Presentation on how to solve special timing problems on the marching band field

The Army's music is a source for several beneficial resources. You can find upcoming performances for all of the bands to find a performance closes to you. These bands include the active bands, Army Reserve Bands, National Guard bands, and the U.S. Army School of Music Band. Each band will also have smaller ensembles such as jazz bands and rock bands. The site also has recordings of the Army band performing some traditional ceremonial songs including marches, fanfares, and even bugle calls that are found on the music tab. This is very beneficial if you are are trying to perform a patriotic show or performing for the school's JROTC programs. There are pages for the National Anthem and The Army Song that provides the history of the songs as well as the lyrics and recordings. You can click on the songs titles to download mp3 files. The education tab is great because it has a list of U.S. Army Music Master Classes for every instrument and covers a wide range of topics. From basics and fundamentals to practicing to percussion. Master classes are added periodically. When you click on the title of the master class, a PDF will download. You can also request for a clinicians, clinic teams, master classes, or guest conductors to come out to your school. The only expense you might have to pay is for travel expenses if they are not in the area.

Drum corp is something that many high school students dream of becoming a part of.  Many students in marching bands around the world dream to become a DCI champion.  Vic Firth teamed up with the Cadets and have made videos with the music from their 2015 production, "The Power of 10" featuring the selection "Waltz".  Students can play along whether they are in the front ensemble, snare line, bass line, or tenor line.

John Philip Sousa was born in 1854 in Washington, D.C. and died in 1932. He worked as a theater musician and conducted the U.S. Marine Band before starting his own civilian band in 1892. Sousa toured with his band for 40 years and was indisputably the most famous musical act in the world. He composed 136 marches, 15 operettas, 70 songs and many other pieces.

This is a regular podcast that is a great resource for staying up to date with music pedagogy and instrument specific concerns. The podcasts address topics such as rehearsing beginning bands, choosing literature, classroom management and marching band.

Resource for band directors 

Banddirector.com offers a multitude of resources for instrumental educators. Band directors can contribute articles on various topics including fund raising, trips, and marching drill. The forums on this website allow educators to share best practices across multiple settings. This website would be most useful for instrumental educators. 

This website is a fantastic resource for band directors. Their are resources for marching, travel, fundraising, conducting, and product comparisons just to name a few. This site has just about anything a band director will ever need.

This site is the home to Huei-Yuan Pan - one the most influential marching percussion education specialists in the United States. The site offers media, lessons, sheet music, and links to Huei's educational social media pages

This site is meant to give quality opinions on the latest trends in education. PodOmatic includes podcast on certain music education and technology topics, videos of marching bands performing, and the ability to create your own podcast dealing with music issues. There are websites included that direct one other podcasts from followers of the website and educators.

The great Vic Firth. Ya site has so. Any resources for the modern percussionist and instructor, from concert technique to marching technique to drum set, This site has it all, with videos and podcasts that you can subscribe to.

This link provides information about the annual New England Band Directors Institute conference. This conference takes place in Plymouth, NH on the campus of Plymouth State University. The conference offers a variety of session on specific topics for bands, marching bands, and jazz bands. They also offer two reading sessions so directors may hear and experience new band music.

The Library of Congress website has a plethora of free historical recordings. For example, I found The Liberty Bell March from 1905. You should listen to the recordings in advance to check for inappropriate language. I think it would be very valuable to have authentic historical recordings for students to listen to, which would present the opportunity to discuss the history of recording music.

This website was developed to share and discuss the science of rudimental snare drumming.  You can also use this source to develop ideas for teaching and developing your marching percussion section.  Also included are common exercises that can be used.

Vic Firth's education resources include videos on all things percussion related.  There are video and audio clips regarding beginning snare drum/mallets, drum set, rudiments, concert percussion, and marching/world percussion.  This is a great resource for teachers and students.

Purpose of this resource: This website contains many educational videos, articles, and resources for educators and students about percussion playing technique and history. Musical Content: The Vic Firth Educator page contains fundamental playing technique for snare drum, keyboard percussion and drum set as well as demonstration videos, articles, and sequential playing exercises. There are also videos about instrument set up and maintenance. Other information: The resources on this page are geared toward both educator and student. Many of the music reading articles and exercises are also applicable to non-percussionists and can be readily adapted for classroom use.

Aside from quality percussion equipment, Vic Firth provides a wealth of information on percussion education. The site includes videos, articles, and pdf's of exercises as well if needed.  

IHSMA is the hub for music education in the state of Iowa. IHSMA runs state functioned events such as Large group festivals (marching band, concert band and choir, jazz band and choir, show choir), solo and ensemble contest, and the All-State Music Festival. IHSMA provides guidelines and rules directors should follow regarding all of these events. IHSMA also provides professional development for all music educators across the state, regardless of position.

This article discusses many things but directly makes the point that the quality of music in schools has decreased. It disuses the fact that marching band is a key component of a musicians life. It also discusses the 'nuts and blots" of being a band director and the preparation that needs to take place.

This site has a lot of great material for brass and percussion. I have used them in the past for a few items (range builders, breathing exercises, drum heads). Affordable items and a very good resource for music teachers.
