The Abbostsford convent is an artistic community hub in Abbostsford Melbourne. It provides space for "artists, arts practitioners, and arts and creative organisations". Of particular interest to artists and musicians is the fact that you can set up a profile, upload vidoes, pictures and music, get your own web address, send bulletins out to your contacts and get access to blogs, instant messaging (IM), and forums. My Space provides an avenue for artists and musicians to network, stay connected to what is happening, and advertise and market themselves directly to their audiences. CH

This is not art is an annual festival which happens in Newcastle, NSW. It bills itself as an "independent, emerging and experiemental arts festival". 'This is not art' actually encompasses several smaller festivals which take place under its banner. The festival's aims are to allow artists to "meet and collaborate, share ideas, passions and skills, and showcase...work". Artists can respond to the calls for proposals if they would like to exhibit or perform, or they can also get involved through volunteering. CH

You have options to do the following: start your own free art collection, share it or blog it, download, buy, and see the artist gallery profile. Artworks cna also be rated and the front page is constantly changing to feature new artworks. CH

The next Wave Festival happens every two years (next one in 2010) and is aimed at helping new and youth artists get their work out into the community. It aims to provide a platform to encourage innovative and engaging artworks and performances across a range of genres and provide not only stage space but also support and guidance to those in the industry. Once on the page, also click on "Our Programs" to read about 'Kickstart' which happens in non festival years and helps artists to develop their works in the lead up to the next festival.

To have your gig listed in this guide you need to have the info submitted before noon on Monday for the week of your gig. NEXT and BANG are two nights held in the city and are combined on public holidays to form one night called PLASTIC. ANTI is a night held in Ringwood in the Eastern suburbs and BADA BING is in Frankston. All these events are held in venues and any band can apply to play these gigs.

Mutiny has been operating in Queensland for a while but only recently expanded to Victoria and so is in the early stages of construction. There is also a monthly night held at Vadette nightclub where local bands perform.

he Muso Network is a voluntary advisory and management group of young people whose primary role is to organise music-related events and services for young people on behalf of the City of Greater Dandenong. Its secondary role is to provide an informal 'life and vocational skills' training ground for young people where they can learn a whole range of skills whilst enjoying something they love - music!
