This FOA invites applications from multidisciplinary teams to perform secondary data analysis, using existing datasets from two or more multi-site clinical research projects, to address scientific and clinical hypotheses relevant to neurological disorders and conditions within the NINDS mission. In this phased funding mechanism, applications are required to systematically and comprehensively perform cross-project data harmonization and curation, assessed using Go/No-go data-quality metrics, prior to funding of the second phase of data analyses. Consistent with the FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable) data principles, this funding opportunity expects open-source cataloging of the processes and tools used for harmonization, curation, and analysis, as well as controlled access to the curated datasets.

Once established, type 1 diabetes (T1D) requires daily insulin administration and episodes of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia are common. As a result, patients with T1D without adequate control may suffer devastating acute complications such as life-threatening hypoglycemia and ketoacidosis and long term complications including accelerated cardiac and peripheral vascular diseases, nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, amputation and premature death. Studies such as the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) and the UK Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) have shown that long term microvascular and macrovascular complications can be reduced through tight blood glucose control. However, the increased risk of hypoglycemia that is associated with tight control and the limitations of current glucose control technologies make tight control difficult to achieve. Thus, there is a need for tools to help more people with T1D to safely achieve and sustain tight blood glucose control and reduce burden of care.

The intent of the FY19 PRARP CSRA is to support innovative or novel efforts to generate research resources, tools, or research efforts for researchers and/or practitioners in health sciences related to the PRARP's mission (see Section II.A, Program Description). The proposed work should innovatively challenge existing research paradigms or exhibit high levels of creativity within the contexts of the PRARP's mission and vision. The research innovations for the FY19 PRARP CSRA are expected to benefit the military, Veteran, and civilian communities. FY19 PRARP CSRA applications should be Innovation- and Impact-based.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages research to develop task-based behavioral measures that are shown to engage brain systems relevant to anhedonia using neuroimaging or other brain measures with similar spatial resolution. The goal is to identify behavioral tasks that can be used as quantitative tools in future studies of the functional constructs associated with anhedonia and in treatment development. This FOA is for basic science experimental studies involving human participants that fall within the NIH definition of a clinical trial and also meet the definition of basic research. Types of studies that should submit under this FOA include studies that prospectively assign human participants to conditions (i.e., experimentally manipulate independent variables) and that assess biomedical or behavioral outcomes in humans for the purpose of understanding the fundamental aspects of brain function in healthy individuals or those with disorders.

To that end, the foundation is inviting applications for innovative research with the potential to increase the basic understanding of these uncommon tumors and lead to the development of more effective therapies. Grants ranging between $100,000 to $1.2 million will be awarded in support of projects over one to four years in the areas of basic, translational, or clinical neuroendocrine cancer research. Four different grants will be awarded: Accelerator Award - Grants of up to $1.2 million over four years will be awarded to projects that bring together investigators from diverse scientific disciplines. Investigator Awards - Grants of up to $300,000 over two years will be awarded to investigators and teams with the tools to study neuroendocrine cancers in innovative and transformative ways. Pilot Awards - Grants of up to $100,000 over one year will be awarded for pilot studies. Mentored Awards - Grants of up to $120,000 over two years will be awarded to encourage early-career investigators to pursue neuroendocrine tumor research and make a commitment to the field.

Applications should focus on studies that achieve one or more of the following: - In vivo imaging of brain neurofilaments of 4R tau and alpha-synuclein pathology that could be useful as biomarkers of the presence of disease and disease progression and as pharmacodynamic tools for drug development for tauopathies or synucleinopathies - Structure- and ligand-based drug design approaches that use state-of-art computational methods such as the high resolution Cryo-EM structures of disease-relevant tau and alpha-synuclein fibrils and existing Structure Activity Relationship (SAR) on known tau PET ligands or alpha-synuclein PET ligands that are in development We are especially interested in projects to develop alpha-synuclein and tau tracers in parallel.

This prize is awarded to an individual for outstanding research in the field of behavioral neurology. Applicants should have a strong desire to expand the field of behavioral neurology through research.

Must have carried out independent research (clinical or basic) in the field of neuroendocrinology. Work must demonstrate a major point in neuroendocrinological science for any of the following: Pathophysiology/basic mechanisms Treatment paradigms Illustrations of major comorbidity

Encouraged from Small Business Concerns (SBCs) are Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant applications that propose to further develop, make more robust, and make more user-friendly such technologies in preparation for commercial dissemination. It is expected that this activity will require partnerships and close collaboration between the original developers of these technologies and SBCs, which may be accomplished in any of a number of ways, including the use of multiple program directors/principal investigators.
