On the global scale, Malaysia was ranked 11th out of 60 countries, with four of the top five slots going to Scandinavian countries, with Sweden and Norway taking the top two spots and Malaysia outperforming Singapore, Belgium, Germany, Latvia and Switzerland - countries which took the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th spots respectively.

“The Union’s research shows that many of the Free Schools already opened, and those due to open later this year, will have a negative impact on existing local schools. “In many cases the Government is allowing Free Schools to open regardless of the concerns raised by local authorities, heads, governors and parents. Local Authorities are best placed to assess whether the opening of a Free School, or indeed any school, is necessary. In many cases Free Schools are opening in areas where there are already surplus school places and in others, the new free school will create surplus places leading to unnecessary competition and schools with many places unfilled.

CBR programmes are government-initiated, centre-based programmes at the community level aimed to provide education that emphasises therapy and rehabilitation to children with learning disabilities (Kuno, 2007). CBR programmes are quite detached from the mainstream school system. However, in practice, the division between both provisions is less definite, and students who should benefit from them become victims of bureaucratic procedures (Adnan & Hafiz, 2001).

Just chew on that for a moment. Given this reality, Pasi Sahlberg -- the author of Finnish Lessons -- concludes that special education “is nothing special anymore for students.” (Sahlberg, 2011) When students witness many of their classmates receiving extra support, special education loses its stigma. It’s not just the children who think differently about it. Teachers are more comfortable with the idea of students receiving extra help when they need it.

Oftentimes, these were adults without formal teacher-training. Furthermore, they were paid about half as much as classroom teachers. These two factors seemed to make it difficult for teachers and paraprofessionals to see eye-to-eye and collaborate. Although they were both expected to care for the students in the class, one adult had more professional authority than the other.

It follows survivors of Ireland's Magdalene Asylums, and the abuse they endured there, working long hours for no pay, forcibly separated from their children, some being beaten and molested by nuns and priests. The idea that such places existed in our lifetime (the last asylum closed in 1996) is mind boggling, and these women still have not seen justice.

I really suggest "Under Our Skin." It's a documentary that shows the struggle of Chronic Lyme disease patients and how so many people are going untreated. As a Chronic Lyme disease patient myself, I must say that everything being documented in this film is completely accurate. I would't say this unless I was absolutely confident. I know many documentaries tend to be biased, but this one says it like it is. I promise you won't be disappointed.
