An individual may submit only one application for FY 2019 funding. You may not apply for both a Translation Project under this deadline (December 5, 2017) and a Literature Fellowship (in prose or poetry) under the 2018 deadline (when fellowships in prose are offered). The Arts Endowment's support of a project may begin any time between November 1, 2018, and November 1, 2019, and extend for up to two years. Program Description Through fellowships to published translators, the National Endowment for the Arts supports projects for the translation of specific works of prose, poetry, or drama from other languages into English. We encourage translations of writers and of work that are not well represented in English translation. All proposed projects must be for creative translations of literary material into English. The work to be translated should be of interest for its literary excellence and value. Priority will be given to projects that involve work that has not previously been translated into English. Competition for fellowships is rigorous. Potential applicants should consider carefully whether their work will be competitive at the national level.

Projects funded by the OHC must demonstrate a humanities focus - drawing on topics and themes from the humanities fields, including Archaeology, Comparative Religion, Ethics, History, Languages & Linguistics, Literature, Jurisprudence, Philosophy, the History, Theory, and Criticism of the Arts, and certain aspects of the Social Sciences which use historical or philosophical approaches - as well as humanities scholar involvement, public benefit, balanced viewpoints, effective program formats and sponsor cost-share.

The Media Projects program supports film, television, and radio projects that engage general audiences with humanities ideas in creative and appealing ways. All projects must be grounded in humanities scholarship in disciplines such as history, art history, film studies, literature, drama, religious studies, philosophy, or anthropology. Projects must also demonstrate an approach that is thoughtful, balanced, and analytical (rather than celebratory). The approach to the subject matter must go beyond the mere presentation of factual information to explore its larger significance and stimulate critical thinking. NEH is a national funding agency, so the projects that we support must demonstrate the potential to attract a broad general audience.

Public Humanities Projects grants support projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life for general audiences. Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art, or to address challenging issues in contemporary life.  NEH encourages projects that involve members of the public in collaboration with humanities scholars or that invite contributions from the community in the development and delivery of humanities programming.

University College Cork invites applications for scholarships in the four-year structured PhD programme in Digital Arts and Humanities (DAH). Successful candidates will be registered with the full-time inter-disciplinary structured PhD programme co-ordinated with an all-Irish university consortium. Candidates will pursue their individual research agendas within the program, based on projects developed from proposals which they provide during the application process. Through its fellowship programs, the Starr Center supports innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to the American past - especially by fostering the art of written history. Visiting fellows find a place where they can retreat from daily responsibilities and focus on their writing projects - but also one where they are stimulated by interactions with students, faculty, and distinguished visitors. The Center's Patrick Henry Writing Fellowship supports outstanding writing on American history and culture by both scholars and nonacademic authors; it offers a $45,000 stipend for the academic year, plus living arrangements and other benefits. The Hodson Trust-John Carter Brown Fellowship is open to applicants from a wide range of disciplines who are pursuing projects on the literature, history, culture, or art of the Americas before 1830. The award supports two months of research and two months of writing. The stipend is $5,000 per month for a total of $20,000, plus housing and university privileges. Click here for more information. The American Academy in Rome invites applications for the Rome Prize competition. One of leading overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and the humanities. The Academy offers up to thirty fellowships for periods ranging from six months to two years. Rome Prize winners reside at the academy's eleven-acre center in Rome and receive room and board, a private study or studio, and a stipend. Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

The University of Delaware Library and the Delaware Art Museum invite applications for the 2014 joint Fellowship in Pre-Raphaelite Studies. This one-month Fellowship is intended for scholars working on the Pre-Raphaelites and their associates. Up to $3,000 is available. The Delaware Art Museum is home to the most important collection of Pre-Raphaelite art in the US. Assembled largely by Samuel Bancroft, Jr., the collection includes paintings, works on paper, decorative arts, manuscripts, and letters, and is augmented by the museum's Helen Farr Sloan art library. With comprehensive holdings in books, periodicals, electronic resources, and microforms, the University of Delaware Library is a major resource for the study of literature and art. The Special Collections Department contains material related to the Pre-Raphaelites, who are also well-represented in the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection of Victorian books, manuscripts, and artworks.

ARIT / National Endowment for the Humanities Advanced Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT/NEH Advanced Fellowships cover all fields of the humanities, including prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history for applicants who have completed their academic training. The fellowships may be held for terms ranging from four months to a full year. Stipends range from $16,800 to 50,400. ARIT Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT Fellowships are offered for research in ancient, medieval, or modern times, in any field of the humanities and social sciences. Post-doctoral and advanced doctoral fellowships may be held for various terms, for terms from one to three months up to one academic year. Stipends range from $4,000 to $16,000. Applications for ARIT fellowships must be submitted to ARIT before November 1, 2013. The fellowship committee will notify applicants by late January, 2014. ARIT LANGUAGE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS 2014. ARIT - Princeton Summer Fellowships for Intensive Advanced Turkish Language at Bogazici University, Istanbul, summer 2014. The program supports intensive study of advanced Turkish language at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey, including air fare, tuition, and stipend. The application deadline is February 1.

The Huntington is an independent research center with extensive holdings in British and American history, literature, art history, and the history of science and medicine, with the collections ranging chronologically from the eleventh century to the present. The Huntington will award to scholars over one hundred fellowships for the academic year 2014-2015. These fellowships derive from a variety of funding sources and have different terms. Recipients of all fellowships are expected to be in continuous residence at the Huntington and to participate in and make a contribution to its intellectual life. NEH FELLOWSHIPS offer stipends of up to $50,000 for nine to twelve months. BARBARA THOM POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS are intended to support a non-tenured faculty member who is revising a manuscript for publication, carrying a stipend of $50,000 for nine to twelve months. THE MELLON FELLOWSHIP is for nine to twelve months with a stipend of $50,000. THE DANA AND DAVID DORNSIFE FELLOWSHIP is for nine to twelve months with a stipend of $50,000. HUNTINGTON RESEARCH AWARDS are for one to five months and carry monthly stipends of $3,000. TRAVEL GRANTS AND EXCHANGE FELLOWSHIPS FOR STUDY IN GREAT BRITAIN are offered to support U.S.-based scholars in any of the fields in which the Huntington collections are strong and where the research will be carried out in Great Britain. We also offer exchange fellowships with Corpus Christi College, Linacre College, and Lincoln College, Oxford. THE DIBNER PROGRAM IN THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE offers historians of science and technology the opportunity to study in the Burndy Library and to work in the other resources for the history of science and technology at the Huntington. The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, Austin advances understanding of the humanities for a broad and diverse audience through the preservation and sharing of its extraordinary collections, providing unique insight into the creative process of writers and artists and deepening our understanding and appreciation of literature, photography, film, art, and the performing arts.

The center is accepting applications for its Research Fellowship program. Through the program, approximately seventy fellowships will be awarded for projects that require substantial on-site use of its collections. The fellowships support research in all areas of the humanities, including literature, photography, film, art, the performing arts, music, and cultural history.

Now in its thirty-third year, the annual program provides financial support to developing or established professionals for projects that are pivotal to the advancement of their career as artists. Because such projects may happen at different stages of a career, Emerging Artists grants are not restricted to new or emerging artists. Grants of up to $1,500 will be awarded in support of artistic projects in the areas of painting/drawing, photography, installation, film/video, drama, literature, printmaking/mixed media, craft, sculpture, dance, and music.

The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation is accepting applications from American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian artists for its National Artist Fellowship program, which annually supports Native artists in the categories of traditional arts, music, visual arts, literature and artistic innovation.

Fellows are chosen from the disciplines of architecture, design, historic preservation and conservation, landscape architecture, literature, musical composition, visual arts, ancient studies, medieval studies, Renaissance and Early Modern studies, and Modern Italian studies.

The Bridging Cultures through Film: International Topics program supports documentary films that examine international and transnational themes in the humanities. These projects are meant to spark Americans' engagement with the broader world by exploring countries and cultures outside of the United States. Proposed documentaries must be analytical and deeply grounded in humanities scholarship. The Division of Public Programs encourages innovative nonfiction storytelling that presents multiple points of view in creative formats. The proposed film should range in length from thirty minutes to a feature-length documentary. We invite a wide range of approaches to international and transnational topics and themes, such as * an examination of a critical issue in ethics, religion, literature, or history, viewed through an international lens; * an exploration of a topic that transcends a single nation-state; * a biography of a foreign leader, writer, artist, or historical figure; or * an exploration of the history and culture(s) of a specific region, country, or community outside of the United States.

The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum Research Center sponsors full-time scholarships in American Modernism from the late nineteenth-century to the present.  Stipends are awarded to historians in the fields of art, architecture and design, literature, music and photography.  Research Center scholars have access to the archive and library collections of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum as well as collections from archival and library institutions across the Albuquerque and Santa Fe communities. 

The competition theme is "Blue." Shades, spaces, feelings of blue. Show us what blue means to you. Article submissions are accepted from all writers 18 years and older, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short stories and other written explorations (up to 900 words). There is one Gold Winner cash award, one writer profile award and at least three publication awards. All work is evaluated based on the vision as relates to the submission theme. Submissions including diverse interpretations of the theme will be considered. The beauty of art is that 100 artists can look at the same thing and interpret it in completely unique ways. That's what can make it breathtaking. Share your interpretation and you might win a cash prize, be professionally reviewed, and/or be published in ArtAscent Journal of Art & Literature!

The New Netherland Institute now offers an annual $1000 prize for the best published article relating to the Dutch colonial experience in the Atlantic world, with a special sensitivity to New Netherland or its legacy. A committee of scholars will consider entries in the fields of history, archaeology, literature, language, geography, biography, and the arts. Entries must be based upon original research. Articles must be written in English and be published for the first time no earlier than 2013. Chapters from a monograph, works of fiction, and encyclopedia entries will not be considered. Only one submission per author will be accepted. Both academic and independent scholars are invited to participate.
