Symphony of Science - 0 views

  •
he Symphony of Science is a musical project of John D Boswell, designed to deliver scientific knowledge and philosophy in musical form. The project owes its existence in large measure to the classic PBS Series Cosmos, by Carl Sagan, Ann Druyan, and Steve Soter, as well as all the other featured figures and visuals.

How to Use Twitter (and Why It's Not a Waste of Time) « Indiana Jen - 0 views

  • Oh Twitter… How misunderstood you are. You are the semi-colon of social media – people have an idea of your existence but many have not fully grasped your usefulness and beauty. I love twitter and find it immensely valuable for a myriad of reasons: yes, it can be a time waster, however, it can also be a news source, a way to gauge public sentiment, and even a research tool.

There's Something in the Air: Podcasting in Education (EDUCAUSE Review) | EDUCAUSE - 0 views

  • In a March 2005 podcast (http://weblog.infoworld.com/udell/2005/03/03.html), Jon Udell persuasively identified five major factors behind the explosive growth of podcasting and rich media authoring in general: Internet activity is pervasive. Broadband has grown very rapidly, which makes it far easier to “consume large media objects.” The multimedia personal computer can “more or less be taken for granted.” The “distinction between streaming and downloading of media content has begun to blur. . . . People can now have the experience of streaming while enjoying the simplicity . . . of downloading.” Finally, there is the iPod phenomenon and “the rapid adoption of portable MP3 playback devices”—up to eleven million devices in the United States alone. Udell calls the portable audio device “the new transistor radio” and points to the beginnings of a “renaissance of creative stuff happening.” Because this renaissance coincides with the Creative Commons phenomenon, traditional business models need not constrain the artist’s work.

ADHD in Elementary School: Classroom Interventions for Elementary School Teachers of AD... - 0 views

  •
"ADHD is most often recognized and referred for treatment in third grade. This is when elementary school kids most often hit the "academic wall." In third grade they are expected to do more and more work on their own, and they are given more homework to do as well. We also see many referrals in seventh grade, or when the child leaves Elementary School for Junior High School, with several classes and several teachers."

Revisiting Extra Credit Policies | Faculty Focus - 0 views

  •
"Here's how it works. The instructor attaches a blank piece of paper to the back of every exam. Students may write on that sheet any exam questions they couldn't answer or weren't sure they answered correctly. Students then take this piece of paper with them and look up the correct answers. They can use any resource at their disposal short of asking the instructor. At the start of the next class session, they turn in their set of corrected answers which the instructor re-attaches to their original exam. Both sets of answers are graded. If students missed the question on the exam but answered it correctly on the attached sheet, half the credit lost for the wrong answer is recovered."
