People use Bloust to keep up with friends & classmates, upload photos, find study partners, share links and videos, and learn more about their friends & classmates.

Teacher Vision provides free tools for educators, and the website is even divided by discipline. I looked over the Social Studies page as that is my interest. They have lesson plans, Power Pont's, and more.

I would agree that for colleges and adult learners it might be, but I'm not convinced that the same holds true for K12.

Learning has to occur in a community, eh? If that's true, THEN can we get twitter, skype, Flickr, youtube, Diigo, etc unblocked so we can take advantage of that community?

I have used Skype to read aloud to another classroom on the other side of the county.  I will be using it this year to connect to a class in Hawaii and will try to use it for reading, science and social studies.

Many of my posts and others have focused on applications for iPhones or the Android. I have found a good list of applications for students for the BlackBerry. I had a BlackBerry before I made the transition to Apple, and would of loved to been able to use some of these tools. The list includes planning tools, grade tracking, flashcard tools, and more!

A pretty decent resource for units of study on global warming, greenhouse gas emission, climate change, etc. Some interactivity and provides a solid foundation background for this topic of study. Age appropriateness could range from primary through HS.

Instead of vicariously learning from textbooks or Web research, my students get firsthand information from the people who actually live in the places they are studying.

This is not only good for Social Studies, but also VERY good for English. My how our language has devolved over the years. Read Madison's speeches, for example.
