The purpose of the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities, including international activities, to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities, and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act).

This grant program awards stipends to graduate students to conduct research on ways to improve the disability determination process for SSA's two disability programs - Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).  The application processes for SSI and SSDI are complex, and members of the public with health problems and economic hardships often find it difficult to navigate this process.  PRI hopes to improve the efficiency and reduce the complexity of disability determination processes by facilitating innovative research through stipends to a broad spectrum of graduate students and by allowing those students to access technical information on SSA disability program operations from disability experts.  In exchange, PRI expects students to produce a thesis or written product by June 30, 2014.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits Research and Development Center (P30) grant applications in the areas of demography and economics of aging, including relevant interdisciplinary areas rooted in population-based social science research. Center grant applications must include two mandatory Cores and may choose among four optional Cores.

Another purpose of the FI Projects program is to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. In carrying out a research activity under an FI Projects research grant, a grantee must identify one or more hypotheses or research questions and, based on the hypotheses or research questions identified, perform an intensive, systematic study directed toward producing (1) new scientific knowledge, or (2) better understanding of the subject, problem studied, or body of knowledge. Please note that this will be the funding opportunity for FI Research proposals.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites applications for the next five-year cycle of the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS), the leading nationally representative, longitudinal data resource in the US for research on trends, dynamics, and disparities in late-life disability, and for studies of the social and economic consequences of late-life disability for individuals, families and society, including caregiving and end-of-life issues. NHATS has conducted seven annual rounds of data collection to date (an eighth round is in process) and is linked to the separately funded National Study of Caregiving (NSOC). The goals of the next cycle are to: 1) Continue the current structure and design elements of NHATS; 2) Permit studies of long-term trends in disability prevalence; 3) Enrich measurement of cognitive capacity; 4) Enhance measurement of physical activity and sedentary behavior; 5) Continue linkages with administrative records; and 6) Augment data dissemination and user support.

The AARP Foundation works to end senior poverty by helping vulnerable older adults build economic opportunity and social connectedness. The Foundation has issued the following Requests for Applications (RFAs): The Increasing Social Connectedness for Older Adults RFA will support nonprofit organizations with innovative solutions to bring to scale proven approaches that increase social support and connectedness among low-income older adults. The Tackling Senior Food Insecurity RFA will support nonprofit organizations with innovative solutions to bring to scale proven approaches that increase food security for low-income older adults. The purpose of NIDILRR's Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP), which are funded through the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program, is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities, including international activities, to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities, and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act). Under this particular DRRP priority, applicants must propose a development project that is aimed at improving technology solutions to improve assistive technology to promote independence and community living outcomes of people with disabilities. NIDILRR plans to make three DRRP awards under this grant competition. For this grant competition we are inviting both research applications and development applications. This funding opportunity is designed to enable legal assistance networks, including Older Americans Act-funded programs, in strengthening and enhancing legal assistance programs to older Americans with economic and social need. Cooperative agreements under this funding opportunity announcement (FOA), Legal Assistance Enhancement Program (LAEP), will be dedicated to identifying and executing enhancements and innovations that improve the quality, effectiveness, accessibility, and availability of legal assistance offered to older Americans, consistent with the fundamental principles of the Administration for Community Living (ACL). Enhancements made through this funding opportunity will support quantifiable and sustainable improvements to the delivery of a full-range of legal assistance, from legal advice through representation to older adults.

The mission of the Administration for Community Living (ACL) Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program is to empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse. Through outreach, counseling, and education, the SMP program increases awareness and understanding of health care programs to protect Medicare beneficiaries from the economic and health-related consequences associated with Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. ACL currently provides grant funding to support 53 SMP projects, including grantees in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. The SMP projects use this funding to provide local outreach, education, and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries through a trained volunteer workforce. SMP projects teach Medicare beneficiaries to protect their Medicare numbers, to detect billing discrepancies on their quarterly Medicare Summary Notice statements, and to report suspicious activity for further investigation. In addition, SMP projects actively disseminate fraud prevention and identification information through the media, outreach campaigns, and community events.

The goal of the Hillman Innovations in Care Program is to advance leading edge, nursing-driven models of care that will improve the health and health care of vulnerable populations, including the economically disadvantaged, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ people, the homeless, rural populations, and other groups that encounter barriers to accessing quality health care services. We seek bold, evidence-based, patient- and family-centered approaches that challenge conventional strategies, improve health outcomes, lower costs, and show potential for national replicability. Under this particular DRRP priority, the objective is to improve long-term health outcomes of people with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The grantee will conduct research at the intervention-development stage, to directly inform and shape the development of chronic disease management approaches for meeting the complex and varied health care needs of people with TBI.

As AARP's charitable affiliate, the foundation makes grants to organizations working to advance evidence-based projects that can become sustainable and practical solutions to the challenges facing low-income older adults.

The purpose of the Mentored Quantitative Research Career Development Award (K25) is to attract to NIH-relevant research those investigators whose quantitative science and engineering research has thus far not been focused primarily on questions of health and disease. The K25 award will provide support and "protected time" for a period of supervised study and research for productive professionals with quantitative (e.g., mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, imaging science, informatics, physics, chemistry) and engineering backgrounds to integrate their expertise with NIH-relevant research. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for applicants proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or an ancillary clinical trial. Applicants to this FOA are permitted to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor. Applicants proposing a clinical trial or an ancillary clinical trial as lead investigator, should apply to the companion FOA ().

The Retirement Research Foundation (RRF) recently approved a strategic plan that reaffirms our continuing commitment to improve the quality of life for older people. A centerpiece of our plan is the establishment of four priority areas in aging. Beginning in 2020, these four areas will be given higher priority within the Foundation's grantmaking program: Caregiving Economic Security in Later Life Housing Social and Intergenerational Connectedness Each priority area will afford RRF an opportunity to fund innovative and effective projects that support the ability of older people to live fully in community settings. While the priority areas reflect RRF's primary funding interests, we will remain open to considering compelling applications on other topics on a selective basis.

Purpose The purpose of this FOA is to support a network to enhance collaborations across NIA's 6 centers programs. These collaborations are intended to leverage NIA's substantial investments by fostering and sustaining the development of novel interdisciplinary efforts in aging research. This opportunity will provide resources to build additional infrastructure and establish specific collaborative activities that could include, but are not limited to, information and data exchange, meetings and conferences, pilot studies, research opportunities for early investigators, visiting scholar programs, dissemination, and other collaborative efforts. As advances in one area have the potential to address obstacles to progress in another area, numerous opportunities exist for collaborations across different centers programs. However, these opportunities have been realized to only a limited degree to date.

This Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is intended to promote behavioral and social research on the dementia care workforce and the impact on outcomes for persons living with Alzheimer's disease or Alzheimer's disease-related dementia (AD/ADRD) and their families. Broad areas of interest include (1) how economic and policy factors drive the composition and quality of the dementia care workforce; (2) demographic and familial factors that influence demand for and supply of dementia care workers; (3) training and certification effects on quality and retention of dementia care workers; and (4) the development of data resources required to study these issues.
