The Place Value Game - 2 views

  •
The goal of the Place Value Game is to create the largest possible number from the digits the computer gives you. Unfortunately, the computer will give you each digit one at a time and you won't know what the next number will be. You are not allowed to rearrange any of the digits you have already placed, so think carefully before you lock a number in place! Good luck!

Beyond simple math and grouping (like "(x+2)(x-4)"), there are some functions you can use as well. Look below to see them all. They are mostly standard functions written as you might expect. You can also use "pi" and "e" as their respective constants.

A naths game to learn about fractions and percentages - 1 views

  •
The game aims to help children associate fractions with percentages. A cartoon Santa Clause introduces a snow scene with a group of identical parcels that contain either a fraction or a percentage. It is operated using the mouse, and the goal is to pair up matches, for example 1/3 and 33%, which pop out of the boxes. There are no instructions, but the game would be quite intuitive to children, though perhaps not to less inquisitive adults.

New York Yankees Odds to Win the World Series - 1 views

  •
Very interesting. Remember that to convert a:b odds (against, which is what the folks laying the bets will give) to probabiilty you take p=b/(a+b). This site lists the Yankees as 2:1 to win the American League, so if you think the probability is greater than 1/3 you should take the bet (theoretically speaking; please obey all applicable laws!). The Red Sox are 7:4, giving p=4/11.
