More seriously, I've moved my feeds to collected.info. I have liked it so far; I'll even admit that it's easier on the eye than Google Reader.

Not necessarily a library video, but an interesting idea.  By encouraging the audience to approach information the way they approach food (i.e. by emphasizing quality over quantity, as it's impossible to eat all the food), the focus of our information world goes from "information overload" to "information consumption." 

A somewhat limited article about "ethnic cleansing" on the Internet. What I can agree with is the prospect of countries making their own versions of popular websites such as Youtube, the larger question that has been debated since the beginning of the Internet is who should decide about material outside the borders of a country that it may still try to control.

This is absolutely amazing. The action starts around 4:45 but you've gotta watch till the end.

A video that explains some concepts about open access; some concepts are a little too idealized, some research involving material that is patented or financed by commercial interests may not be free. However, some other points, such as the extreme cost of journals, or that patrons may not know if materials are suitable until they've already paid for them is spot on.

An interesting but more or less "Feel Good" talk about how books can change a person's life.

A taped college lecture about how large scale social media has connected millions of people, but many of the promises of the early Internet have been lost, such as people owning their own identities and websites.

Harvard also had an Oxford style debate about the future or purpose of libraries. While interesting it didn't really cover anything new:

I was going test out diigo with some Unprofessional Development, but, honestly, the idea of being brave enough fail ambitiously is actually rather inspiring. So, uh, the art of Sparky's - what we should all aspire to sometimes?

Ambitiously failing is better than cautiously succeeding, as long as it doesn't involve mad scientist stuff.

Yay for open access! CBC Global Header Navigation Andraka used free online science papers to invent an award-winning pancreatic cancer testing procedure. (YouTube / Channel Intel) Fifteen-year-old Jack Andraka took home top science fair honours this year for the development of a cancer-testing method found to be 168 times faster, 26,000 times cheaper and 400 times more sensitive than the current gold-medal standard.

Interesting.  I wonder what an open-source textbook will be like, or what can be done with it.  Also, the article seems to assume that the information in the textbooks is under the same license.
