Economic crises, Bin Laden, soldiers in Iraq, Iran war and 2012 elections came across many online articles discussing each of these issues with contradicting views, ddnt want to spam your emails by tagging each one
I'm not quite sure what exactly you're referring to, but I don't see how our "wagging the dog" metaphor applies to President Obama. He's desperately trying to quell the Iran hype and has actually been criticized by GOP leaders for not agreeing to take military action against Iran. Instead, he has pledged to pursue economic sanctions and diplomatic efforts. Here's a recent quote from him: "If some of these folks think that it's time to launch a war, they should say so, and they should explain to the American people exactly why they would do that and what the consequences would be."
I vote for a 10' debate around this tomorrow in class! Let's hope we'll have time for this, as I'm most of times late on my schedule :-/ In the meanwhile, interesting topic, & Brittany, interesting quote you have there!
Conspiracy theories are always present and personally I think opposing someone is sometimes easier than supporting him/her... I'm in for the debate tomorrow :)
There is a fine line between being critical and being a conspiracy theorist.
To avoid falling in the conspiracy trap, there are some questions that you need to ask yourself: - What is the local/regional/international context in which EVENT X occurred? - What other unfortunate event (EVENT Y), occurring at the same time, could be covered through spreading the EVENT X rumor? - Who are the parties involved in EVENTS X & Y? - Who would benefit and who would be harmed from spreading the EVENT X rumor? - Are the motives strong enough to fabricate something as significant as EVENT X? - In whose pockets was the money flowing before the EVENT X rumor? And after EVENT X?
