A paper introduces a conception of discussion forums as student centred peer e-learning environments. The proffered conception positions the student as expert/facilitator at the centre of the learning event and the instructor, one step removed from the process, as overseer of the dialogue.
Any teacher wanting to create their own illustrations or graphics for their class should watch this video. It breaks down complicated images into simple steps that can be created in Powerpoint.
Abstract
In something of a landmark for education Knowles (1970) suggested an important change in the way in which educational experiences for adults should be designed. The approach, known as andragogy, contrasts quite sharply with pedagogy which is the teaching of children. This paper suggests there is benefit in moving from andragogy towards truly self-determined learning. The concept of truly self-determined learning, called heutagogy, builds on humanistic theory and approaches to learning described in the 1950s. It is suggested that heutagogy is appropriate to the needs of learners in the twenty-first century, particularly in the development of individual capability. A number of implications of heutagogy for higher education and vocational education are discussed. top

This activity blends just the right amount of instruction, guidance and interactivity to teach some concepts of quadratic equations. Specifically it reinforces the concepts of the axis of symmetry and the vertex.
Addresses the popular conception of learning styles and the lack of empirical support for teaching to students' styles. Touches on the role of metacognition in learning. The references constitute a short list of key readings on the topic.
I was amazed at how intuitive and easy this tool is to use to create quizzes. I had spent hours creating a PowerPoint quiz, and minutes to create the same quiz using this tool. Plus I had much more flexibility in kinds of questions I created--and I can gather feedback any time I want to. There is a free trial version of this tool, and then one must purchase the rights to use the tool. Try it!
You can develop your own questions, use their test bank, or import your existing quizzes. You can select the order of the questions, indicate scores for passing, will show you their score at the completion of the quiz and reveal the correct answer to the questions. Very easy to follow. Almost no learning curve. I would definitely use this in an online class to assess students understanding of concepts covered. I would offer it either as a review or as a quiz itself.

I like to use this clip when teaching students about the Fifth Amendment. It's funny and sparks a great conversation about the media/society's conception of how and under what circumstances the Fifth Amendment is used. And it's fun! Enjoy!
When it comes to trying something new or looking into more tools. I believe I would like to do more research to see what other online instructors are doing. In this case, I found a great website called, eLearning Industry: www.elearningindustry.com. Here I can find articles written by online teaching professionals and for online teaching professionals. Also, the website is easy to navigate and always updated.
Hi Kathy, good solid article and my favorite part related to one of the pod casts that we were assigned for Module 4 this week in our TT class. DeMarias says that the synchronous on line class should not be a literal translation of the f2f and she suggests the same concept as this article: a reconceptualization of the course all together. My least favorite part of the article was that we are developing "digital citizens of tomorrow". I totally agree but the sound of it is so robotic. :)
These games would be a good review for students who are struggling with understanding the basic math concepts and who need some extra drills for reinforcement.
This resource is a place to share assessments, lesson plans, activities, and other tools for teaching information literacy concepts in higher education settings. There are a lot of ideas on how to use technology in our teaching.
