The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to stimulate clinical research focused on biobehavioral or technological interventions to attenuate cognitive decline in individuals with dementia (such as Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body dementia, vascular dementia), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), or disease- or age-related cognitive decline. There is particular interest in interventions that can be implemented in community settings by the affected individual, informal caregivers, or others in the community. Research to inform the development of such interventions is also of interest, as well as research examining underlying mechanisms and biomarkers associated with response to interventions. It is anticipated that the results of this research will help affected individuals maintain independence and quality of life, improve their ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), and additionally help to reduce stress, burden, and other poor outcomes in their caregivers. This initiative will provide two years of support for planning activities necessary for initiating a Phase III clinical trial designed to validate VCID biomarkers and/or treat patients with VCID. The full spectrum of VCID is in scope, and the one or more VCID disorders(s) to be targeted in the trial must be clearly specified in the application, for example (but not limited to): vascular insults including clinical stroke, silent infarcts and microinfarcts, leukoaraiosis, cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), transient ischemic attack (TIA), micro-bleeds, CADASIL, and vascular contributions to Alzheimers dementia. Planning activities may include identifying trial sites/collaborations, designing trial protocols and procedures, and addressing regulatory approvals.

Purpose The purpose of this FOA is to support a network to enhance collaborations across NIA's 6 centers programs. These collaborations are intended to leverage NIA's substantial investments by fostering and sustaining the development of novel interdisciplinary efforts in aging research. This opportunity will provide resources to build additional infrastructure and establish specific collaborative activities that could include, but are not limited to, information and data exchange, meetings and conferences, pilot studies, research opportunities for early investigators, visiting scholar programs, dissemination, and other collaborative efforts. The successful awardee will involve all 6 centers programs. Background The National Institute on Aging supports 6 research centers programs: Alzheimer's Disease Centers Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Centers (OAICs) Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research (RCMARs) Edward R. Roybal Centers for Translation Research in the Behavioral and Social Sciences of Aging Centers on the Demography and Economics of Aging These programs, comprised of over 80 individual centers across the US, are highly productive hubs of research activity that are advancing the science of aging in their individual areas of focus. As advances in one area have the potential to address obstacles to progress in another area, numerous opportunities exist for collaborations across different centers programs. However, these opportunities have been realized to only a limited degree to date.

This FOA invites applications that propose to develop novel research infrastructure that will advance the science of aging in specific areas requiring interdisciplinary partnerships or collaborations. This FOA will use the NIH Phased Innovation Award (R21/R33) mechanism to provide up to 2 years of R21 support for initial developmental activities, and up to 3 years of R33 support for expanded activities. Through this award, investigators will develop a sustainable research infrastructure to support projects that address key interdisciplinary aging research questions.

Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) allotments for States are based on formula provisions contained in WIOA (see Training and Employment Guidance Letter (TEGL) No. 27-16, Attachment B for WIOA and Wagner-Peyser formula descriptions). The Act waives the competition requirement contained in WIOA secs. 127(b)(1)(B)(ii), 132(b)(1)(A)(ii), and 132(b)(2)(A)(ii) regarding funding to outlying areas (i.e., American Samoa, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of Palau, and the United States Virgin Islands). For Program Year (PY) 2017, outlying area grant amounts will be based on the administrative formula determined by the Secretary that was used under Workforce Investment Act. Attachment E to the TEGL provides the PY 2017 Adult Activities State Allotments, and a State- by-State comparison of the PY 2017 allotments to PY 2016 allotments.

The Administration for Community Living (ACL)/U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA) is providing this competitive grant opportunity to eligible entities for the purpose of establishing and providing ongoing technical assistance and support and build upon past advancements and innovations in serving this older LGBT individuals through new, efficient and sustainable approaches for ensuring high quality and culturally competent service delivery. Under this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), ACL/AoA plans to fund one (1) cooperative agreement at a federal funding level of up to $295,540 per year for two (2) years, pending the availability of Federal funds. Applicants to this FOA must demonstrate the capacity to work at the national level to provide training, technical assistance and support to aging network entities (State Units on Aging, Area Agencies on Aging, service providers), LGBT organizations, and older LGBT consumers. Further, applicants must demonstrate the support and active involvement of a range of stakeholders sufficiently broad so as to ensure that all requirements outlined in this FOA are addressed.

The purpose of this FOA is to disseminate and implement existing evidence for improving the quality of health care delivery. Applicants are required to demonstrate the ability and commitment to leverage the capacities of existing broad-based networks of providers and other key stakeholders in their dissemination and implementation activities.

The purpose of this initiative is to stimulate research in promoting caregiver health using self-management.  Caregiving is an important science area since the number of people living longer with chronic conditions is growing.  Informal caregivers (lay caregivers) are defined as unpaid individuals (spouses, partners, family members, friends, or neighbors) involved in assisting others with activities of daily living and/or medical tasks.  Formal caregivers are paid, delivering care in one's home or care settings (daycare, residential care facility).  This concept focuses on informal caregivers.

As part of broader university-wide diversity and inclusion efforts, the Office of the President and the Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship (OARS) have issued a special call for proposals to conduct research, scholarship, or creative activities in the areas of social justice, human rights, diversity, and inclusion. Proposals may be submitted in any of these areas, but must address a scholarly question that will lead to testable objectives or measurable outcomes.

Demonstration project grants will fund single HIAs to inform a specific proposed policy, program, plan, or project. The Health Impact Project will award up to six demonstration project grants for up to $100,000 each and. provide training and technical assistance to awardees throughout the length of each demonstration project grant. Applicants need not have prior HIA experience; preference will go to applicants proposing innovative topics for HIAs or proposing work in states and regions that have seen relatively little HIA activity to date. This includes U.S. territories and Alabama, Arkansas, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.  HIA program grants will support organizations with prior HIA experience to conduct one or more new HIAs and to implement a plan that establishes the relationships, systems, and funding mechanisms needed to maintain a stable HIA program beyond the conclusion of the grant period. The Health Impact Project will fund up to five program grants for up to $250,000 each.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit innovative social, behavioral, health services, and policy research that can directly and demonstrably contribute to the elimination of health disparities. Projects may involve primary data collection or secondary analysis of existing datasets. Projects that examine understudied health conditions; examine the effectiveness of interventions, services, or policies for multiple health disparity populations; and/or directly measure the impact of project activities on levels of health disparities are particularly encouraged.

The Mentor award will be presented to an individual who has consistently provided support, guidance, and strong direction to undergraduate and graduate students in aging and adult development. This individual might be someone who resides at a liberal arts institution or college that focuses on undergraduate education or it may be an individual at a PhD-granting institution. This award will be given to the individual who has been most actively committed to mentoring and who best exemplifies the qualities identified with strong, effective mentoring.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Investigator-Initiated Small Research Grant (R03) funding opportunity supports small research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources. The R03 activity code supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows program provides the nation's most comprehensive fellowship experience at the nexus of health science, policy and politics in Washington, D.C. It is an outstanding opportunity for exceptional midcareer health professionals and behavioral and social scientists with an interest in health and health care policy promoting the health of the nation. Fellows participate in the policy process at the federal level and use that leadership experience to improve health, health care and health policy. The fellowship requires, at a minimum, a 12-month residential experience in Washington, D.C., with additional support for health policy leadership development activities. The program will select up to six fellows.

The Maxwell A. Pollack Award for Productive Aging recognizes instances of practice informed by research and analysis, research that directly improved policy or practice, and distinction in bridging the worlds of research and practice. An individual who is mid-career and actively engaged in the conception and development of innovative programs that demonstrate excellence in translating research into practical application or policy is eligible for this award. The individual should be visionary in his/her approach to meeting current and critical needs of an older population in new and creative ways. The award is presented at the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting. The awardee will also be expected to give a presentation about the program for which the award was received. The award includes cash, certificate and a symbolic emblem totaling $8,000. Travel expenses to defray airfare and one day per diem will be reimbursed for the awardee not to exceed $750. Airfare will be calculated at the supersaver economy rate and hotel at the GSA convention rate. This award is funded by the New York Community Trust through a generous gift from Maxwell A. Pollack Fund.

In September, Miami received notice from the government that our new F&A rates are: 44.5% for On Campus Organized Research 44.0% On Campus Sponsored Instruction 39.0% On Campus Other Sponsored Activities 26.0% Off Campus All Programs These rates are effective beginning September 1, 2014. Awards received beginning in September and all proposal submissions going forward will be required to use the new rates.

The purpose of the Field Initiated (FI) Projects program is to generate new knowledge through research or to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities. Another purpose of the FI Projects program is to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. In carrying out a research activity under an FI Projects research grant, a grantee must identify one or more hypotheses or research questions and, based on the hypotheses or research questions identified, perform an intensive, systematic study directed toward producing (1) new scientific knowledge, or (2) better understanding of the subject, problem studied, or body of knowledge. Please note that this will be the funding opportunity for FI Research proposals.

In carrying out a development activity under an FI Projects development grant, a grantee must use knowledge and understanding gained from research to create materials, devices, systems, methods, measures, techniques, tools, prototypes, processes, or intervention protocols, that are beneficial to the target population. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites applications for the next five-year cycle of the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS), the leading nationally representative, longitudinal data resource in the US for research on trends, dynamics, and disparities in late-life disability, and for studies of the social and economic consequences of late-life disability for individuals, families and society, including caregiving and end-of-life issues. NHATS has conducted seven annual rounds of data collection to date (an eighth round is in process) and is linked to the separately funded National Study of Caregiving (NSOC). The goals of the next cycle are to: 1) Continue the current structure and design elements of NHATS; 2) Permit studies of long-term trends in disability prevalence; 3) Enrich measurement of cognitive capacity; 4) Enhance measurement of physical activity and sedentary behavior; 5) Continue linkages with administrative records; and 6) Augment data dissemination and user support.
