Digital Literacy: Skills for the 21st Century: Introduction - 0 views

  •
This Digital Literacy Toolkit began with the premise that multimedia authoring, which is happening with the extensive use of PowerPoint in classrooms, must be taught as a skill, just as traditional text-based writing is taught. While teachers and students have become familiar with the technical skills required to use images in multimedia productions, they lack a critical language to determine whether an image or a sound is used appropriately.

Free Technology for Teachers: Simple Lessons in Saving and Borrowing Money - 0 views

  •
Simple Lessons in Saving and Borrowing Money Bank Jr. is an educational banking website designed for elementary school students. I discovered Bank Jr. through Donna Murray's excellent blog. Bank Jr. is an interactive website on which students can learn the in's and out's of banking. Bank Jr. has a glossary of terms, a help center, and savings wizards. Bank Jr. also provides students with a history of money and a look at how different countries use money. The teachers section of Bank Jr. provides an extensive glossary of terms and some lesson ideas. Bank Jr. does not provide full-length, detailed lesson plans, but it does provide PDF's of worksheets and handouts that teachers may find useful for teaching banking lessons.

Cool Math Games - The world's most popular eductional website! - Thinking games and puz... - 0 views

Despite its name, not all the content on CoolMath.com is directly related to Math. In fact, their tag line is 'Math and Thinking games'. The Cool Math games site, (www.coolmath-games.com), has many great online games for gifted children. Take, for example, the ever popular Bloxorz, the Lemonade Stand Game, or Bloons Tower Defense. Each are maddeningly fun and addictive, but each are also designed to engage the thinking skills of gifted learners. Many teachers quickly turn to Cool Math when they are looking for extension activities for their fast finishers, and now you can too. Everything on the site is free to use. Smart-Kit: Online Puzzles & Games - 0 views

As the self-styled 'puzzle playground' Smart-Kit.com offers plenty of opportunities for your students to explore and flex their mental muscles. There are some great games here that really set it apart from the other sites on this list. For instance, the physics games are very good, the adventure games are taxing, and the quick thinking games really give students the opportunity to perform under pressure. There are even some IQ test questions here that can be used as problems of the day or extension work. Some of my favorite brain games on this site are Truck Loader, Trafficator, and the amazing Little Wheel. Read more: http://www.brighthub.com/education/k-12/articles/106947.aspx#ixzz1EGaRJ6xx
