NCA Lahore when developing their proposal. The timeframe for achieving the objectives must be clearly outlined in the proposal funding request. The project implementation period should be 36 months.
