This is a research from the 1970s and 1980s on the characteristics of effective elementary school teachers highlighted the importance of a strong academic focus, explicit instruction, and high levels of pupils on task. Extending this earlier research, recent large-scale studies on effective teachers of reading have highlighted the importance of motivating and balanced instruction, the teaching of strategies as well as skills, the encouragement of higher-level thinking, and the use of coaching as children are reading and writing. This article outlines why everyone needs to give Common Core a chance. The author points out that Americans have one of the best education system when it comes to ideas, but we have trouble following the plans out. Students really learn best not from drill and practice but by applying the information to real world problems. That knowing the procedure to working a long division problem isn't the same as the application of long division. By teaching problems with a real world concept the math becomes more concrete.

This artifact is an AVID student handout that explains the Cornell Note Taking Summary Template. It describes step by step how to write a complete summary of your Cornell Notes. Being able to complete a summary will help the students reflect on the information they just acquired and make the connections necessary for understanding the material.

Chapter 6 of this book by Pérsida Himmele and William Himmele focuses on Total Participation Techniques that move. Of particular interest to my data team is the section of this chapter on Bounce Cards. This strategy can help all students feel confident and comfortable participating in a group discussion. I think it can be especially helpful to world language teachers looking to encourage students to discuss academic topics in the target language. (Week 9)

Slideshows teaching these skills with built in activities for students. Slideshows are in English, but students will need to understand the skill first before they can transfer it to the target language. Teachers can provide French examples to supplement the slideshows.

This book is a guide to help young girls get a better understanding of the changes that their bodies are going through. Girls get a straight forward explanation of issues they will encounter in a language that makes it easier for them to grasp.

Week 8: This book is the updated version Autodesk Inventor 2015. In chapter 3: Creating and Editing Sketched features, helps explain how to edit sketches that have already been made. I know my students are always having issues with this and end up creating a lot of extra sketches that are not needed and make the sketch messy. Reading this will help reduce the amount of unnecessary sketches and could help improve the efficiency of how a part is made.

This site contains information and links to circuit challenges. A good tool for additional research for students or further exploration. This can also be a part of a WebQuest activity or simply used the challenge at the bottom of the page for part of a homework/classwork assignment.

Week 7: This book maybe outdated for some versions of Inventor, however, Chapter 2: Sketching, Constraining, and Dimensioning, is a great read for students and teachers that are having issues with the different geometric constraints. It shows all the symbols, with descriptions of what they are, for the constrains and how to use them. It can also give teachers a better understanding on how to teach the different constraints.

A website which provides the terminology used in circuits but appropriate for students. This page in particular could become part of a scavenger hunt or WebQuest activity. It has some use as a stand alone resource as well.
