Newton Public Schools Technology Newsletter - 6 views

  •
This is a new publication that Newton has come out with highlighting the use of technology and ways in which it is seeking to create 21st century learners. Is has some nice articles and some descriptions of how certain technology is used in the classroom. I thought it might be interesting for us to look at how another district is tackling the same issues we are.

great, short list of, mostly, web-based tools for writing/storytelling from a masscue2013 workshop. "For grades K-6, the Common Core requires that students use technology to produce and publish writing, while interacting and collaborating. As the students age, their level of independence increases. Each of the tools that I present to you today, allows for these 4 key actions."

Apple - Flitch Green Academy - 0 views

  •
Students at the UK public school Flitch Green Academy use iPad, Mac, and iPod touch to create unique learning experiences. The inspiration Flitch Green is a public elementary/middle school located just outside of London. Love the discussion of how the technology builds independence. One of the apps used on the ipad is Puppet Pals one that I use frequently in the classroom - although only on my personal device at this time :(

Khan Critiques: We Were Promised Jetpacks & Got Lectures - EdTech Researcher - Educatio... - 0 views

  • I do think it's incredibly important to engage this question of whether or not Khan Academy constitutes a revolution in math education, because it's a powerful case for asking one of the fundamental questions in education today: should we be using technology to do old things more efficiently, or to do new things? A lot of the fawning media coverage of Khan Academy doesn't necessarily advance this discussion
