40 top podcasts for teachers For that long commute into school?

The possibilities for social media tools in the classroom are vast. In the hands of the right teacher, they can be used to engage students in creative ways, encourage collaboration and inspire discussion among even soft-spoken students. But we've already made our case for why teachers should consider using social media in their classrooms. What about the how?

You can't swing a stick in social media without hitting something on Facebook. Same goes for education. You can't talk about how technology is revolutionizing education without mentioning Facebook. It's a simple service to figure out but what about once you become a regular user? If you're a teacher, you would be well served by spending 3 minutes to read through this must-have guide. In Creating a Techno-Tale in iMovie Silvia outlines and gives directions for using iMovie to record a book-style movie in which students use their voices to narrate the story. "A school leader is always on the go. She needs to stay connected, have access to existing digital media, create new media, collaborate, and communicate. An iPad is a great tool that allows users to have their email, calendar, communication tools, newsfeeds, presentations, teacher/student interaction documentation, and notes all on one small device! The number of apps can be overwhelming, so I always suggest having your main productivity apps on the first screen. Move your secondary, less important, and entertainment apps to a separate screen. Let's create a digital backpack with your iPad."

for those ipad teachers out there

Some teachers in my Flat Classroom Certified Teacher Class are talking about this.  Looks interesting.

Broadcastr is a new site that lets you record audio for up to three minutes and then "attach" it to a map location. It also gives you the url address of your recording. This could be a great resource for English Language Learners and all students. They could write, and then record, reflections from a field trip, describe their home countries, talk about something that happened in a particular place in a work of fiction, and then attach it to that geographical location. In addition to being there for an "authentic audience" (someone other than their teacher and classmates), the link to the recording can be posted on a student/teacher blog or website.

Teachers are finding new ways to use Twitter to engage their students, build stronger academic and professional relationships, and to share information in a richer learning environment, and they are using tools like these to bring more fun and functionality to the process.
