    Before there was facebook, there was my space. My space is the original social networking site. Of particular interest to artists and musicians is the fact that you can set up a profile, upload vidoes, pictures and music, get your own web address, send bulletins out to your contacts and get access to blogs, instant messaging (IM), and forums. My Space provides an avenue for artists and musicians to network, stay connected to what is happening, and advertise and market themselves directly to their audiences. CH

    This is not art is an annual festival which happens in Newcastle, NSW. It bills itself as an "independent, emerging and experiemental arts festival". 'This is not art' actually encompasses several smaller festivals which take place under its banner. The festival's aims are to allow artists to "meet and collaborate, share ideas, passions and skills, and showcase...work". Artists can respond to the calls for proposals if they would like to exhibit or perform, or they can also get involved through volunteering. CH

    The next Wave Festival happens every two years (next one in 2010) and is aimed at helping new and youth artists get their work out into the community. It aims to provide a platform to encourage innovative and engaging artworks and performances across a range of genres and provide not only stage space but also support and guidance to those in the industry. Once on the page, also click on "Our Programs" to read about 'Kickstart' which happens in non festival years and helps artists to develop their works in the lead up to the next festival.
