In a collaborative effort, the Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF) and the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) are seeking grant applications that focus on studying the underlying mechanisms of the aging process as it relates to arthritis.

The goal of this FOA is to test whether or not the ages of laboratory animals is an important consideration in experimental outcomes in the study of disease pathology, degenerative condition, response to therapy, intervention or environmental exposure. The majority of studies of human conditions and diseases in laboratory animals are done using young animals. 

Through the annual program, the foundation will award a two-year grant of up to $180,000 over two years to non-Duke faculty for research with the potential to advance the knowledge or treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Priority will be given to pilot studies that can lead to more conventional funding.

The purpose of this research is to investigate models for linking community pharmacists (e.g., independent, chain, franchise, mail order, retail) to primary care providers to enhance medication review and management in older adults, and examine the potential health benefits of primary care-pharmacy linkages.

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) invites applications specific to infrastructure that will support storage and analysis of primary and secondary data for the genetics and genomics of Alzheimer's Disease.

The  Progeria Research Foundation is seeking proposals from principal researchers for projects related to Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS), a rare, fatal, "premature aging" disease that affects children.

Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.

NIJ, in collaboration with other Federal agencies, is interested in funding a cooperative agreement to conduct a rigorous, multi-year demonstration project to prevent abuse, neglect, and/or financial exploitation among community-residing elderly individuals identified to be at risk. Ultimately, the demonstration project will include development and implementation of the intervention, and, pending funding, a rigorous scientific evaluation of its effectiveness. Successful proposals will develop an intervention that: 1) specifies a theory of change; 2) builds upon evidence-based violence prevention interventions in related areas; 3) identifies a rationale and strategy for selecting participants; and 4) is designed to be replicated, scaled up, and independently evaluated if the demonstration project indicates effectiveness in preventing elder abuse. Applicants may develop and test interventions to prevent either a single form or multiple forms of elder mistreatment. Initial funding under this solicitation will cover an 18-month planning phase. Upon successful completion of the planning phase, additional funding may become available to support the implementation of an 18-month pilot study.

The purpose of the National Falls Prevention Resource Center will be to work collaboratively – on behalf of the public, aging services network, and other stakeholders – to increase public education about the risks of falls and how to prevent them, as well as support and stimulate the implementation and dissemination of evidence-based community programs and strategies that have been proven to reduce the incidence of falls among older adults and adults with disabilities.

The purpose of the National Chronic Disease Self-Management Education (CDSME) Resource Center will be to provide leadership, expert guidance, and resources to promote the value of and increase access to evidence-based self-management programs; and to serve as a national clearinghouse and disseminate resources and best practices to increase the capacity of states, aging, disability and public health networks and their partners to implement and sustain CDSME programs.

Research areas supported by the program include, but are not limited to, human genetic variation, human adaptation, human osteology and bone biology, human and nonhuman primate paleontology, functional anatomy, and primate socioecology. Grants supported in these areas are united by an underlying evolutionary framework, and often a consideration of adaptation as a central theoretical theme. Many proposals also have a biocultural orientation. The program frequently serves as a bridge within NSF between the social and behavioral sciences and the natural and physical sciences, and proposals are commonly jointly reviewed and funded with other programs.

By promoting critical target validation studies within academic and industry laboratories, MJFF investments can help de-risk subsequent drug development and ultimately accelerate the creation of innovative therapies for Parkinson's patients. Part of our Edmond J. Safra Core Programs for PD Research, the Target Advancement program seeks to build robust evidence to rationalize biological pathways and targets for further translation into new Parkinson's treatments.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation believes that a major hurdle in the development of promising treatments for Parkinson's disease is the need for well-validated targets linked to the disease process. ASDS has taken a prospective approach to positively affecting the future of the specialty of dermatologic surgery in recommending research on Board-directed topics. The intended result of Board-directed research is data that will help promote dermatologic surgeons as innovators, foster public awareness of dermatologic surgeons as experts, support ASDS positions on patient safely and regulatory issues, etc. Evidence-based and comparative effectiveness research is called for as well. By facilitating research in specific areas, ASDS will be able to further position itself as a catalyst for key findings in dermatologic surgery, and you can play an integral role.
