  •
"This book is the first of its kind to guide final-year medical undergraduates in performing self-assessment in examination-style modified essay questions. It will also be useful for junior residents to evaluate their own knowledge and approaches in internal medicine, as well as senior doctors in providing inspiration and ideas for setting examination questions."

"Students identify the need for strong positive role models in their learning environment, and for effective evaluation of the professionalism of students and teachers. Medical school leaders must facilitate development of these components within the MD education and faculty development programs as well as in clinical milieus where student learning occurs."

A Three-year Study of Lecture Multimedia Utilization in the Medical Curriculum: Associa... - 2 views

  •
"In conclusion, a relatively small percentage of students use multimedia (audio and video) that are provided as a duplication of lectures in the basic sciences. The distribution of frequency of access of both video and audio files was consistent across the various courses offered in the first two years of medical school. There were significant correlations in the frequencies with which individual students viewed videos of lectures from course-to-course. Finally, there was a trend for an inverse association between the frequencies with which students viewed lectures and the grades they received in the course. This is an important observation that requires further investigation since it may be indicative of a maladaptive learning strategy for some students. It also does not exclude the possibility that additional computer-aided resources may be detrimental to some students. "

"Telecommunication can successfully enhance access to simulation-based instruction. In this study, a Web interface downgraded the quality of student-faculty communication. Future investigation is needed to better understand the impact of such an effect on the learning process and to reduce barriers that impede implementation of technology-facilitated supervision."

25-Year summary of US malpractice claims for diagnostic errors 1986-2010: an analysis f... - 0 views

  •
" Among malpractice claims, diagnostic errors appear to be the most common, most costly and most dangerous of medical mistakes. We found roughly equal numbers of lethal and non-lethal errors in our analysis, suggesting that the public health burden of diagnostic errors could be twice that previously estimated. Healthcare stakeholders should consider diagnostic safety a critical health policy issue. "

Educational Strategies to Promote Clinical Diagnostic Reasoning - NEJM - 0 views

  •
"linical teachers differ from clinicians in a fundamental way. They must simultaneously foster high-quality patient care and assess the clinical skills and reasoning of learners in order to promote their progress toward independence in the clinical setting.1 Clinical teachers must diagnose both the patient's clinical problem and the learner's ability and skill."

Developing a peer assessment of lecturing instrument - 0 views

"Peer assessment of teaching can improve the quality of instruction and contribute to summative evaluation of teaching effectiveness integral to high-stakes decision making. There is, however, a paucity of validated, criterion-based peer assessment instruments. The authors describe development and pilot testing of one such instrument and share lessons learned"

"Sharable free cases created by any author from any institution at any time. Simple non-linear navigation while authoring or learning. Traditional case components such as history (hx), physical examination (pe), etc. are clickable tabs. Flexible searches are created by authors. More keywords for less advanced learners, fewer keywords for more advanced learners Learner-built medical record created on the fly. Review is easy. Immediate feedback is provided by comparing the learner-assigned value with the author's value. Delayed feedback is provided during a final review and the summary. Sortable diagnoses forming a differential are created by the author and learner and compared. Non-linear navigation includes a "Tx" tab so problems can be treated while other data is gathered."
