Online timeline creator - this blogger also reviews Meograph which is categorized as a '4 dimensional' timeline tool. Definitely a category of tools that we should explore for many areas of instruction.
We can't forget that it is also critical for teachers to model the thinking within the tool - it helps for students to gain a better understanding of expectations. This practices also can reduce fear as well as provide empathy from the teacher as they are required to adhere to their own expectations.
The challenge, therefore, is for teachers to recognize the differences in these tools and not assume that one blog is the same as the next.
Even though this article specifically is discussing the use of smartphones, it fails to mention these are online tools...so in the world of 1:1 we could capture some of these pieces in our pilot.
“The Five C’s.” Collaborate, communicate, create and coordinate/curate
Blogging is one of the tools I believe we need to look at for the pilot and this post had a lot of great information for thinking about this process. I thought it was a good representation of how teachers reacted to blogging and the challenges they have to overcome.
More reasons students can/should blog! Note how other 'things' can be embedded into blogs. In this instance, you will see popplet, but you could embed other concept map tools like padlet, or voice/video sources as well to make it more multi-media.
Students definitely need to understand that their movements, accounts, and online behavior create an identity. As we arm our students with digital tools, are we also arming them with information on how to stay safe?
there’s a disparity between what principals expect from new hires and what teachers-in-training are learning.
Sixty-eight percent of teachers-in-training report they rely most heavily on field placements to learn about how to integrate technology into the classroom. They also watch their professors and take advice from peers.
This is an interesting article about new teachers entering the field and what principals are expecting they are learning and bringing to the workplace in terms of technology integration. Interestingly, when digital students are taught using 'old' methods, they are not much more prepared than veteran teachers to integrate technology....although they may be less fearful as they personally use many more digital tools.
This is a pretty good video that talks about what are 21st Century learners and what does that mean. I especially like the concept that we need teachers (adults) who know when to use the technology and when it isn't the best tool for the learning.
This Twitter tool could be very interesting in terms of helping teachers see all of the discussions in the hashtag and presenting them in a way others could as well. Definitely something to explore!
