Profound Medical Inc, a MaRS client hopes to improve quality of life for men with prostate cancer by developing a faster, more precise treatment aimed at reducing side effects. Profound Medical won the $200,000 Premier's Catalyst Award for a start-up company with the best innovation. Avenir Medical Inc, a MaRS Client was named Ontario's Next Top Entrepreneur at the conference of the Ontario Centres of Excellence.

Premier Dalton McGuinty designed the trade mission to Israel in part as a means of understanding Israel's success in nurturing innovation and attracting venture capital. Of 38 companies and organizations taking part in Ontario's six-day life sciences trade mission to Israel, only two are from Ottawa, and only one is a local business. MaRS Innovation, an agency devoted to commercializing research from 14 Toronto academic institutions, has strengthened linkages in Toronto.

The Premier's Innovation Awards was hosted by the Ontario Centre of Excellence (OCE) in partnership with MaRS. The award is part of Ontario's Innovation Agenda to invests $200,000 to $5 million in the provinces top innovators to help advance their cutting-edge research and development, while boosting global competitiveness and creating more high-skilled jobs.

McGarry and Harkness from Corss Media NYC will stage the inaugural Cross Media Toronto event on July 21 in partnership with Toronto's MaRS Center and Norman Jewison's Canadian Film Center.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., a maker of scientific instruments and related technologies, has paid $260 million in cash to acquire Fermentas International Inc., an Ontario, Canada-based maker and distributor of enzymes, kits and reagents for molecular and cellular biology research.

Vincent Cheung, founder of Shape Collage and a MaRS client is a recipient of the: Advancing Canadian Entrepreneur (ACE) 2010 National Student Champion, Richard Ivey School of Business Competition and the MaRS Upstart competition.

EndLoop Studios, Five Mobile Inc. and NuLayer Inc. are three Toronto tech companies at hub of iPad app revolution. According to Krista Jones, MaRS Discovery District ICT Practice Lead, says "Toronto is an app hub because we have deep roots in both the creative and design industries, and the technical industries."

Cognition LLP, a MaRS Tenants, is offering free legal consultations to entrepreneurs.

The Sustainable Cities Challenge took place on May 18th, 2010 at the Royal York Hotel which featured a panel discussion from industry experts as well as a keynote speech by Peter Robinson, CEO of the David Suzuki Foundation. Tom Rand, MaRS Cleantech Practice Lead was amongst the panelists.

Polar Mobile, Jigsee, MMB Research and Seragon are four MaRS Clients that were listed as part of the top 10 Canadian mobile and wireless companies to watch for.

Ten people and businesses have been selected as the 2010 winners of Ontario's Premier's Innovation Awards. For the Summit Awards, the sponsoring institutions for the winners include MaRS Discovery District, The Hospital for Sick Children, and The Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital.

Skymeter Corporation, a MaRS Client, recently won the top prize for innovation at the prestigious Intertraffic Innovation Awards in Amsterdam.
