one of the most controversial topics we've ever written about is the concept of different learning styles. Whenever this particular topic has come up, there are folks who write to us saying they appreciate the reminder that every student learns differently, while many others write telling us how stupid we are for even thinking of supporting the idea that there are different types of learners.

Talking Cutie is a fun free iPad app that lets you add voices to images. Simply take a photograph, and then record up to 60 seconds of narration over the top. You can then add a talking face to the object - choosing from a wide range of different features. This would have lots of uses in the classroom. Children could add a short description of an artefact in history, historical characters, famous people, they could describe different animals and plants in science. This would be great for foreign language work, with the children speaking short phrases in the target language. The app changes the voice, so children who hate hearing themselves shouldn't have a problem when the finished video is played back, as it doesn't sound like them.

Google Tour Builder allows users to tell stories using Google maps, images, videos, and text. It is a fantastic tool for students to use to show what they know about different topics. Maybe students are summarizing the chapters of a book and each placemark represents a different chapter. Or perhaps students create a tour to share summaries of current events happening around the world.

Assessments are a part of every classroom, regardless of subject matter or grade level. They come in all shapes and sizes, and they can be used for a number of reasons. Sometimes, the differences between the types of assessments can be subtle. The Stapleless Book is a web tool provided by ReadWriteThink and enables students to create short printed books of approximately 6 to 8 pages. The process is dead simple. Students open up Staples Book tool, type in a title for their book and proceed to constructing their pages. For each page they have the option to choose from different layouts. If you've ever tried to print a Google Sheet, you may have realized that it isn't the best experience in the world. The process isn't exactly customizable and sometimes it can be spread over several different pages, even if it would fit nicely on one.

Throughout my different experiences working with teachers integrating technology in their classrooms I noticed that several of them still do not know about the powerful features that YouTube has. The fad that YouTube is a mere video hosting platform is still pervasive among many while, in fact, most if not all of the features provided by premium video websites are also found in YouTube and for free.
