Sierra Wireless Mercury 885 Unlocked Aircard - 2 views

So after a lot of research, this Aircard seems to be the best bet in terms of units that can be tested with Frontline SMS in the US and work in Africa. There are phones that work in the US (which are listed on the Downloads / Requirements page on Frontline), but most of the phones that are on the approved list and are shown to actually work are mostly used in Europe, Asia, and Africa. There are a number of threads, but here are two describing issues and then the end solution: http://frontlinesms.ning.com/forum/topics/where-to-buy-gsm-modem-that?id=2052630:Topic:17627&page=2#comments http://frontlinesms.ning.com/forum/topics/washington-dc-based?commentId=2052630:Comment:24367 I'm going to put in an order so we have it for testing next week.

this is a cool project a group found famiclones( basically nintendo on a chip), and decided to use them for education they could be found for about 10 bux. probably more here, i know makezine sells them in the shop. the funny thing is these machines have a dos/windows type os on them already, pretty amazing for a 6502 ( i've also seen twitter running on a apple 2 or internet on a c64). check this out if you are interested in games or educational games, i see they are also looking for interns.
