Lesson study is a professional development strategy that developed in Japan. Teachers study a lesson by collaboratively researching a topic and writing a research lesson. 

An organization that promotes higher education opportunities for first-generation and other under-served college-bound students. A variety of initiatives and resources have been developed to achieve this goal, including the College-Bound Coalition, The College Access & Opportunity Guide; CSO College Center online clearinghouse of college programs and admissions information and the College Counseling Outreach Initiative

""Describe your preparation for and participation during discussion: note-taking, responding to e-mailed discussion questions and prompts, office hours, addressing or raising questions during discussion. How would you like your own participation to change, develop, or continue?"" I encounter a version of this "you didn't inform us" from students and teachers who can't find items in the top two topic blocks of their community. I don't know how to redesign the community to achieve more clarity. Maybe the answer lies in having "open office hours online" to offer digestible (i.e., not too long) explicit orientations to the community.

Interesting approach by PARCC on through-course assessments for K-12 students with particular significance for HS students as they assess how college ready they are, how they are growing content and skills to analyze, understand the content and apply, and how through-course assessments drive interventions, classroom practice, and support needed for teachers to understand CCSS and help their students to achieve them. Really like logic model on p 17. How does this, should this, could this affect MCNC's epi modeling? I-Lab practicum?

EducationWorks provides support for economically disadvantaged communities in Philadelphia, Chester, PA; and Camden and Trenton, NJ. Goal is to provide educational programs and services that enrich the lives of children, youth and families who have obstacles that hinder student achievement.

Southern Regional Board works with 16 member states to improve public pre-K-12 and higher education. The organization works directly with state leaders, schools and educators to improve teaching, learning and student achievement.

The Education Trust promotes high academic achievement for all students, from pre-K through college, with a focus on the underserved. The organization is involved at all levels, from working alongside students, parents, educators and local community leaders throughout the country, through participating in national policy debates.

The National Staff Development Council is now known as Learning Forward. This organization believes not just in professional development, but also in educators' "effective professional learning" as the bridge to student achievement.

From Oregon's state website, an outline of Governor Kitzhaber's recent plan to establish the Oregon Education Investment Board (OEIB), where there were previously 2 separate bodies (one for k-12 and one for postsecondary). This focus on a "zero-to-20 system," intends to help the Governor meet his goal of "all Oregonians earn[ing] a high school diploma...prepared for college and work, and...80% of students achieve at least two years of post-secondary education or training."

Washington, DC-based national policy and advocacy organization that works to improve national and federal policy so that all students can achieve at high academic levels and graduate from high school ready for success in college, work, and citizenship in the twenty-first century.

From the Overview, "Cal-PASS is an initiative that collects, analyzes and shares student data in order to track performance and improve success from elementary school through university."

One Jam participant noted that data from Cal-PASS was useful in helping them gauge their students' success post-graduation.
