"Not all books are good for easy listening. Audio books on goal setting and motivation lend themselves well to listening while walking. That's not to say you can't enjoy an audio narration of a novel or even a bit of poetry."

I had two eye-opening experiences this week, both really got me thinking about online sharing, curation of digital versus "real" work (E-portfolios) , and overall student learning, both in terms of motivation for and expressions of. The first was the grade 10 MYP Personal Project exhibition, the second my daughter, Kaia's, student-led conference for her PYP Kindergarten class.

Using captioned videos for English as a second language or ESL - 0 views

  •
We recently found out that 22frames.com is becoming a popular site for learning English as a second/foreign language (ESL/EFL). It turns out that watching captioned videos provides a way to not only learn formal and informal English, but also cultural concepts. To find videos, you can browse through categories or make caption-only video searches on your interests. Even more, we have been devoting significant time and resources to developing specific features for English learning and teaching that are motivated by our users' feedback

EdTech Toolbox: Student Designed E-books: Challenge Based Learning - 0 views

  • Martin said... Fantastic project Greg and thanks for sharing. Our grade 6 and 7 students in West Vancouver are just now completing a year-long magazine publishing project. Each student selected a topic of interest and throughout the year they have been taught various writing and publishing techniques. We have partnered with a local university graphic design department and their first year design students have been assisting our students with their layout and design, to produce dramatic publications. Our students have been so motivated the entire year. Giving the students choice and a bit of freedom to experiment and collaborate has been enlightening. We really have noticed a significant level of engagement and ownership with all students, including some boys who are not that keen to write. Our completed magazines will be posted on our ISSUU site http://issuu.com/mandrews. Several samples have been posted.
