this is something i came upon while working on my project, this orchestra uses pure data, msi wind netbooks, linux, and wiimotes. Their website has more info. you can download the custom linux distro, and pure data objects there. there is a link to their site in the article but here it is again: http://l2ork.music.vt.edu/main/

This is an interesting piece that crosses from musical instrument to art piece. The rules given to the piece give it a distinct sound, abilities and difficulty, but make it truly unique.

this site has lots of short documentaries/articles about designers, music, film, and tech. there are even videos about nyc resistor ( a hacker space in brooklyn) and one that covers diana eng and Eyebeam( a really cool space, would be a dream to work in, if you haven't gone you should go just to have a look around).

Victor Gama creates his own instruments and performs live with a strong visual element (instrument and projections included). Definitely check out the "Instrmts 4 Da Museum" under the Projects section. He's performing at Brown and at Carnegie Hall with the Kronos Quartet in early March for those interested.

Danish sound/installation artist. I heard of him because of his "4 Rooms" project which was a recording/playback experiment in 4 deserted rooms in Chernobyl, Ukraine. http://www.fonik.dk/works/4rooms.html Emergence indeed.
