UCLA TV Violence Monitoring Project: Violence on Saturday Mornings - 0 views

This website gave a lot of examples of violent children's media. It was really interesting and disturbing to see how much violence there is one TV shows aimed towards children. Violent scenes can cause children to become scared of the world, to act aggressively, or to desensitize them towards violence. Television really affect children, it socializes them in huge ways, especially since on average children watch 15,000 hours of television per year, while they only spend 900 hours in school.

Kids: to TV or not TV - 0 views

I felt that this article is very accurate in today's society. I think this because it talks about how everyone in the media is perfect, no one has birthmarks, scars or burns. Professor Gus McGrouther feels that there should be more fictional characters with deformities in the media. I agree with him in that there should be heroes and "smart people" in the media that are stereotyped as "misfits".

This article talked about the negative effects of television; it seemed very biased and gave negative examples of children viewing extreme amounts of television. Just like everything; if it is used in the wrong way or too much it can become a bad thing.

Appearance: Discrimination or legitimate qualification? - 0 views

This article has been very beneficial to me in my research. I liked this website a lot because it showed me a different side of prejudicing against physical appearance. This article was focusing more on prejudices in the workplace and how these can effect whether or not people will get hired and a persons salary. This article also talked about both sides of the "prejudice battle" and how some prejudices have been taken to court and won, while others lost.

Gender Roles - 2 views

This web site was very useful because it provided the information in thorough detail with opinions as well as facts. The information was easily accessible, as well as clear to follow and understand. Gender roles are seen as a part of life and this web site describes and explains how these stereotypes aren`t followed by everyone and they should not have to.

gangs and macho - 0 views

I agree with the concepts that this website talks about. In our society today it is consitered cool to be in a gang, or to be a tough "gangster" The media potrays a slightly glamourous life that comes along with being in a gang which may be why so many are drawn towards joining one. I agree that male gender roles are part of what makes gangs so dangerous.

Socialization of Disney - 0 views

I agree with many of the Points talked about on this website including that by showing the female characters as beautiful caretakers and often needing to be saved by the prince this gives a strong impression to girls about gender roles. It is the same with boys who see male characters as being strong, masculine and aggressive portraying more negative stereotypes.

Disney Princess - 0 views

This website discusses how the Disney Princess movies reinforce gender roles for young children and also how watching these characters is a way of socialization. I agree that disney movies are a large part of socialization for kids, but there are other more important socialization influences in a child's life.

This website informs the reader that bullies have been a problem for a long time rather than just being a new issue that has recently popped up. It also tells the different forms in which bullying can be expressed in. As well, it has a real interesting section on the information that a researcher named Barone has gathered, and what he thinks about it.
