"The goal of this event is to encourage teachers from all subject areas to teach students basic concepts about copyright during copyright Awareness Week. We hope that through this understanding, students will be more appreciative of the efforts of creative people and the protections the law affords them. Many people are avid users of copyrighted materials such as music, film, books, magazines, art and photographs, but they have little or no understanding about how these works are protected or why our forefathers felt copyright protections should be included in our constitution. We hope that you will enjoy learning about this important subject and that you will encourage other students, teachers and parents to engage in the study of copyright during copyright Awareness Week.
We are always looking for new ideas to share with other teachers and students. Please email us and let us know what your class studied during copyright Awareness Week. You may contact us with this information or any questions you might have regarding copyright Awareness Week at Contact the CSUSA Office. We hope your study leads you to a greater understanding and appreciation for creators and their creations. "

Fair use is one of the exceptions in copyright which allows use of copyrighted materials without obtaining permission as long as the use can be considered fair. There is a four-factor analysis which must be applied to each use to determine whether the use is fair. Each factor is given equal weight. The goal is to achieve a balance between the rights of the copyright holder with the rights of the public. Fair use is also technologically neutral so the same analysis may be applied to any medium.
"Communication scholars need access to copyrighted material, need to make unlicensed uses of them in order to do their research, and often-especially within the United States-have the legal right to do so. But all too often they find themselves thwarted.

Please note that search.creativecommons.org is not a search engine, but rather offers convenient access to search services provided by other independent organizations. CC has no control over the results that are returned. Do not assume that the results displayed in this search portal are under a CC license. You should always verify that the work is actually under a CC license by following the link. Since there is no registration to use a CC license, CC has no way to determine what has and hasn't been placed under the terms of a CC license. If you are in doubt you should contact the copyright holder directly, or try to contact the site where you found the content.

Brief Description: IThinkIcon is a search engine designed to simplify the process of finding high quality, free icons. We're constantly adding to our database of icons in multiple formats and sizes. We've tried to provide both ease of use and high functionality all in one for both the web designer/developer and for the personal user. A database of over 200,000 copyright-free, royalty free icons. Many are downloadable in different sizes. It was created with the website developer in mind, but it works for student projects also.
