Alif Tree - French Cuisine (Compost Records, 2005) - 0 views

  •
I don't know if I would have been able to identify this as a European outing judging the album by the art work on the front, but I could have made a good guess. Even with the solid colored squares and circles that are displayed for the listener to see, the music, at least the first half of the album is engorged with European style electronic hip hop.

Interview with Devon Michael: "There's something about Devon" - 0 views

  •
If you like Ne Yo Drake, Jay-Z, and Kanye West, then you have to listen to the featured artist of the week with Devon Michael. The best part about Devon Michael is his originality. You get more than one speed of music from this album. It travels from great driving music, to the dance floor, to the street, and to the bedroom. It is impossible to get bored with this album, because there's is no one constant. It makes the listener wonder what the next song will bring. If you enjoy R&B and Hip Hop, you get the best of both worlds and it's impossible to just listen to once, in fact, you get hooked. Music Reading vs. Tablatures (Part 2) - 0 views

  •
There are plenty of resources available that give TABs to everyone's favorite song and they generally work fine if all you want to do is learn your favorite guitar riff. But my goal is to go beyond just copying somebody else's riff to the place of really understanding what music and guitar playing are really made up of. And in order to do that, I have to introduce basic music reading. Not that you are going to end up playing classical guitar concertos, but so that we could learn the "why" of music. I understand that it can be truly frustrating to go back and try to read the music to play these simple songs when you can already play somewhat better by reading the TABS. I have found that in my experience in teaching many adults in your situation just say "Forget it, it's too much work and I don't even sound that good when I read the music. I can play better just reading the TAB. Besides, who wants to learn how to play Yankee Doodle anyway?" So they quit trying to learn the music and just tell themselves that "Some people can read music and some can't and I am just one of those that can't."

Steve Krenz's Tutorial on Guitar Barre Chords [2 of 2] - 0 views

  •
Here's the deal. Barre chords take some time to bloom. At first you can try your hardest and you just don't have the muscles in place to get them to sound. It's a physical thing. It takes time to develop the muscles needed.

CAVE: A Built In Credence - 0 views

  •
Firstly, the use of the phrase "blissed-out" shouldn't simply be disallowed. Secondly, the term "soundscape" is a contrived, pseudo intellectual cop out for when writers don't have anything too valid to comment upon. And if you read anything from Pitchfork or the generally buoyant Brainwashed, you might run into those terms when exploring the new disc from Chicago's CAVE.
