Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to projects that further understanding of Japanese arts and culture in the United States through the performing arts, exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, symposia, and other cultural events. Priority will be given to those projects that have secured additional funding from sources other than the Japan Foundation.

The Arts Endowment's support of a project may start on July 1, 2020, or any time thereafter. A grant period of up to two years is allowed. An organization may submit as a lead applicant two applications to Our Town. A partnering organization may serve as a partner on as many applications as they like. You may apply to other National Endowment for the Arts funding opportunities, including Art Works and Challenge America, in addition to Our Town. In each case, the request must be for a distinctly different project, or a distinctly different phase of a project. If you have applied to the NEA in the past and were not recommended for funding, you may apply again to any funding opportunity, including Our Town. The U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section in Moscow (PAS Moscow) invites proposal submissions for a cooperative agreement to provide technical and logistical support for arts and cultural programming in Russia. The grant recipient will work closely with Public Affairs and Cultural Affairs at Mission Russia to identify and select American artists and performers to bring to Russia for short-term programs. Performances may include, but are not limited to music, dance, theater and film/television acting, and culinary arts. The grant may occasionally include programs for artists in the spheres of photography, comic books and graphic arts, computer art and design, arts management, painting, and other visual and graphic art. Individual athletes or groups of athletes may also be supported through this program to demonstrate their talent. The grantee will be responsible for assisting with support in the form of fee negotiation with the artists, visa assistance, in-country and international transportation arrangements, airport pickup, event promotion, procurement of educational and printed materials, and other technical and logistical support as directed by PAS Moscow. Additional examples of supporting activities include reimbursing artists for program-related expenditures and processing vendor payments for travel expenses, support, or other items.

The Harry Ransom Center fellowship program at the University of Texas at Austin was established in 1989 under the directorship of Thomas F. Staley to encourage and facilitate use of the center's collections for scholarly inquiry. The program enables scholars from around the world to visit the center and conduct on-site research in its extensive collections of manuscripts, rare books, photographs, artworks, and other materials documenting America's cultural history and the creative process In 2020-21, the center will award ten dissertation fellowships and up to fifty postdoctoral fellowships for projects that require substantial on-site use of the center's collections. The collections support research in all areas of the humanities, including literature, photography, film, art, the performing arts, music, and cultural history. Through the program, recipients receive $3,500 per month for one to three months. Travel stipends and dissertation fellowships provide stipends of $2,000. International fellows will receive an additional $500 to offset visa and travel costs. 

1) Arts Engagement, Cultural Planning, and Design Projects: Projects in this category should represent the distinct character and quality of their communities. They also must involve a partnership between a nonprofit organization and a local government entity, with one of the partners being a cultural organization. Matching grants will range from $25,000 to $200,000. 2) Projects that Build Knowledge (about creative placemaking): Grants in this category are available to arts and design service organizations and industry or university organizations that provide technical assistance to those doing place-based work. Matching grants will range from $25,000 to $100,000.

To advance this mission, the Cincinnati-based organization is accepting applications for the fall cycle of its Catalyzing Impact Grant Program, which aims to encourage a breadth of programming through arts and cultural heritage projects that support the goals of its Blueprint for Collective Action. Through the program, grants of up to $15,000 (or 50 percent of total project expenses) will be awarded in support of new or existing projects that demonstrate impact in a new or expanded geography (e.g., neighborhood, municipality, or county); serve a new or expanded audience (e.g., age or culturally specific); or deepen impact within an existing project (e.g., expanded themes, content, or timeframe).

The Department of State’s Cultural Programs Division in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce an open competition for grant proposals from U.S. based non-profit organizations including museums, galleries, visual arts centers and schools to organize the official U.S. presentation at the 57th International Art Exhibition to be held in Venice, Italy, June through November, 2017.

Through its fellowship programs, the Starr Center supports innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to the American past - especially by fostering the art of written history. Visiting fellows find a place where they can retreat from daily responsibilities and focus on their writing projects - but also one where they are stimulated by interactions with students, faculty, and distinguished visitors. The Center's Patrick Henry Writing Fellowship supports outstanding writing on American history and culture by both scholars and nonacademic authors; it offers a $45,000 stipend for the academic year, plus living arrangements and other benefits. The Hodson Trust-John Carter Brown Fellowship is open to applicants from a wide range of disciplines who are pursuing projects on the literature, history, culture, or art of the Americas before 1830. The award supports two months of research and two months of writing. The stipend is $5,000 per month for a total of $20,000, plus housing and university privileges. Click here for more information. The Arts Endowment's support of a project may start on May 1, 2019, or any time thereafter. Grants generally may cover a period of performance of up to two years, with an exception for projects that include primary data collection as part of the proposed activity. Projects that include primary data collection may request up to three years. Projects that extend beyond one year will be required to submit an annual progress report. A grantee may not receive more than one National Endowment for the Arts grant for the same project during the same period of performance. Grant Program Description In September 2012, the National Endowment for the Arts' (NEA) Office of Research & Analysis published a five-year research agenda, supported by a system map and measurement model. Titled How Art Works, the report offers a framework for studying research topics critical to a broader public understanding of the arts' value and/or impact for individuals and communities. In December 2016, the NEA's research office updated its five-year agenda for 2017-2021, which reflects a tighter focus on Arts Participation and Arts/Cultural Assets as essential research topics. Arts Participation, in the new agenda, remains inclusive of various modes of participation and specific arts activities. These modes are: attending arts events; reading literature; creating or performing art; consuming art via electronic media; and learning in the arts. Arts/Cultural Assets denotes artists and arts workers, arts venues and platforms, and arts organizations and industries.

The purpose of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts is to foster innovative artistic expression and the creative process by supporting cultural organizations that, in turn, support artists and their work. Grants are provided to curatorial programs at museums, artists' organizations, and other cultural institutions to originate innovative and scholarly presentations of contemporary visual arts. Projects may include exhibitions, catalogues, and other relevant activities. Proposals that highlight women, artists of color, and under-represented practitioners are encouraged. The Foundation has designated one of its grants, The Wynn Kramarsky Freedom of Artistic Expression Award, to recognize the work of organizations with a deep-seated commitment to defending the First Amendment rights of artists. To that end, grants will be awarded to museums and cultural institutions in support of efforts to conserve works of art that are in danger of deterioration, including works that have been designated as national treasures. To qualify for the program, works of art must be significant to the cultural heritage of the country or region, or important to the history of art; on view to the public (or will be on view once conservation is complete); and be a painting, work on paper, photograph, sculpture, architectural or archeological piece, important book or manuscript, tapestry or work of decorative or applied art in danger of deterioration.

The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation is accepting applications from American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian artists for its National Artist Fellowship program, which annually supports Native artists in the categories of traditional arts, music, visual arts, literature and artistic innovation.

To be eligible, projects must be sited in Boston and have a lead applicant who is either an individual artist, an artist applying on behalf of a clearly articulated artistic collaboration, an unincorporated collective/company with strong artist leadership, or a culturally specific, immigrant, traditional cultural practitioner group. 

Administered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the USArtists International program supports performances by American artists at important cultural festivals and arts marketplaces around the globe. USAI encourages and promotes the vibrant diversity of American artists and creative expression in the performing arts by expanding opportunity and exposure to international audiences, encouraging international cultural exchange, and enhancing the creative and professional development of U.S. based artists by providing connections with presenters, curators, and artists around the world. Grants of up to $15,000 will be awarded to American dance, music, and theater ensembles and solo performers that have been invited to perform at international festivals and/or for performance engagements that represent extraordinary career opportunities anywhere in the world outside the U.S.

The Headlands Center for the Arts campus comprises a cluster of artist-rehabilitated military buildings just north of the Golden Gate Bridge at historic Fort Barry in the Marin Headlands, a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The center's programs support artists in all disciplines - from visual artists to performers, musicians, writers, and videographers - and provide opportunities for independent and collaborative creative work. The center currently is inviting applications for its Artist in Residence program. Through the program, fully sponsored residencies that include a monthly stipend of $500 will be awarded to approximately fifty local, national, and international artists at the cutting edge of their fields whose work has the potential to impact the cultural landscape at large. Residencies run from four to ten weeks and include round-trip airfare, up to 2,000-square-foot studios, five chef-prepared meals per week, access to vehicles as well as basic woodshop; audio/video equipment; an artists' library with computer, scanner, and printer; and field trips to Bay Area museums, galleries, and cultural venues. There is an application fee of $25. Eligible artists may be at any stage their career and work in any media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice, and architecture.

FilmWatch grants support curated screening programs at North America-based film festivals, film societies and other film-related organizations. Targeted programs include those that create culturally diverse viewing experiences, promote motion pictures as an art form, provide a platform for underrepresented artists, and cultivate new and dedicated audiences for theatrical film. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $20,000. FilmCraft grants support high-quality educational programs that identify and empower future filmmakers from nontraditional backgrounds. Targeted programs include those that encourage an appreciation of film as both a vocation and an art form, and those that provide direct, hands-on opportunities for participants to gain the filmmaking skills they need to tell their stories. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $20,000. The program also supports the Academy's commitment to diversity in the industry. Diversity encompasses artists as well as audiences; the cultural and geographic communities to which they belong; their age, gender, race, ethnicity, disabilities, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The Academy seeks to fund proven and rising institutions that open pathways for storytellers from a wide range of backgrounds, and especially those from underserved communities.

Native artists offer profound contributions to intellectual inquiry and global dialogue. Native artists are at thresholds of exploration in unfolding creative terrains. They are deepening their impact on the field of contemporary arts practice and are forging new recognition in national and international communities. Through the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Artist Fellowships program, we hope to foster the creativity of our Indigenous artists, allowing the opportunity for study, reflection, experimentation, and innovation.
