Earth day- Games for kids - 0 views

shared by Maddy Scheck on 25 Apr 11 - Cached

This website has 10 games you can use with your students on earthday. Since it was recently Earthday, I decided this would be an appropriate topic. I think it is important that young students use computers and play games occasionally, especially when it is helping them learn about something as important as our earth, and their computer skills.

I like this website because it has educational games for kids to play. I think its important for children to know how to use computers, and learning through an online game can be a fun effective way to do this.

UbD Template Description & Exemplar - 0 views

  •
Same website as listed prior to, but a different page link. I've heard a few people were having some trouble, just another example and explanation of the UbD template. Similar to the ones listed in the text and workbook, but thought the more resources available, the better!

This is a website that allows you to create worksheets for students. There are a variety of styles (word finds, learn-to-read books, puzzles, etc). It is primarily designed for younger students (K to 8 or so), but can be used for any grade. I use it to create sponge activities that reinforce the content of the lesson plan.

This is a great site for educators! There's a whole section on puzzle making, lesson plans, unit ideas, themes, worksheets, and more! Definitely check it out!

What is UbD? - 3 views

  •
This is the website I first used when I learned about UbD a couple years ago, as I was a bit confused after class. It does a great job of explaining things in layman's terms, and even non-educational lingo for other majors. Great to utilize when explaining, identifying, or attempting to identify UbD.

Following Directions Quiz - 1 views

  •
I use this as a lead-in to procedural writing. It is a 'trick' test - if you follow the directions, you don't actually do anything. Students are marked down (the grade doesn't count) for everything that appears on their paper beyond the month. I use it to illustrate the importance of: following directions by carefully reading all the information; and how to look at procedure.

Interesting online grammar resource - 0 views

  •
This is a fabulous, in-depth, yet student-accessible primer on grammar. I know, it was created by Canadians, but that's okay. I sometimes use their resources when discussing parts of speech and word interactions in class. Our students are increasingly digital; it helps to speak their language.

This website has a small but interesting list of ways to begin questions, categorized by which level of Bloom's taxonomy you are looking to work in. This link takes you immediately to the question starters, but the entire website is worth perusing if you have a moment.

This website has many many pages of interactive activities and lessons. Students can study story elements, idioms, pronunciations, reading, spelling, play games, all sorts of things. When you have a day with a CoW, or a day in a lab, you can have the students pick a lesson from a list, or you can print out a page and use it as a sponge activity.

Online Assessment Tools for Districts - 1 views

  •
Although, your school or district must set up the service for you, it is free, simply needs an inquiry from an official. I was able to register through my methods district (Pembroke Academy) and believe it's a great tool for teachers to utilize. I can demo the software in class if time, and Bill allows.
