Life in College Matters for Life After College - 1 views

  •
"When it comes to being engaged at work and experiencing high well-being after graduation, a new Gallup-Purdue University study of college graduates shows that the type of institution they attended matters less than what they experienced there. Yet, just 3% of all the graduates studied had the types of experiences in college that Gallup finds strongly relate to great jobs and great lives afterward."

Free mind mapping (and related types) software - Wikit - 4 views

  •
Mind-mapping.org has a good capability for selecting software by map type and operating system (click on the 'Refine software list' tab at the top right of its web page), and shows the price. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow you to filter on price or choose to see only the free ones. This article is therefore a quick list to current software that is free or has a free option. It excludes applications that have a time limit on their operation, for example, free trial software or web applications.

Mental workload as a key fa... [Adv Health Sci Educ Theory Pract. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
"The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept of mental workload as a key determinant of the type of cognitive processing used by clinicians. Published research appears to be consistent with 'schemata' based cognition as the principle mode of working for those engaged in complex tasks under time pressure. Although conscious processing of factual data is also used, it may be the primary mode of cognition only in situations where time pressure is not a factor. "

The effectiveness of case-based learning in health... [Med Teach. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
"Overwhelmingly, students enjoy CBL and think that it enhances their learning. The empirical data taken as a whole are inconclusive as to the effects on learning compared with other types of activity. Teachers enjoy CBL, partly because it engages, and is perceived to motivate, students. CBL seems to foster learning in small groups though whether this is the case delivery or the group learning effect is unclear."

Journal of Participatory Medicine (JoPM) | New, Peer-Reviewed, Open-Access - 1 views

  •
Participatory medicine will owe part of its success to the technologies that have the potential to remove treatment, symptom management, administrative, and communications burdens from individuals and clinicians while maintaining the critical interpersonal interactions between them. Out of the steady stream of new devices, programs, gadgets, and applications, which will make a difference in the health and lives of patients? We hope to build the Journal as a resource for critical reviews of technologies that support and facilitate participatory medicine. We realize it will be no small undertaking to put together a process that will allow for the review of a substantial number of technologies over time, reflecting the experience of different types of users.

Toward the Construct Definition of Positive Deviance - 0 views

  •
In this article, the authors develop a definition of positive deviance, a foundational construct in positive organizational scholarship. They offer a normative definition of positive deviance: intentional behaviors that depart from the norms of a referent group in honorable ways. The authors contrast this normative perspective on deviance with statistical, supraconformity, and reactive perspectives on deviance. They also develop research propositions that differentiate positive deviance from related prosocial types of behaviors, including organizational citizenship, whistle-blowing, corporate social responsibility, and creativity/innovation. Finally, the authors offer some initial ideas on how to operationalize positive deviance.
