The project radio aporee maps was started in 2006. it is a global soundmap dedicated to phonography, field recording (and related practices) and the art of listening. it connects sound recordings and places, in order to create a sonic cartography, open to the public as a collaborative project. It contains recordings from numerous urban, rural and natural environments, showing their audible complexity, as well as the different perceptions, practices and artistic perspectives of its many contributors, related to sound, public and private spaces, listening and sense of place.

The article discusses a new app that was created to improve or teach improvisation concepts using loops on any particular scale.

This is a fun website/tool where woodwind players/students can create their own fingering chart.  It is also another way to assess students on knowing their fingerings for their instrument.  There are a number of ways to change the chart in size and color.  

This is an educational website, but you don't have to be in a school or university to use it. It takes as its model Kutiman's brilliant thru-you.com site, where he made seven new songs by remixing bits of video shared on YouTube. Included here for free are video tutorials which will show you how to create a basic remix just with the software that comes free on a Mac, or is available free on the internet. Windows users may be able to get the same results with Acid by Sony.

A great group that covers a lot of contemporary songs, often creating mash ups with Western classical pieces. Don't be fooled! They play piano and cello and sometimes sing.

This site offers subscription and free access to music theory and ear training exercises. If you subscribe you can check your students' scores, organize assessments, and create assignments online. Students can access the site through any mobile device. You can access the exercises for free - areas covered include sight-reading, theory, and ear training for intervals and chords.

This collection of videos is a great resource to use during general music classes when introducing instruments of the orchestra. This is a great way to get students interested in the different instrument families. It offers a great deal of information on the instrument, how it works, and even gives students examples of how to create their own instrument using found objects.

Sound trap is an online Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that one can use to create loops and tracks online. One doesn't need to download any software to install sound trap, it is typically online and is a very good resource for teaching creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking (4 Cs). I like sound trap because it enables students and teachers to continue work anywhere any time (in and outside the classroom). Teachers can easily add projects and invite students to work on the project any time anywhere. The fact that one can invite another person to work on the same project and/or even record a track together is mesmerizing. With sound trap, it is easy to record any instrument, download a track, and best of all, you can record using a microphone and/or use the free loops, MIDI, and effects that come with the software. A school has to purchase the software and add students to start using it. However, the software has a one month free trial which teachers can try out with their students before purchasing.

I have found this website useful countless times!  You can search generally or specifically for pre made presentations for SmartNotebook that you can then download and edit as you wish to fit your own classroom needs.  It could be used in any type of music classroom.

For anyone that has a Smart Board available in their classroom this website it great for finding ways to enhance your music teaching. This website gives available programs and ways that you can use your Smart Board to teach lessons.

Kahoot.com is a user-friendly free website for all educators to use in the classroom. It is fun way to interact and assess the student knowledge of content. Kahoot quizzes can be created by a user, and quizzes can be shared other users. The quizzes can be formatted differently to keep the game fun and exciting such as, which student gets the most right, or who is the first to answer. The website is free, but with an upgrade and small annual payment, there are a few more benefits to the site.

Wakelet is a great resource to use when creating a very basic website. Each collection serves as a page and follows the format of a newsfeed. Students are able to access the material at home and can practice what was done in class. This source can deal with whatever musical content you choose to post.

This page offers different curriculum maps for elementary school. Katie's curriculum can help a teacher plan their year out better of give ideas on how to format their year. The curriculum maps can also serve as models when creating your own curriculum map. The website also offers grant writing tips, PD opportunities, classroom design, and music center/game resources.

This website introduces students to instruments of the orchestra, and allows students to create in the music lab. This would work well with elementary students.

Fun website that allows you to play the drums using the keys on your keyboard- this would be a great way to introduce students to creating rhythms and patterns.

Large selection of ear training games that each specifically focus on one aspect of listening (pitch, voice matching, instrumentation, chords, etc.) Some are free, some are free with creating an account, and many have more levels that can be paid for. This site also has ear training "courses" to help improve this musical skill.

The Kidzone by the New York Philharmonic is an interactive website for children to use to learn primarily about instruments, composers, and famous musicians. It includes games, videos, audio recordings, and text. Students can interact with games that allow them to match rhythms, sort instruments into families, build an instrument, create a graphic-based composition, and match instruments and composers. There is also information about children's concerts.

This is an awesome resource that's student-friendly and focuses on instruments of the orchestra, as well as composers. It creates a strong connection between concept and real-world scenarios. The website is designed around the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. There are engaging and interactive games and lessons for students to learn about the orchestra and test their knowledge.

Very engaging and visually appealing website from the New York Philharmonic. Unfortunately many of the links would not work; however, one really cool feature is that there are recordings of symphony performances that can be viewed in a classroom. Much better quality of video than many available videos on YouTube.
