The Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs presented its 15th annual awards on April 2, 2011, including one to Vincent Cheung of Shape Collage. Shape Collage, a MaRS client, won Best Start-up for their web application that creates collages in shapes using digital photos.

Tomorrow, MaRS hosts our 2nd extended citizenship ceremony. Sixty New Canadians along with their family and friends will take their oath right here in the MaRS Auditorium. Interesting to hear from one of our own community, Dr. Rosalind Silverman, a postdoctoral fellow with TGH and UofT Medicine, who won first-ever Top 25 Canadian Immigrants awards. Ontario is supporting new clean energy technology and creating jobs as part of its Open Ontario Plan. Woodland Biofuels, a client of MaRS advisory services, was awarded $4M to build a plant that will efficiently produce cellulosic ethanol from renewable wastes.

Shape Collage was founded by University of Toronto PhD student Vincent Cheung. Cheung won the Ontario division of the Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship award. The company has racked up six figure revenue and plans to double in size over the next year.

MaRS cleantech client, NIMTech, is granted SDTC funding for their current project with GreenField Ethanol. This project looks at plant optimization to increase ethanol yields using their SonicGauge™ non-invasive measurement sensors in collaboration with ProSensus' multivariate statistical platform for batch manufacturing control.

MaRS Discovery District announced  substantial funding support from the Rockefeller Foundation and the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation will be made available for the Centre for Impact Investing, to be housed at MaRS.
