bored of PowerPoint? For years, Microsoft PowerPoint has been the standard bearer of slide presentation applications, but several Web-based alternatives have emerged. For the most part, the alternatives offer similar functionality to PowerPoint, sometimes more, sometimes less. One obvious advantage to Web-based presentations is that they're stored in the cloud, eliminating the potential for nightmare scenarios involving lost or corrupted thumb drives.

When Drop.io announced that they had sold out to Facebook and would be shutting down effective on December 15th, I immediately shared that news with you. One of the services offered by Drop.io that I'm really going to miss is their hidden upload tool which allowed you to have others submit files to your drop. For the last couple of years I used Drop.io's hidden uploader to collect assignments from students.

These no-cost products are specifically designed to make your life easier and less stressful. Some have been around for years and others are relatively new-but they will all do their part to boost your productivity.

New website, still quite empty but will share resources

his activity will be spread over at least a week. It combines skills from both the language and ICT programmes of study and is ideal for years 5 and 6. After introducing what an auction is, pupils produce a professional-looking auction catalogue and then hold their own auction with a bid limit of 50p. The spreadsheet is set up to automatically analyse and graph sales patterns in the auction. The session ends with an antiques quiz.

The units of inquiry in this publication have been developed by Primary Years Programme (PYP) educators and trialled in IB World Schools. The examples included are intended to support teachers in developing and documenting units of inquiry from their own school's programme of inquiry as well as those outside the programme of inquiry. Some of the units are based on central ideas documented in the PYP sample programme of inquiry included in Developing a transdisciplinary programme of inquiry (2008). Have used two of these and they are pretty damn useful. Grade 5-6 you will be into these next year. Anyone tried Stupeflix or One true let me know.

Did these with the grade 7's last year they are cool, the AR Augmented Reality is very clever!

2011 is the fourth year I've been using an iPod Touch in my classroom. My students enjoy using these hand held devices and they can be used to enhance student learning in many different areas.

Even though Google now offers ten times more services for Google Apps for Education than they did at the beginning of the year, they still don't have a gradebook service. But the next best thing is a new offering from the free online gradebook system LearnBoost (previously reviewed here and here). LearnBoost can now be integrated into your Google Apps for Education account. LearnBoost can be found here in the Google Apps Marketplace.

Google Forms is a great tool and I hope to use it more throughout this year. Take a look here for a more detailed introduction and guide to using and creating a Google Form - this was written prior to Google bringing forms into the NEW menu. I have created example forms for each of the different topics, follow the links in each of the ten sections. With help from a Googler I have included a link so that you can get your own copy of the form - click on the appropriate link and it should open in your docs home.

A good read as we come to the end of this year. What did our Blogs end up as? what would we do the same, or differently?

Looks very flash and shiny! Will try with the Grade 7's for end of Year.

Let me know what you think! This year, we would like to find even more primary sources in every country that our learners choose to investigate. Rather than a formal class structure, it would be great to see them in small groups talking via Skype to as many people as possible. We'd love to have them engaging with students in other countries and continuing to connect with them after the initial interviews. It would be great to see them work collaboratively on Google Maps to which they add photos, information, questions and new learning. Hopefully they will use their class blogs to reflect on what they learn and to record their wonderings, so that people 'out there' can respond.
