part book recommendation service and part social network for young readers. Hosted by Scholastic, You Are What You Read is place where kids can share information about their favorite books. After creating a simple profile You Are What You Read asks participants to name the five books that mean the most to them. Members of the network can then see who else likes the same books and discover other books that might also interest them. You Are What You Read offers some excellent resources that you and your students can access without joining and creating a profile. You Are What You Read has a lengthy list of famous people like Kevin Durant, Tony Hawk, and Ellen DeGeneres who have listed their favorite age-appropriate books. Take a look at the book page for The Giving Tree which Kevin Durant listed as one of his favorites. The Book Links feature on You Are What You Read offers webs of books that are related to each other. For example, if you enter the title Green Eggs and Ham a web of books that are likely to interest students is generated. Click on any book in the new web to generate yet another web of related titles.

An online math worksheet generator that allows you to customize sheets. 

 Sweet Search is a search engine that searches only the sites that have been reviewed and approved by a team of librarians, teachers, and research experts. In all there are 35,000 websites that have been reviewed and approved by Sweet Search. In addition to the general search engine, Sweet Search offers five niche search engines. The niche search engines are for Social Studies, Biographies, SweetSites (organized by grade and subject area), School Librarians, and Sweet Search 4 Me (for elementary school students). "Joliprint is a free service that converts online articles into a printer-friendly, reader-friendly format. The easiest way to use Joliprint is to add their bookmarklet to your browser's toolbar. Once installed click the Joliprint bookmarklet whenever you're reading an article that you want to print and Joliprint will generate a PDF of that article without the sidebar content from that blog or website. If you don't want to install the Joliprint bookmarklet you can simply copy a url and paste it into the conversion box on Joliprint. "

students create musical journeys out of street layouts. Roadside elements act as instruments and cars are the players. Students can create whole islands of music by creating a street layout, adding objects that generate different sounds and adding cars to play the music. Each object has an object panel where students can adjust the sound, volume or clone the object. Students can determine when a sound will be played based on the ground lighting up when the car passes. Junctions change the course of passing cars or can "loop" a sound. It is easy for students to get started, they just click "Create a new island" and away they go. Students can name their island anything and save to return to it later. No need for registration, the Internet browser they are using just needs to have cookies enabled (this is a bit of a problem for shared classroom computers with a single account).

This lesson is about insects rather than parasites, but it teaches students about some insect parasites (e.g., mosquitoes and lice) as well as about insects in general. Students will see pictures of insects that bite and sting, and others of insects that don't bother people. They will classify insects into "likeable" and "not-so-likeable" categories and draw pictures of insects that people like and don't like.

"PowToon would be a great addition to the design thinking routine. Students can use PowToon to share their ideas or to "prototype" an idea. Students can create videos to show math processes, explanations of complex concepts, review new learning, teach others, explain processes, tell stories, or present research. The possibilities are really endless and students will come up with hundreds of other creative uses. Teachers can use PowToon to create animations for students. This is a great way to present new information or ideas for discussion. Tips: The PowToon Interactive Tour and How to Create series are very helpful to watch prior to creating your first animations."

A tool to randomly pick names to answer questions, or to randomly assign spelling words, etc. It does have sound effects, so be prepared. The Fruit Machine works like a slot machine, and the Typewriter has all of the letters (sounding like an old-fashioned typewriter) until the student's name is created. The Typewriter is louder and noisier....
