Unmarried America http://www.unmarriedamerica.org/ Unmarried America is a website to be used as a source for information about single people throughout America. The website contains an online library containing pages of material containing information about unmarried and single people in the United States and in other countries. The website is intended for the many different types of people in the United States that are unmarried, whether they are single, divorced, widowed, parent, or childless. I feel this website is more of an advocacy type of website promoting the views of Spectrum Institute and their views of unmarried Americans and how laws and policies are geared more toward "traditional families". Spectrum Institute is a nonprofit corporation based out of Glendale, California that is involved with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for charitable organizations. When going into the "What's New" there are up to date stories from March 2011 and before, but when looking through the rest of the website most things are prior to 2007. This website brings to the surface that unmarried people are now becoming the majority in the United States and the government and businesses need take this into consideration when creating policies, benefit packages, and tax laws.

9 to 5 was established in 1973 by a group of working women out of Boston, Massachusetts. They are working to bring working women's issues to the surface so that the public can be aware of them and can help to make more acceptable policies that benefit the working women. Today's women want to be self sufficient and want to be able to support their family or contribute to supporting their family and 9 to 5 wants to help bring those policies into effect. They also want to eliminate workplace discrimination and along with educating people about their legal rights and monitoring enforcement agencies, they also have a job hotline available for people to call to offer information legal rights, strategies, and ways to get involved.
The website is geared toward the public to help people become more informed of the problems that our working women face today. This website is also geared toward our public officials so that they have access to the problems that working women face in America so that they can see the high priority it is for the working woman to have equal pay and family friendly policies available for them and all employees. They provide information on current Acts going before our state and federal governments so that people can contact their representatives in support of the Act in hopes that they will support it as well.
I found this website easy to maneuver and acquire important information on issues that are going on in the United States today. This semester we have been reading about issues that the working families in the United States are dealing with and discussing options of policies to make a better work/family balance in our lives. Looking at this website I learned that the Healthy Families Act is introduced to Congress this month and members of the National Association of Working Women are in Washington D.C. to speak to senators and representatives. This bill would allow employees of a workplace with 15 or more employees to earn up to 7 paid sick days per year to use to take time off if the employee is sick, to care for a sick family member, or to go to a doctor's visit. It's nice to see that this bill is coming up in Congress after we have been talking about the need for a change in policy this semester. This is just one example of some of the issues and possible solutions that are included in the website.
